He committed a foul which the ref wanted go book him for and asked his name (no names on shirts in non league) to which he replied "Watt". The referee asked again and he replied with the same answer. This is another case of a referee who finally gets some power and is going to mete it out with everything he has. Baseball umps are probably the worst for this, particularly the ones who seem to derive sadistic pleasure from ringing a batter up for a strike call. And, the number of officials who are strong to acknowledge an error is a painfully small one. And specific to what happened, I am very noise sensitive and I would have lost my sh** with that blast. If the refs in Australia followed the 'red card for offensive language' rule to the letter the games would get cancelled due to lack of players. There are a *lot* of C bombs being dropped by A-League players in any given 90 minutes. Now to the title of the video (The earliest red card ever given should've been a yellow ), that's wrong. Offensive language is the red card offence, dissent is a yellow. Dissent doesn't have to involve swearing. Abusive/offensive language doesn't have to involve dissent to the officials. In this case he swore (offensive language) which is a red card even though it was not "dissent".
@bigpoppa12342 жыл бұрын
@@markdavis7397 It's wording makes it one of the laws in football where the punishment doesn't measure up to the crime (if it were followed through as per the lotg rather than via interpretation) and so it goes unpunished far more than it could, and where the punishment is in practice only handed out for more serious examples. Contrast to the Rugby codes which (although it's less enforced these days compared to the olden days) instantly punish backchat/dissent/waving hands etc after a penalty is given, with an immediate extra penalty of advancing the ball 10 meters (11 yards), which isn't insignificant but isn't something as potentially consequential as a yellow card or immediately consequential as a second yellow card then the red.

You lament that the rulebook (or as we in the pretentious world of soccer like to call it, The Laws of The Game) doesn't include a list of swears that will get you tossed, then later incredulously exclaim that there has to be leeway for common sense. This rule - like most rules in the official rulebook - don't go into specifics for EXACTLY THAT REASON, so that referees CAN apply reasonable judgement in enforcing those rules. There's very little in the game that doesn't have some level of ambiguity in it, not because it's poorly written, but because it's INTENDED to give the authority to the referee on the field to read the situation, and call it the way they see fit. Baseball's rulebook is written so precisely that a literal computer can call the game, and as technology improves, they'll do it better than humans ever could. Soccer's rulebook is a handful of bullet-point guidelines and a note that says "this guy with the whistle? He's god for the next 90 minutes."

I’ve given more yellows for descent than what I have for fouls. That just shows you where the state of the sport is at. The fact that we have to raise our voice and break out of character just so they can finally understand is insane. It drives me nuts especially when dealing with Hispanics/Latinos they’re wild
