@monamiejorge22863 жыл бұрын
Yeah that whole rant was gross. Like wah why can’t I live MY life. Like. It’s because everyone with that attitude is keeping us from moving on. Vaccine rollouts aren’t effective if our borders aren’t literally containing the spread. So him saying “I just can’t sit here anymore” just sounded like his tone through this whole video. Defensive and snide. But I get it. I don’t love being in a pandemic. But I understand it takes times because everyone isn’t going to follow protocols nor can they even afford to close down (Mexico, Florida and Texas). But whatever. Like he said. Our governments are really at fault because if anything no one except some countries like New Zealand and China (with an even stricter lockdown) are actually reopened with the majority of their populations safe. Not just some. With those not able to defend themselves (by being able to stay home) to be exposed to those wanting to “lead their lives” and having to work because our governments have financially made this reality impossible.but also he isn’t not not a spreader himself because the vaccine takes time to kick in and him traveling around Texas a state that basically yolo’d their reopening and the pandemic doesn’t keep his risk low. Because as we see he’s out and about. Eating out and living his life. But I’m over it lol. Just not here for the passive aggressive sweeping of personal responsibility - sincerely the “wahh naggy pandemic fauxexpert”

@CynicalDuchess3 жыл бұрын
@@browneyez13098 Being open minded is not a luxury. It's a necessity. While Damon does that though travel, there is social media and the internet to learn about other cultures, there is the free public library to check out books. There is the compassion inside you to see people who are different from you walk down the street and have the open-mindedness to speak with them, try to understand them, instead of judge them. I come from a low income family. I understand what it means to have travel as a luxury. I also come from a closed off Orthodox Jewish community. I made my first non Jewish friend when I was 20. But coming from a low income background or a closed off community does not give me the right to judge other people, or not try to understand them. being openminded and learning about the world around you, even if its just from encounters you have with people you meet on the street-- that's part of being a compassionate human being. it is not a luxury.

@@browneyez13098 oooh I didn't catch that part about trans POC marginalization. Perhaps I have help because I went to college with an international population, and I have access to social media. @@aurorasadprose2726 In my opinion (I am from Finland) most of us are friendly once you get to know us or ask for help etc., but in general people are quiet, maybe more introverted and like to mind their own business, and there is often no casual small talk or conversations, we don’t really talk much with people we don’t really know. Overall you only say what is needed and no longer conversation usually happens between people who don’t know each other well, at least here in Finland (of course there is some differences between the countries even though our cultures are similar). For example, we don’t smile or say hello to strangers on the street or sit beside someone we don’t know in the buss if we don’t have to. I think in all Nordic countries in general personal space is really important and many people coming from different cultures might find this rude. I absolutely love my country and recommend visiting, of course, but it is good to know that our culture is like this and in general people aren’t as ”open” as they seem to be for example in the American culture.

One of the things I like about America (and you did mention this), is the openness to conversation. Yesterday I took an UBER and the lovely driver told me her whole life story. She was so inspiring and chatting with her made my better. I love 💕 to travel and am definitely open to living in another country, yet there is also much I love about home (NYC)...

One of the reasons why the US are much faster with the vaccine rollout was because they had the "America first" policy, meaning that their manufacturers had to prioritize the rollout in the US first before exporting the vaccine to other countries. It's frustrating to know that the manufacturing capacity is still limited yet😔

Bro! My hometown haha I spent my first 17yrs of life there; there’s nothing in Paris Texas lol…. It’s funny because every time I tell people I’m from Paris, you see their face light up, I speak a little French to them and they are all impressed… and then I say “Texas, I’m from Paris Texas” 🤣 - the disappointment is real haha

Your video on a small town in Texas is more engaging than many travel videos on the most beautiful places on earth. I think your curiosity and open posture toward the unknown is what makes travel interesting; not necessarily visiting the hottest spots. Come to the PNW while you’re in the states! Keep em comin’ Damon D

I thoroughly enjoy the attitude that you have, where we get to watch you having made-up convos where you talk back to people in your head haha. It makes me feel better, because I definitelyyyyy do the same all day.

Maybe you said do you have room for one because in French vous avez de la place pour une personne would make sense. Love your videos xx

I love how you still have that good American core in you Damon, despite living abroad for so long. I also miss how easy it is to talk to people (I live in the UK)! The flea market manager. The stall owner (‘Daymon’ or Day-mien’??). I loved this video way more than I thought I would!

I moved to Paris (France) last year and the customer service/ stranger kindness is basically non existent and it was so satisfying to hear people talking to you and being nice! Catch me on the next flight to Paris Texas baby!

but... you know as a french person I'm always amazed by this type of comments, if you want to go to a warm place in France, just don't go to Paris, go to the South of France. When I went to LA and NY i only saw superficiality and despising, just don't go to the biggest cities

There is actually a movie called "Paris-Texas", 1984. And, there is a "Paris-Texas" restaurant in Kilkenny, Ireland which name was inspired by this movie. Maybe that one in Paris, France also have something to do with it :) Is there some mystery "Paris-Texas" connection through the world? Maybe a "Paris-Texas" inspired journey? Love your work, greetings from Poland :)

I wish there were places as a black person I could go without a thought. It’s cool to see it through your perspective but I know those types of towns are dangerous sadly. Also, I love your videos!! They always put me in a wanderlust mood.

I like your optimism. I can imagine it getting lonely in a hotel room, but you always know how to give it a positive spin. The nice people, the beautiful weather, people giving each other compliments ... It makes me smile and makes me want to see the world in that way too!

Hey Damon! About the vaccine rollout; it's pretty slow in the EU because there are countries (like the US) that are trying to vaccinate their population first before giving [more] vaccines to other countries. E.G. ariel bissett spoke last week on IG about how the USA has a surplus of astrazeneca vaccines just sitting there when it hasn't even been approved by the US government, so they finally shared some and sent them to Mexico and Canada. While we should be putting pressure on government(s) for a better vaccine rollout, we should also be pressurizing these pharmaceutical companies who are not keeping their word on the vaccine quotas, and calling out countries that are literally hoarding vaccines. There's so much to talk about and it's beyond frustrating for many of us EU citizens, but I'm really glad to see that you got your vaccine!
