Are yall for real? She's not "eluding" to anything. She's SAYING IT out right.

@@SazzuHope ikr! all the men who reacted to it almost fully understand and comprehend the meaning even though it's supposed to be more relatable to women

she’s eating a pomegranate in the ending, which represents fertility and marriage. the juice is a bright blood red color which looks a lot like blood.

Her red handprint across her mouth and cheek also reminds me of the red handprint on the face to draw attention to missing and murdered indigenous women.

Okay so, small breakdown for you guys cause there’s a couple of meanings people pulled from it (and I love them)!: “You make me do too much labor”: There’s like two different meanings that can be pulled: 1. Labor: giving birth. You make me bear your children, make me give birth to your lineage 2. Labor: work. You make me do all the work and you do nothing. “So that he never lifts a finger” 1. So that he never hits me, physical abuse. I do it so he doesn’t hurt me 2. So that he doesn’t blame me. I.E.: point fingers to her 3. So he doesn’t find fault or flaw in her (pointing out things he deems wrong with her) 4. So that he doesn’t SA her “It’s not an act of love if you make her”: 1. SA. It’s not love if you make her do it and she doesn’t want to 2. Physical work. If she does it all and you do nothing then it’s not love, it’s a slave 3. It can also be arranged marriages. It’s not love if you make her marry you. 4. Having a daughter. Just because you had her doesn’t mean you love her Paris Paloma says that the song is about a woman escaping from a relationship (the escape takes place on the island). The island is like a metaphor for a domestic paradise that men enjoy and women curate to their partner for their relationship. The song was inspired by the book Circe written by Madeline Miller and the idea is that whether women are single or in a relationship they’re curating these lives by themselves. Paris recently put out their debut album titled Cacophony and I recommend it! But yeah, that’s what I remember. If you enjoyed this then a couple songs I recommend by her are: The Fruits The Warmth Hunter Last Woman on Earth (she wrote this a bit before the Man vs. Bear debate and a lot of people resonate it with that as well as she does and I really recommend it) As Good A Reason (highly recommend, if you like Labor then I think this is another one you’ll like) Other songs with similar vibes/meaning to Labour are: Burn Your Village by Kiki Rockwell Us and Pigs by Sofia Isella I’ve Had Enough by Melina KB

Never lifts a finger also refers to work. She does all the work around the house and waits on him hand and foot so that he never has to do anything for himself. Men used to get married just so they would have someone to take care of them and there home and some still do. Also the mindset of if a man's wife dies/leaves him and they had kids he needs to get remarried to have someone to take care of them comes from this. As if a father can't take care of his own children. Thanks for the comment BTW. I look for a comment explaining all the double and triple meanings in Labor every time I watch a reaction because it's really hard to catch everything, especially on your first listen. I almost always see this song in a new light after reading the discussion that happens under these comments.

I would add Same Old Energy by Kiki Rockwell, especially since the video for SOE leads directly into the video for BYV

"If we had a daughter, Id watch and could not save her" I spent years in an abusive marriage and after my daughter was born, I escaped with her. That line gets me every single time I hear it because I saved her from my fate.

Yes, it was a tiktok sound when it came out last year, there's another music video of this of other people's videos singing along to it as well. Oh and the fruit is a pomegranate, symbol of fertility, death and rebirth. Its a fruit refered to in a lot of greek myths as well.

Fabulous lord of the rings reference. Reminds me of Henry VIII. and pomegranates were the symbol of Kathrine of Aragon.

Literally. I've seen the men give huge reactions and be amazed by the little details like the setting or clever lines. Why did the women not catch on???

I love that someone else saw the LOTR parallel with Denethor stuffing his face on the tower of Gondor while the world burned. AND even before the obvious moment when she starts eating. I feel seen 😊

Thank you! I love this song. I can't add more than those below said. I relate so hard tho. I met my husband in the military, same job, same hours. After we rented a house, he'd come home and sit. Said "I worked all day I'm tired." and left everything to me to do, even tho I worked the same job, same hours and was tired too, but if I didn't do it nothing would get done and the dogs wouldn't eat. That was 30 yrs ago. Have you seen Jax's video (she's standing with a red sweater- best version) of I Choose Violence? (it's a line from Game of Thrones). Excellent. Excellent.

I think the "24/7 baby machine" thing is not only relating to giving birth to children and look after them but also being the baby machine while looking after the man like he's being a baby and just does nothing and all but being served

I HIGHLY recommend you listen to her song Last Woman on Earth, she talks about her/women's views on death and references some famous women's tragedies they faced after death

Funny you mention LotR because when she has the hand print in juice on her face and she shows her teeth, all I could think of was the orc with the handprint on his face and that she just looks feral in that moment.

If you guys liked this then you should check out one of her newest songs "last woman on earth." It has a similar theme of female rage.
