Question for the pros... I used to detail professionaly half a lifetime ago, so never got to use ceramic. Do you have to compound the entire car the next time it comes in to remove the ceramic and reapply? / how long till you have to reapply?
@paulaur6 жыл бұрын
Adverstising advertising advertising.
@mad-maxx22116 жыл бұрын
Kuria Kinyanjui right? For me I don’t think it would need to be re apply for at least 4-5 years depending on how the car is kept and maintained. At this point I would just garage the Benz and cover it.
@ChicagoAutoPros6 жыл бұрын
Kuria Kinyanjui It would depend on how the coating is performing. If the coating is still hydrophobic and looks good there is no reason to reapply. Some coatings can last up to 10 years. If you had to remove an old coating off of your vehicle you would have to buff it off completely before reapplying. Sometimes all a ceramic coating requires to look good and perform well again is decontamination and a light polish. Every car is different!

LegitStreetCars I understand what you are doing, but when you are the only person mic’d or the closest person to the mic your volume becomes dominant and it’s very hard to hear someone explain with loud “umm hmmm and okays” over them talking. You might not notice as much because you were there and know what they are saying. Just a tip, you can chose to ignore it or take the criticism. Either way doesn’t bother me. At the end of the day it's your channel you can do what you want, but for a topic you don't really know much about it's nice to hear it from the horses mouth rather than 3rd party.

find it a bit interesting how they wipe the car at 2:40. You wash from the top down. You don't wipe the front door, all the way to the bottom, and then come back to the top with the rear door. You wash a car with horizontal sections.....not vertical. 1) Roof (I include all glass as well, and the top of my trunk.) 2) The top half of the sides of the car. (starting with the doors, leave the front fender alone) 3) Hood, and I include the fenders here as well.....they're so small it takes two seconds. 4) The top half of the rear 5) The front NOW I HIT THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. That's were a lot of the "hard stuff" is. I even have a different mitt for these two parts. 6) Bottom half of the sides 7) the bottom half of the rear
@biggabenne5 жыл бұрын
I agree washing top down is definitely the best way to clean anything that's in our realm of gravity... I think they didn't follow that technique since they're going to further clay, polish and detail the paint further. Still not a great excuse.
@didrikhalsoy59945 жыл бұрын
That's all well and good for a normal wash, but it just doesn't apply here. What'ever tiny fractional imperfections they make due to "poor" washing, they will polish away regardless. For a normal maintenance wash where there is no treatment after, then yes. That would probably be fine, ish... Regular washing with 2 layers of coating will leave little dirt anywhere on the car, so a simple degreaser (if I'm translating correctly) or/and foam on the car will take away literally 90%, leaving your method close to obsolete. These guys clearly know what they're doing, so stop the nitpicking, seriously. So tired of everyone trying to one-up EVERYONE on EVERYTHING when it comes to detailing. Did the car look fucking awesome leaving that shop? Yes! Did they do a good job? Yes!

Paint correction is an enjoyable hobby. It becomes a money pit of pads, compounds, microfibers cloth, lights, backing plates, and time. What you accomplish and the transformation to paint, especially old paint, is amazing. It's a great feeling once you're done and the paint looks better than when it left the dealership. I've never tried the ceramic coating and don't want to. New hobby is MTB and performance mods.

I did something sort of similar to my Mustang several years ago, except I did all the work myself. I spent a couple of days, washed it twice with two different "high end" car wash compounds, then clayed it really well, then polished it with a "high end" cleaner wax, then a second polish with a final hard shell wax. I had just had a full set of BF Goodrich T/A tires on it. I polished the rims with Mother's Mag polish until they looked like mirrors. I ArmorAll'ed all the plastic inside and out. I cleaned the full interior, the seats and carpets, with upholstery cleaner, I even cleaned inside the trunk. It was a lot of work, but oh man, my car looked better than when it was new. The next day I was driving it through town and an old lady ran through a stop sign and totaled it.

mrn4s its a massive rip off. $3000 for paint correction 😱😱🤣🤣🤣? That’s the most expensive paint correction I’ve ever witnessed and I’ve been involved in detailing classic cars in the UK for 15 years. It’s expensive even by UK standards.

I paid $1000 Australian for a professional detailer for correction & ceramic coating on a very chalky white Ford Falcon that was 17 years old. The detailer uses CarPro & I also maintain my cars with CarPro products which I find easy to use with consistently excellent results. The results from the ceramic coating were exceptional and most surprising is that over a year later, the car still looks very good and is easy to maintain. On the use of ceramic coating in the automotive industry, I recently had a dual exhaust system made for one of my V8 Falcons and had the extractors ceramic coated. The engine bay temperature is 30% less than the factory which makes everything work easier and last longer, especially these days with the amount of plastic in engine bays, hoses with turbo chargers etc.

It doesn’t really matter because at this point he increased the value of his car and if it’s well taken care of mechanically he can sell it for a good price or make the car last longer and be a lot more pleasing to drive. Instead of buying a new car now he has something that looks and feels like a new car. Having a makeover like that on any car can be difference from you being in debt 60k OR just spend 3k.

Yes, but an AMG holds it’s value and may start going up. My friend spent $50,000 over 20 years maintaining his1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL, only $2500/year. That included major work such as re-engining and a remanufactured transmission. Now he has a collectible which looks new. A high-quality car is always worth putting money into if you hang onto it, ESPECIALLY true for AMG versions.

"When you bring your car to a mechanic you don't want to bring your own parts..." THANK YOU. Someone gets it! You don't know how many people insist on bringing their own parts to my shop. If it's a performance part that I do not have access to I am all for it but please for the love of god, don't bring your own parts for maintenance or repair work... It's how we keep the lights on, people!

Worth it for the right car! But I think on my 2011 Kia Rio it’d be kinda nuts😂! So how do you take care of this after the fact? Do you take it back to them or can you wash and wax it normally? Thanks for a great video!
@kand1986 жыл бұрын
Chuck Iringtwice there are some special measures which must be taken with a ceramic coated video. Basically you don’t want to mix ceramic coated cars with traditional waxes and sealants and the like. By using products specifically designed to work with ceramics you get the best results, best longevity and the most gloss out of your coating. A really simple way to maintain the coating would be to wash the vehicle with a two bucket method using Fireball Hydrophobic Shampoo which fills in the ceramic coating and adds extra gloss and hydrophobicity getting the coating like new again. This also means you will never have to wax post wash again. If you use it once a fortnite you could have your coating last much longer than just 10 years since you’re adding another sacrificial layer. There are of course many other products that do the same thing but I like the fireball shampoo since it’s easy to get locally and has great value for money since it’s super concentrated. It’s also good for non coated vehicles as an alternative to a wash and wax. You also have spray silicone sealants like silex which would only need applying every 3-4 months if you’d prefer.
