I find it ironic that I found this video today, it was confirmation for my last project. I just finished an afghan (my design) done in double crochet and single crochet. It was done in a rush for a friend who had to have emergency surgery to have her foot removed. I wanted to have a blanket for her, to comfort her in her recovery. It turned into a prayer blanket with me praying over every stitch and it needed to be "mindless" because my mind was elsewhere. I loved that I had a gift to share and it meant so much to her. Hi Elise, loved the video today. We have so much in common. I too love having a simple project to work on from time to time. I am a firm believer that there can be much beauty in simplicity. Not every project has to be a mind blowing challenge to be a unique and artistic expression. I don't do well personally with too man WIP's so what I usually do is have one challenging project going and one simple free flowing one in my basket. That way I can pick up whatever one suits my mood or pain level. I have a three easy afghan patterns that I have made many times over the years one is made in panels and then stitched together. The other is a hexagon granny square. The third is a unique ripple afghan that I once saw on tv made by an Amish lady. It has a slightly different pattern than most ripples and I have made several as gifts over the years. I just finished my ballerina teddy bear and am getting ready to sew the head onto another doll. Ever since I found your channel I can't stop making amigurumi! I no sooner get one done than I am beginning another. You have opened up the whimsical side of my imagination. I am having a blast. It is really also nice to have the opportunity to use up some of the little bits and bobs in my stash. I hope you have a lovely day ahead!

That lady could look at her toaster, blender, or whatever and whip up a cover complete with flowers embroidered on the outside. I actually just finished a HUGE mindless crochet afghan for a future grand niece/nephew not to be born until October. I thought for sure it would have taken me MONTHS to complete it. All I know is I watched 15 movies, so let's say less than 45 hours from start, frogging that all out, restart, to end grand total time. It's the German Shells meets Granny Square. It's 72" in a square, so baby will have their own forever afghan 🥰 My toss-aside is going to be a movie snake. You may have heard how people are doing book genre snakes? I'm doing one with the movies I "watch" (let's face it, we don't really watch anything while crocheting 😂) and go from there. I've just started one using my daughter's stash of odds and ends (she's eleven) and I taught her to crochet two summers ago, and she is fab at it ❤ She collects yarn from all over, and I had give her some bits and bobs, but she has become a yarn snob (already 😂) and doesn't want to use them, so it's going to be a little blanket ❤ I also love to make the heat pads where you chain, then single crochet down one side, do three stitches in the end space, meaning you turn around the corner, so you single crochet down the other side, and do three single crochets in the end space, then you just single crochet around and around (one stitch in each space) so eventually it folds in on itself ❤ When it meets you sew the edges together ❤ I've been feeling super stressed, so once I had as many as I wanted, I made a pile for my friend too ❤😊

Hi from Oz, I've just picked my hook up again after many years. I struggle with tension regardless of whether I'm crocheting or knitting (and I can only do either at a very amateur level 🤣). Do you have any tips on how to maintain consistent tension, without constantly measuring swatches? I either find my stitches are too tight or varying too greatly to look appealing!

Thank you for this. I decided to try doing a granny square. Initially planned to do 6 inch squares, but like you, I wanted to do something “mindless”. My granny square is now 30 in. Wide and I’m still not stopping. Very relaxing.

Hello again Amazing Elise! ❤️ I wanted to ask you if you would think about doing a video on different fibers (cotton, wool, acrylic, etc.) and the pros & cons of each as well as what you would recommend making with the fibers. I have been crocheting for about 3 yrs and only ever used acrylic. I bought some Premier Just Cotton and wanted to make some socks or a headband with it but noticed that its has almost no give or stretch. I cannot express how quickly you became my "go to" in most all things crochet! 🧶. You are so positive and upbeat it makes me happy 😁. Thank you so much and sending you and your family love & hugs! 🥰❤️

Elise - I just found your site (10 Mindless Crochet episode) today. I want to thank you. I have had a nasty last 9 months due to medical issues, and I was looking for a way to find a way to calm my mind and find peace for a bit. I haven't crocheted in over 10 years, but this video has me finding my crochet hooks. Thanks again.

Elise, thank you so much for this video. I was making a blanket for one of my nephews who is six feet and still growing but had to put it aside since my shoulder and arm (dominant) hurt so much, so I made a couple of wash cloths. I totally appreciate the fact that you get directly into your videos without a half the content being abt nothing so, thank you.

I love Stylecraft Special yarn. I just made a blanket with their special Aran and it was so easy to work with and so so soft. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a slightly thicker result but doesn’t want the slightly strained feeling you normally get using a worsted weight yarn because it feels like you’re using DK! It is also cost friendly!

to learn to crochet I just used self stripping yarn and made blanket after blanket in half double or double stitches. it was the same thing over and over again. this helped me gain muscle memory without also having to focus on a pattern or counting stitches.

Thanks for your video! I'm calling my crochet project "Mindless" too, and love it. I bought several skeins of "The Pioneer Woman's" Brilliant Blooms variegated colors Coral, Light Pink, Teal, Dark Turquoise, and white. On the web, I found a simple double crochet pattern. When I run out of yarn...I'm done! My knitting project, I have to use markers, check off the rows, watch for change stitches etc. Love your video's, and your kitty!

It's okay for the price point, not that soft. But maybe when I give it a wash with Woolite it'l have a softer more cuddly feel to it. I do like the color combination. Will I buy more of the same in different colors....don't think so.@@EliseRoseCrochet

I think mindless crochet is the biggest mental health soother. My ‘scrappy blankets’ always turn out to be my favourite! With every stitch you enjoy the repetitive pattern that frees your mind. Never underestimate the power of repetitive crochet, with every one, I feel a sense of calm and accomplishment. They are the first blankets I reach for to give to someone who is suffering, to see them wrap those blankets around them and gain some sense of comfort from them fills me with peace. Never underestimate the power of ‘mindless crochet’❤❤❤

I took the leap and started doing the “forever blanket” you mentioned. I’ve been intimidated by blankets because I have pretty severe adhd and I am tired of having projects that are half done laying around. Well this has turned out to be the best thing for me right now to avoid burnout. Instead of doing a double crochet though, I’m doing a linked double crochet and it’s turning out beautifully. Thank you for recommending the pattern. I needed it.

This was a great video. There are three patterns that I have used consistantly throughout the years and I love them because they are so comforting to do. After a tiring day of work, I love to watch something on Hallmark and crochet away. I used to feel guilty about not trying something more challenging and I guess I will one day, but life can be very stressful and it is great to go with something familiar. I love your channel!

Hi Elise. I love when you make videos like these. I enjoy learning about new crochet designers and projects other people recommend. An acquaintance asked me to "recreate" his granddaughters "blanky". Next thing I know I'm making blankets for granddaughter and grandson( can't make it for one and not the other......he says). It feels like a chore.......and it's impossible to recreate these blankets exactly with their chosen yarns/hard to find a similar pattern . I'm never doing this again.

My favorite stash buster is a single crochet each row. About every 10 stitches you single crochet into the row below once then continue single crochet. My daughter still has the one I did when she was a little girl, she’s in her 60s.
