Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that I received the Let's Talk Cantonese book & tapes. This set is great alone, but even better in tandem with your video instruction! Keep up the great work! Cindy :)

Hi Cindy! I’m so glad you got it and like it! I’m sorry I haven’t done a video in awhile ... we’re moving house and so it’s been crazy busy. I’m hoping after this weekend all will be settled enough and I can do another video ... been missing it!! Happy learning!! :-)

蘇珊, 你好! 感謝你以前視頻中對我嘅良好祝愿。我非常感謝你嘅慷慨。 I look forward to visiting your hometown Chicago to see my cousin for the very first time after many many years. He is the son of my father's younger sister and very much older than I am. With the help of my sister, who is in Vancouver, we will see each other soon. I have never been to the Windy City, but definitely will enjoy my stay there. Keep those wonderful Cantonese lessons coming. I will recommend them to my non-Chinese speaking Canadian friends. Have yourself a great morning/afternoon/evening!!! We'll talk again. 史蒂夫

Awesome! Thanks for the little bit about 'baat' and 'baak' - I think I can hear a small difference but yes, still tricky! I have a slight number phobia so that doesn't help haha. Wow, real estate there is expensive! I bought a mah jong set a few months back but no one wants to play it with me haha. Looking forward to a mah jong video! Maybe then, I can find some mah jong groups and feel a little more confident to join in! haha Thanks Sue!

Lexa Axel How did I miss your comment?!? Sorry about that! Too bad you’re not in Hong Kong - I would play with you for sure! 😁🀄️🎉

To avoid mixing up baat (8) and baak (100): Baat has a t at the end, eight has a t at the end.

There's lots of beginners videos online, but very few advance video. Can you do advance Cantonese?
@breadyegg4 жыл бұрын
Or even intermediate. I'd to learn some more grammar structures. Eg "Jyut6 ___ jyut6 ___" construct.

I have so much trouble with numbers. They don’t register in my brain at all and I grew up with Chinese. I have to keep rewatching these videos.

Sanny Wong You and me both! ☺️ numbers have never been my strong suit and I am so thankful someone came up with the Yale System for writing Cantonese because the Jyut Ping is so much harder for me to wrap my head around. 😅

That explains in Mandarin 八 lost its -t coda and became ba, while 百 lost its -k coda and became bai, the -k coda is more backwards!

I would love to learn to write cantonese! Are the stroke names the same as in Mandarin? For example 一 is 横 (héng), and 撇 (piě) as in the word for 八. I hope I am making sense. :)

ELF hi!! Sorry your comment slipped by and I’m only now replying. Yes, the strokes are all named and pronounced differently (of course) in Cantonese but you make perfect sense to me! 🙌 😁
