Hey Lar thanks for sharing. You ever get into dumping while showering? I used to sneak dump constantly while I was locked up. The drain cover wasn't bolted down so I was able to just slide it over and dump. I got really good at it and I could swish a log all net from long range. No lie.

In prison we had TV's on the runs in the cell blocks. One night I plain to watch a movie and early that day I'd made commissary. So I had my snacks,some cheese Puff's and s soda. The state cell on the older units were very very small two man cells this particular unit was built in 1929 and was the second state prison built in Texas "Ramsey 2". I was in the cell alone eating the cheese puffs watching the move as I got sleepy my had slid to floor. Well I guess I had crumbs from the puffs on my fingers because I felt a wet sensation on my finger tips. It really freak me out! I jump on only to see a hug rat run under the toilet on to the Pipe Chase. That was so weird!

When I was in NDOC we didn't have rats or mice our biggest pests were scorpions. One morning I hopped off my bunk to take a piss and on my way to the toilet ( which is two steps) I stepped on a scorpion and was stung in the foot. I caught the little bastard so I could identify it's species and lo and behold its an Arizona bark scorpion. After a few hours of intense pain my foot had gone completely numb and I walked funny for almost two weeks. I asked to see medical and was refused three times. I had been stung by them before but this was different because where I had been envenomated. Maintenance sprays for pests monthly but it never works, ants, spiders, scorpions and centipedes all get inside cause all sorts of terror on the tier.

When Larry spoke about the cockroaches in the ears, it brought back memories. I used to work in a hospital (not a prison hospital), but in a hot, swampy state. People would come in with roaches in their ears. Larry didn't tell you how to get them out. They won't come out with you just jumping around, usually. So FYI: if you are ever in a situation where you get a roach in your ear (and it may work for other insects, like spiders, I don't know), put a couple of drops of alcohol or hydrogen peroxide in your ear and the roach should come out and not do too much damage, because it can damage your ear.

I ate a mouse at FCI Ft. Dix in New Jersey for 1500 dollars. Changed my life at the time. Rats and mouse are nasty and were every where. Had ground hogs every where there too. I remember putting the jumpers under the doors. I also kept everything as clean as possible in my cells. There really is no excuse for living like a slob in prison, you have all the time in the world. When I did some time in Albany County Jail, they actually had birds flying up and down the tiers that would just fly in through the windows. They would always come after the lock in times because they knew inmates would be locked in but they could find crumbs of food laying around.

I work in the food service industry and was taking a class to get my food sanitation license and one of the other people was from the max security prison in the area. The teacher was asking us what we do to mark times and dates on food product, day dots, labels etc... the prison guy says 'we use a sharpie on the package when we think about it, what are they going to do shut us down if they don't like it'.
