Last Chance Bow Scale vs Generic Brand

In this video we use the Handheld Bow Scale from Last Chance Archery and a generic brand that is more than half the price. The main difference is that the HS2 will tell you your holding weight. Both scales have varied results, but the HS2 seems to be slightly more consistent. Both can get the job done. Bow Scales are popular products among the archers.

Do you really need a bow scale that measures to the hundreths of a pound? No. Does it matter if the scale is off by +/- a pound or two. No. I have a similar generic SPG $12 scale from Amazo. I measured the draw weight the three times on my bow; 55.3, 56.2, 54.5 for an average of 55.4 lbs Against the scale at my archery shop/range the average on three draws was 56.7. Does it really matter that the scales are different +/- a pound or two. No! The ammo that I use for deer hunting is standard over the counter Hornady American Whitetail, .30-06, 150gr SP. According to Hornady its 2910 fps at the muzzle. I used a commonly used chronograph and measured 2890, 3010, 2950, 3075 and 2900 for an average of 2965 fps. Am I going to dump my ammo because I don't get 2910 fps ever time I shoot one round after another? Of course not. The bow scales give you an idea of what the draw weight of a given bow will be. What matters is can you comfortably fully draw your bow. If not you tighten or loosen the limb bolts ¼, ½, ¾ or one full turn until you can comfortably fully draw your bow. Then remeasure the draw weight to see where it is. We're not dealing with custom made precision bows or bows used in Olympic competition. We're talking about bows for hunting and target shooting. The bow shop would need a better bow scale due to the number of bows they set up each week. In reality how often does the average archer need to check or double check the draw weight of his bow. Why would he need to? Hell he'll spend more time jacking around with bow adjustments than he will enjoying the bow at the range or out in the field. I know guys get caught up in the same deal with their rifles, ammo and scopes. Trying to get 1 MOA or less of accuracy at 100 yards. I'd rather be out in the field having fun than obsessing about half an MOA or why the draw weight is 1 pound off from last week.

How does the Generic Brand set the maximum weight?

I noticed my last chance archery scale reads a lower weight when I pull the bow back normally. It reads a more accurate weight when you pull it back really slow. You might be having the same problem. My Hoyt was reading 63 pounds then I pulled it back slowly then it read the correct weight 67 pounds that it was set at from the dealer. Hope that helps.

My LC HS2 lasted 2 years....readings went crazy, but at least it didn't blow apart like the knock-offs. I will not be buying the HS3.
