So happy to see a new video from you, Christian! In many places of study around the world, the English learning process has been turned into a conveyor belt. Your ability to breathe life into English as a subject through your underlying curiosity is phenomenal! You are truly an inspirational teacher, and thank you for your work throughout all these years!

In 2018 I couldn't use English despite all the time spent studying at school, so I challenged myself to actually learn to some extent. At the beginning of that I stumbled upon this channel, so I started watching it. For the first year I could only understand the author, but was struggling to understand other content in English. Over the course of time I began to understand more and more. As of today I can say that learning is still in progress, but results are quite fullfiling. I've read several books, watched loads of movies, listened to great podcasts, met new people and much more. There's always space for progress, but I can consider my challenge completed, since I'm able to actually understand people and they also understand me. I wanted to thank you for videos you're making, especially that one where you compared learning to climbing a mountain which helped me a lot and I'm sure it helped many others too.❤

It was an excellent speech, Christian!! I agree. Language mus be the most democratic system. Although we have to maintain the grammar rules of each language, we can express in our style and accent.

I noticed that _Standard language_ has different definitions. Thus, I conclude, the term _Standard language_ is ambiguous. 1. In education, the Standard language is a variety (or set of varieties) of the language taught and tested at school. The definition of Standard English in the _National Curriculum in England:_ "Standard English can be recognised by the use of a very small range of forms such as _those books,_ _I did it_ and _I wasn’t doing anything_ (rather than their non-standard equivalents); it is not limited to any particular accent. It is the variety of English which is used, with only minor variation, as a major world language. Some people use Standard English all the time, in all situations from the most casual to the most formal, so it covers most registers. The aim of the national curriculum is that everyone should be able to use Standard English as needed in writing and in relatively formal speaking." 2. Sometimes the standard language is a reference variety of the language other varieties are compared with. Learners' English can be compared with one of native speakers, a heritage language or an overseas language can be compared against the mainland's language, and dialects can be compared with the mainstream form of the language. 3. In sociolinguistics, "Standard language variety has prestige and a more elevated position in society than other varieties" ( _Introduction to Sociolinguistics_ MOOC developed by the University of York). However, linguists reiterate: "All varieties of the language are valuable." Examples of nonstandard English: 1. In books, words are occasionally misspelled to mock the speaker's pronunciation. You can find deliberate misspellings / nonstandard spelling in _Little Lord Fauntleroy_ and _Pollyanna._ 2. _Plain speaking_ was (and is) used by some Quakers. You can find instances of "thee is" and "thee sees" in the direct speech in _The Bulwark_ by Theodore Dreiser. 3. "Him and us ate pizza."

I’ve been learning English for about 5 years. I have taken the PTE academic exam found by Pearson. I profoundly believe that some organizations such as Pearson unintentionally or consciously adds fuel to the fire, which culminates in making English even much more convoluted to be understandable. The sole responsibility of organizations and universities is to pave the way for all learners. Finally, having said that the aim of learning a language is to have a connection.
