They're not always so easy to get off. Some are dented or there's a break off set screw intended to prevent someone from removing the back-flow preventer. A lot of these back-flow preventers are made cheaply, and you'll have to change them in about 5 years.
@ThatFixItGuy Жыл бұрын
I agree. They should make them easier to get off.

long story short just take the hose off when you’re done using it

I have a hose with brass fittings that I connected up to a brass on off valve. Now I'm a female pushing 70 with very strong hands and I only hand tightened this a couple years ago, but for the love of God, I cannot untighten it. I have tried two pairs of pliers, but that has not worked. I have not tried WD-40 on it yet because I ran out. It has been outside in the extreme desert heat of 120° F. Any suggestions on how to loosen these two pieces? I ask because I just taped three spots tonight. As I would tape one spot, another spot would pop a leak. My hose has become a whack-a-mole and I'm going to end up having to replace it, but I can't take it apart. Any suggestions for this old fart would be highly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Borrow two pairs of channel locks from someone.

plumber here, if you have a torch like MAP or propane torch, heating it to hell will probably loosen up the junk in the threads. It should come right off then with a pair of channel locks or pipe wrench, just DO NOT touch it with your bare hands. If you don’t have a torch or don’t want to use/buy a torch they do make specialty products that are stronger then WD 40 that are available at the hardware store!

@@williamalexander1743 @JustinKegerise i just bought a can of WD40 and will give it a shot tonight when it cools off a bit outside. I have vice grips and the plyers. Sadly, all my other tools were "reboxed" when I moved and I cannot find them. If that does not make any difference, I could always try leaving it in our sun. I do also have a heat gun I could try using on it. It is not as hot a a torch, but still might work if I have to get to that point. Thanks for the help and ideas!

@@cs7717maybe try making the spigot cold and the part you want off hot to make better use of thermal expansion

@@jsmith5443 I ended up having to cut it. There was absolutely no budging it. I even tried putting my two-foot-long 10lb irrigation pipe wrench on it and even that thing couldn't budge it.

What brand vacuum breaker did you buy?

I’ve got the same vacuum breaker I installed it perfectly It’s working fine without any leaks. I connected the 100f hose to it but there’s a problem : when I shut off the valve , vacuum breaker backs flow the remaining water in the hose . Is that the normal operation or not ?
@Here-2-Learn Жыл бұрын
What do they do? What’s the purpose?
@drl5002 Жыл бұрын
They break the vacuum when the spigot gets turned off. The idea is no pressure in the hose means no water can backflow back into the pipe. Every single one I've seen sprays everywhere and i just use a splitter to relieve the pressure instead. Works fine and doesn't get me wet.

What does a vacuum breaker do?
@Dosbomber Жыл бұрын
I've never had one, nor had a use for one, but someone in the previous video's comments said it's in case the municipal water supply ever has a negative pressure, this thing prevents the water being sucked from your house to pull water back through the garden hose, supposedly risking contamination of the city water supply.
@williamalexander1743 Жыл бұрын
It is true it prevents backflow into the city supply line, but most importantly, it converts the thread on the faucet to the proper thread for a garden hose.
@Dosbomber Жыл бұрын
@@williamalexander1743 That's weird, my outdoor faucets already have the proper thread for a garden hose.
