Weird Rules is filmed in front of a live studio audience. We've asked them to leave, they're in our homes, but they just won't go. I haven't had an ounce of privacy for the last 18 months, but I suppose they do bring a little extra energy out of me. Anyway,,,
have you ever wondered what would happen if the NBA allowed players to just substitute in and out of the game whenever they wanted? Well, it turns out they don't want you wondering about that and even if LeBron James tries to do that, it ain't gonna fly. Find out how it all went down, what the rulebook actually says, and how Ryan really feels about Will in this episode of Weird Rules.

5:26 An athlete actually did retire "mid-play" once, in NASCAR. Midway through the 1973 Talladega 500, former champion Bobby Isaac pulled into the pits, got out of his car, and fled the track, disappearing for the rest of the season. Supposedly he heard a "strange voice" warning him to get out of the car or something bad would happen.

Kimi Raikonnen, the F1 driver, did this in 2013 South Korea GP. At that point, he didn't had anymore chances of winning the championship, already had a contract with Ferrari for the next and the team he was driving to at the time, Lotus, had a huge debt with him. So he just stopped the car right after the start, chage clothes in the trailer, walk to his SUV and drove to the airport. He didn't drive for Lotus in the remaining races that year.

Hey guys, love your show. I'm a high school basketball official, and the high school rule in question differs somewhat from the NBA's rulebook. A player may leave the court during a throw-in, but this is considered a throw-in violation which is necessarily a turnover...nothing more. On the other hand, if a player leaves the court "to demonstrate resentment, disgust, or intimidation" then that would be a technical. If this were a high school game, and Lebron were a gentleman about it, then it's Hawks ball on the throw-in and the Cavs play a man down.

Funny enough, I have a story that pertains to your opening bit; I was a hockey kid growing up in Canada. I never played or watched another sport until high school, where I was decent enough to make my school team. I got subbed in, in my first game, having only ever played street ball and scrims, and I literally tried to change on-the-fly. I didn't know how substitutions worked. My man was running by the sub area of the floor and I just kind of ran out in his line as if he was going to jump off the court and let me rock. The ref was not pleased.

In team handball, pretty popular in parts of Europe, substitutes on the fly are legal too. And another funny story about substitutions: German goalkeeper at the Soccer World Cup 2006, Jens Lehmann, once got 3 goals in the first half in a Bundesliga-match in 1993. After he got substituted during half time break, he left the stadium and took the train home.

He asked one of the aktive players if he felt tired witch the player confirmed, and then casually informed his coach that "he would play now". The player was Günther Netzer, at the time one of the most known and best football players in the world. About 4 minutes after substituting himself into the game, Netzer scored the deciding goal, winning his team the title. This was Netzers last game for Borussia Mönchengladbach, his transfer to Real Madrid having been confirmed shortly before.

I have an idea for an episode of the Worst: 'The Worst SEC Football Game' Ole Miss vs. LSU 2011; LSU is rolling over opponents, the only team that looked to beat them that year was Alabama but they won 9-6 in overtime. Ole Miss comes into the game just 2-8 and would later vacate those 2 wins for recruiting violations and would have to settle out of court with 4th year head coach Houston Nutt over statements made by 2 University employees. Ole Miss is going through some changes as well, 'Colonel Reb' is no longer the mascot after years of pressure but wanted to keep the team name, 'The Rebels'. After some fan voting and a big push from the student body to name Admiral Ackbar as the mascot (even though Lucasfilm would deny rights to use him as a mascot) went instead with....'Rebel Black Bear'. They'd later change that a few years later to the 'Land Sharks'. FINS UP! But there was some reason for hope; Ole Miss are Giant killers and have made tons of upsets. When Florida won the National Title in 2008, the only blemish on their record was a loss to Ole Miss. In 2009, Ole Miss pulled off an upset, beating 10th ranked LSU and would go on to win the Cotton Bowl that year. 2010 was bad, but they had lost a ton of starters like Dexter McCluster and 3 DBs who would be drafted to the NFL. The game gets kicked off and LSU scores 21 point in the first quarter, and any hope of a rally gets crushed when LSU adds 14 more points in the second quarter but Ole Miss manages only a field goal. 35-3, halftime. The game has to continue and LSU puts up another 14 points up in the 3rd and 3 in the fourth and holds Ole Miss to 0 points in the second half. LSU has done nothing but run the ball, they only passes 8 times and completed 8 of them. With about 5:30 minutes to go in the fourth, first year QB Zach Mettenberger, tries to get into the end zone but gets pushed out at the one yard line. And with just over 5 minutes left and the score at 52-3, LSU takes a knee on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4TH DOWN. All the players and coaches at this point wish that there was a mercy rule in place. All the camera closeups of Les Miles just make it look like he's extremely bored and all the players, including the Ole Miss players and coaches all want this game to be over. You even see some of the craziest looking LSU fans dressed up; one looking like he's a pimp? This game was such a foregone conclusion at this point that Houston Nutt even takes off his headset with almost 2 minutes still left. Anyway....this game wasn't just a blowout, it was the largest margin of victory in the history of this rivalry and today was actually the 100th meeting the two teams had met. It was also the 13th straight SEC loss for Ole Miss. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHmlgJ6onq-latU

Yes it should be their issue to play with 4 players if one just walks off the court, however if another enters, without the right procedure, then there's a problem 😅

Getting up and walking out is such a power move. When I came out to my dad, he didn't take it well and got real transphobic at me, so mid sentence I just stood up, went to my car, and departed. Great feeling.
