The Hallow app has a free version, and the only thing you get for subscribing to it is celebrity narrations and music produced by the Catholic Lofi (yes, really). It should be noted that all of this other stuff is also available, for free, elsewhere. So where does the money go to? Well, it goes to paying the investors, it goes towards paying the developers of the app, it goes towards advertisement for the app. This isn't exactly some Church funded app, this is just a bunch of Catholics collecting prayers, hymns, and 3 English translations of the Bible, and 8 translations of the Bible in 8 other languages, and putting it in a free to own app.

Two important things to keep in mind about the "easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle" Luke 18:25 passage: 1) At that time, there was a common aphorism, "it's easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle", which was used to indicate the impossibility of a task or event. So hearers at the time would not have heard "more difficult", they would have heard "not possible". 2) More importantly, the word for rope in Aramaic (the language Christ would have been speaking) is "gamla", while the word for camel "gamlo". So Our Lord and Saviour took a common expression and _added an awful pun_ for emphasis. Interestingly, this pun actually survives translation to English, since the loanword "camel" (Aramaic by way of Greek and Latin) is used for both the animal, and for the terminal end of a rope (although the latter has effectively become an archaism). The "adrenochrome" thing irritates me more than it probably should, compared to other forms of blood libel Q-cultists use; because adrenochrome is typically extracted from *horses* . It needs to be extracted from a large animal, because that's the only way to get useful amounts of the stuff. The amount that can be extracted from adult humans is too small to be worth the effort, and children produce even less.

Quite apart from the obscenity of monetizing the practice, even an atheist can read Matthew 6:5-6 and discover the gentleman from Nazareth exhorted us not to be hypocrites by praying "to be seen of men"; but to retire to our closets, shut the door, and pray in secret. Mouthing along formulaic words suggested by anyone else is the opposite of effective prayer, which can only be spontaneous, personal and earnest opening of the heart to the love of God. Again, even an atheist like me can understand and appreciate the simple wisdom of many things Jesus recommended, while scoffing at the many people constantly loudly calling His Name in public and glossing over all His actual advice in practice.

I found in my experience as an American that grew up in a Cristian/Catholic vaguely background. (My parents made us go very irregularly) That the shittiest people in my family still believed in their redemption .My father is a pretty terrible person that has quite a record, but would spout absolutely nonsense about talking to god and asking forgiveness is all you need to get into heaven. Despite the many literal crimes the man continues to commit he fails to actually take responsibility for what he does. Yet he thinks I should change my views and beliefs to the church. There is a large dissonance between their thoughts and their actions.
@juliaboon974121 күн бұрын
I believe that it's Catholic doctrine that only true repentance receives forgiveness so just a "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it and it requires actual work and a commitment to not do the action again. I'm sorry your father is like this and I hope he one day he learns what it actually means to ask for forgiveness.
@bogscholar69119 күн бұрын
@@juliaboon9741 I wish! I was raised devoutly Catholic and my parents never even got to the “I’m sorry” part… they outright *demanded* to be forgiven without doing literally anything to ‘earn’ it. Forgiving them was an obligation for us kids, but of course never went the other way around. They were absolved of all their personal wrongdoings because “we are all sinners,” but never treated us with the same leeway… Catholics are some of the most entitled and self-righteous people I know, in my personal experience. I know not all are like that, of course, but it was enough for me to avoid Catholics altogether for the sake of my own peace. Like OP said, there’s so much dissonance and hidden nastiness in many Christian beliefs and practices.
@juliaboon974118 күн бұрын
@@bogscholar691 A lot of the time I've found, it's less the doctrine and more the practitioners who use it to their own advantage in order to absolve themselves; therefore often doctrine does contradict the everyday experience of a lot of people wherein there is no real basis for a belief except that it "feels" correct such as demanding forgiveness.
