About the Instructor :
Leolani Gallardo has over 25 years of experience in Polynesian dance, training and performing with the most prestigious teachers and troupes. After touring worldwide to perform and teach, she returned to her home city of Los Angeles, California, and finally opened her own Tahitian dance school, Te Aho Nui, in 2016. Leolani has a fun and powerful way of teaching that creates a positive learning atmosphere for all of her students to feel welcome.
The L. A. Bellydance Academy is a dance studio that offers dance and music education for all ages and all skill levels. Our professional staff focuses on providing students with an environment that creates wellness, self-expression, utilizing dance as a bridge to create the mind-body-soul connection. World arts and culture are foundations to our curriculum which begins in the Arab world providing extensive studies in the ancient art of bellydance and then extending to all corners of the globe with Persian dance, Flamenco dance, Polynesian dance and so much more. September 6, 2023 thank you for the class. I really want to learn the Tahitian dancing. However I walk on a PLATE with EIGHT screws in the back of my LEFT KNEE from where my knee was shattered in 2004; and my RIGHT FOOT 🦶 WAS CRUSHED and Right Ankle was broken in three places. What advice can I get from you on those issues ??? However yes I do walk I can glide a little but I do want to do the Tahitian dancing and I do drive. I will await your response to my questions. Thank you

Love it Leo! Not all dancers are good teachers, but you explained it so well! I also love how you also show the written Te Reo form of each step etc. Very informative, and I like your strictness on directions of feet, and closing of knees as Insee this with so many dancers, even advanced/pros. Only made it through the first 25 min and my hips just do not want to move like that 😂😂 any stretching recommendations to help with that?

It depends on how loose your hips are, and how well you can isolate. Stretching that promotes mobility and flexibility is key, as well as exercises to strengthen all the large muscle groups. If you’re a beginner and never done this before, of course it’s gonna take time for your body to create cell memory, but the more you do it the easier. People expect to Fa’arapu like a pro when they have never done this before...why professional dancers are trained since they where little.

I don't have a pareo can you show me how you got your pareos.

Just order online from alohahulasupply, or google half sized pareo/pareo. Most dancers uses rayon or a rayon blend as it moves easily. Cotton can be too stiff/heavy. You can also use a scarf. Jus make sure it’s not too thick/thin, and not too big as it’s gonna be a nightmare to tie if you have to fold it, and it gets too thick to show any movement.
