TRANSCRIPT
Hi there. I am John Bond from Riverwinds Consulting and this is Publishing Defined.
This is the sixth and final part in a 6-part video series on launching a peer reviewed scholarly journal. This part is called, Ongoing Sustainability.
My theme through this series has been sustainability. Don’t create a journal if it doesn’t have a supportive following. If you are launching a journal, pay closest attention to finding authors and manuscripts and gaining readers.
As mentioned, quality is key. Don’t publish something because you can, but rather publish it because it makes a difference.
It is important to follow publishing best practices. Find journals you aspire to and emulate them. Join publishing organizations.
If you are an open access publication, stay well away from any practice that has the smell of predatory publishing. Cabells International offers a whitelist of accepted publications and a blacklist of publications to avoid. They have a score card of how they judge publications. Check out these scorecards and follow the good ones and avoid the bad practices.
Get into metrics to grow and refine your work. Google Analytics and similar programs offer a wealth of information about your site. Consider offering altmetrics. Consider applying for an Impact Factor or the like. Do reader surveys. Become metric and reader focused.
After you launch, always been innovating. Offer video abstracts. Maybe supplemental data? Keeping improving.
I’d love to help you with your launch. Reach out to me for advice at RiverwindsConsulting.com.
