Nicely done. There was a snarky saying going around Christendom when I was young. “An open mind can be filled with anything.” My dad countered, “ So what is in a closed mind?” God gave us both hearts and minds. We should use both.

Beautiful! Thank you Laura! Such wise words and just what I needed to hear today. I love Anne of Green Gables and CS Lewis' writing also! I personally love the old analogy of God being like an elephant in a dark room. Everyone who has hold of him can only have and describe the piece they hold. There is so much we don't know and are yet to experience. Although, I have recently been told this is an anti Christian thought, and deeply offensive. I don't see how. I recently (briefly) joined a group of Christian homeschoolers. I have never felt more alone or judged than when in their company. They aren't afraid to use scriptures (incorrectly) to tell you why you are not 'Christian enough' (in our case because my son likes to wear red trousers and other bright colours and they are perceived as 'for girls'.) It was made very clear to us that they thought my child a 'danger' to their children. There seems to be a preoccupation with the Christian groups I currently have access to, to be increasingly divided with 'other' Christians and separate from the 'non-Christian world'. I always feel this is a fallacy because it is all God's world and no human has the monopoly of Christian knowledge. I wonder if this trend is because of the current political climate/ world situation or if it has always been so, and becoming a parent has just exposed me to a different world. I have never been to the Bruderhof, but I love the way that it appears that even though you live in community away from many aspects of the 'other', you seem so rooted in world view rather than just community view. Sending thanks and prayers to your beautiful community.

Your comment truly moved me and angered me. How anyone could judge a child for wearing bright clothes is beyond my understanding. I also believe it is totally unChristian. This is why I have left my church but not my faith. I am seeking a new church that embraces love, diversity, understanding and basic kindness. I guess that’s why I ended up watching these videos. In the meantime, I raised 4 children. They all graduated with Master degrees, my youngest is a PhD. They are all married to great people and have wonderful families of their own. And none of that has anything to do with how they dressed, what colors they loved, who played with dolls or trucks. My two youngest boys played with dolls because they played with their older sister. Maybe that’s why they’re such great fathers! Children are individuals. Teach them to be empathetic and loving. The rest will take care of itself.

From someone that actually was pronounced dead at 14 years old, I can tell you that how you affect others in life is key. I had good surgeons. The younger of the two surgeons was amazed that I could tell him exactly what they did to me. It was all peace, no stated religion but all was white, brightest color ever, no pain, and the hard part was after I came out of the coma. I did not want to come out. Now I am 69 years old and I am not afraid of going back to the other side. The only non verbal advice I have or was given was to help others. Laura, you certainly are doing that! You have helped me remember my accident. Thank you Laura for helping me spiritually. In the end, it is only now that counts. I admire you as you are always helping others, people like me and others that cannot see the light with all the dark in the world... but there us insight in each one of us, if you look carefully. The Bible is the truth and religions are supposed to be the vehicles to get there. Live each day with God and Jesus and believe in yourself, each and every day! We all can make a difference.

Laura, I really appreciate your views expressed in the video as well as in the comments. I think that too many Christians stray so far towards pride and worshipping the church and the men who preach in it they forget completely to strive for Christ-like behavior. They are all too excited to declare who is going to heaven and who is not as if it's up to them to decide.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I personally disagree that there is a hidden Christ inside everyone; saying that just invalidates someone's religion and makes it seem like the basis of friendship with different religions is conversion to Christ. Or that true kinship can't happen unless both live Christ centered lives. But I could be misinterpreting what you meant by that. However, I do agree wholeheartedly in the idea that kindred spirits can be between people who are different races, religions, cultures, who speak different languages and eat different foods and wear different clothes. Building those friendships and finding commonalities and learning from each other is what makes life exciting. It helps remind us of the good of humanity.

I love you and your thoughts, Laura. I am not sure that your views are representative of the portion of the Bruderhof community I had contact with last October. When I identified myself as a Latter Day Saint, both on the phone with Peter Mommsen (correct name and spelling?) and in person with some members of your St. Petersburg, Florida community, there was definite hostility towards me and my faith tradition. As I previously brought this up with them in person, and to a group of them, I do not believe I am out of bounds to now bring this up to you in public, as you, by KZbin views, are a leading voice of the Bruderhof community. I feel as a kindred spirit with you and many in the Bruderhof, and have benefitted greatly from reading many Brederhof books and watching the new videos from just about all Brudehof sources, and particularly Heinrich Arnold, every week, I am still wondering how what is preached conforms to what is lived, given my experience. And, of course, this is a major problem in all religious traditons. I am writing to you today, in love, that you and your community may become more aware of this situation, particularly as the Latter Day Saints are actually closely aligned theologically in many ways with the Bruderhof, as endowed members essentially pledge all that they own to the work of of the spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I love your videos because you have a genuinely curious and judgement free point of view and an amazing sense of humor. One thing I always found odd was the arrogance of absolute conviction, but having grown up in a catholic enviroment I was taken aback by the expectation of it being your faith by osmosis or you're rejecting it, cause I just couldn't develop the emotional connection to the faith, which is essential. I liked the idea behind it and what it motivated people to be and loved the revolutionary aspect of radical love and acceptance in the new testament in particular, but I disagree with the lack of focus on that in the approach to share the message on the institutional level. Showing children that idea of life as the way of life should be the primary focus in preaching and raising amazing human beings. My favourite saying is from the first book of John about god being love and not loving meaning not knowing god, cause whatever you define as a higher power in your life it fits as a simple guide to living a good and happy life. And if we all do that for our right reasons the name of the higher power we believe in becomes amazingly insignificant cause it's the same power ultimately. Colbert summed it up rather nicely by stressing how it's supposed to be a personal relationship not missionizing to be a testament of your faith, he said it more elegant, but that's the message of it.

I come from an evangelical background. I'm probably closest to a Baptist or anabaptist in my beliefs. I had doubts in my faith and got into studying the near death experience. My faith has gone full circle. The NDE confirms Jesus is the son of God and that the Bible is divinely inspired. Howard Storm was an atheist when he had his nde. He met Jesus in heaven and ask which religion is the right one. He was told the one that brings you closest to God. Basically all religions have truth and they are there to meet people where they are. Howard went on to become a Christian pastor.

I also read the part of Narnia you are referring to years ago and I was astonished at the thought that God would accept someone who served a false god. I was uncomfortable with it at the time. I am also uncomfortable with the idea that there is Jesus in everyone. It has become more clear as I’ve read the Bible and sought the Lord more deeply. No where have I found in scripture that God will accept the worship of false gods, quite the opposite! And nowhere have I found that “Jesus is in everyone” That is just not true. Your beliefs are closer to being a universalist than a follower of Jesus. You’re on dangerous ground embracing false gospels. In all things Jesus has the supremacy….He is above all and He is the one true God. It appeals to our emotions to embrace sentimental things, but God is quite clear that we are to be holy and set apart for Him. His way is narrow and He means exactly what He says. I feel there are two things to keep in mind on this topic: 1. That Christ is in fact the truth. He claimed to be God ("he who sees me sees the Father), proved it by miracles - especially rising from the dead - and founded a religion that received the complete truth about God and everything God revealed to us. Christianity isn't "a" religion on a par with the others. It's not uncharitable or impolite to make this point. 2. All the major religions have five crucial things in common, i.e. no matter who founded them, they still reflect a fundamental grasp of some essential truths: a) that there is a supreme being (God, Yahweh, Allah, Brahma, etc.), b) that we survive death (immortal soul, reincarnation), c) that this world is not our true home nor place of true happiness but a place of testing and preparation (e.g. reincarnation is in fact a punishment for sins: a soul stops reincarnating when it finally detaches itself from a materially evil world), d) that the next existence is where we truly belong and are truly fulfilled in some sort of union with the supreme being (heaven, paradise, nirvana), e) that what we do in this life affects what happens to us in the next. There is a concept of 'sin' and 'virtue' in every religion. Everyone knows how important morality is - that becoming a better person, which essentially means living in integrity and doing good to others, is what matters above everything else. But only a minority of humanity has any real intimate, loving relationship with God. Most people believe in some sort of a God, but relatively few have anything to do with him other than perhaps keep a few essential commandments. Most people will never even have the opportunity to ever get to know and love Christ. It's a real mystery and I think about it a lot, but it's the way this world is, so that means it's the way God wants it.

“Hidden Christ in each person”? No this is more Leftist “all religions are essentially the same” gobbledegook. Jesus was a liar, or insane. or He was who He said He was - John 14:6.

This is false doctrine. No one will go to heaven without the Holy Spirit. No unclean, unwashed thing will enter. You must be washed clean in the precious blood of Christ. There is no one who is good, no not one. Please study Romans chapter 3. You have to be born again by the Holy Spirit to escape hell's fire. All are born sinners and must be born again to be released from sin's bondage. It is only about the Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. Jesus Christ, the thrill of hope, for a sick, hurting, and weary world-Romans 10:9-10 from the Bible: “That if you confess with your mouth the LORD Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.”

I just seen your KZbin. Interesting. I believe we’re all created in Gods image. There are children of God, and children of satan who don’t have a personal relationship with God himself.

Dear mis. Lord Jesus made exclusive claims that there is a way that seems right to a person, but the end of that way is death, (eternal punishment. He said he is the way, the truth, and the light, no one comes to the Father but by me. Your talk is completely void of Lord Jesus' words in context.
