OMGGG THIS‼️ ☝🏽😩 lol Ok... rant time: I browsed around there for just a couple days cuz I had a question to ask... and ended up getting HOUNDED by people cuz they didn't like that I was doing this or that, etc. My hamster lives in a MASSIVE cage, with all the amenities - water bottle & water dish, lots of deep bedding, with an entire tunnel system inside it, all the foraging & dried leaves she could ever ask for, a sand bath, a digging box, AND toys to chew on, etc (and of course a wheel duh) But it wasn't good enough. People were irritated when I mentioned that on top of spot cleaning every day... I also completely rearrange the cage every other month. And, they got irritated because I said that I give her fresh greens every day too. ("That's too much! She'll get diarrhea! WTF?! lol) I told them all that when I do a deep clean, I keep a lot of her current bedding, and *RE-USE* it all, so that it still smells like her, and she won't be too stressed out. And I do the same for the sand bath & whatnot too. But I said that I HAVE to replace the soiled stuff at least every other month, because I can literally *SMELL* that it needs cleaned after 8 wks ffs! I said that I have an obligation to make sure that I'm not leaving her to nest in her own sh*t & piss for months at a time! What is the matter with these people?! Anyway, they wouldn't leave me alone about it! They KEPT chiming in, asking me if I had stopped giving her greens every night, or if I had stopped cleaning the cage so frequently. I told 'em we're gonna have to agree to disagree about this stuff... but I probably had like 8 or 9 people jump down my throat. And this was my FIRST experience visiting the most popular hamster page on Reddit, mind you. And I will NEVER go back there again. Sorry to ramble about all of this... but who else would I tell stories like these to?! Haha 😅 Most other adults I know don't keep hamsters as pets, or really care about hamster husbandry like we all do. Anyway, I had to tell you about my experience, cuz you are telling NO LIES. The people/moderators on there are mean as f*ck to people! Rather than encourage & educate.... all they do is just belittle, judge & harass folks. I saw somebody get accused of animal abuse, cuz they had their hamster in a cage about the size of one of those smaller Niteangel cages... instead of in a cage that's the size of their XL large one or whatever. But the XL Niteangel cage is $260 dollars! A lot of folks can't afford that! And at least they didn't put their hammy in some cheap, plastic inhumane Critter Trail cage for gods sakes, I mean come on... Yeah sure, an XL cage might indeed be better for a Syrian hamster... but the cage they had 'em in was perfectly FINE, and I couldn't believe what a big deal they made about it. Unreal. Will never go back again. It's only the Victoria & "Something Animal" channels here on KZbin for me, cuz I can't handle the folks on Reddit. They are an absolute menace. 🙅🏻♀️😤🚫

You make a lot of sense. I quit my channel after uploading (hopefully) my last shorts video in december. But I havent posted anything long-form since august. Fun turned to obligation, my hamster felt like KZbin's pet and not mine. My thoughts completely revolved around feeling guilty for not posting. I'd plan weekends around filming. And all for what? A channel with 3k subs, whom I care about... but let's be honest, my mental health at the time was more important. Since quitting, I've had one of the best years of my life. I just graduated high school in May, and being able to experience my last year of school without extra stress was fantastic! So do not feel bad at all for changing content... or wherever you decide to take your channel. You will improve your mental state when you truly enjoy what you make. Prioritize what you enjoy! In addition, you are the star of your channel. Some people come for pets, but I'd say a lot watch for you. So whatever *you* do that showcases your personality and life, people are definitely going to watch it.

I totally get how you feel. I feel that a lot with my pets and KZbin, I feel guilty when I'm not sharing every moment on instagram or youtube of them because in my head I think people are going to assume if I'm not posting them I'm not spending time with them? And when one does pass sometimes I can't even grieve properly because I either have someone asking when I'm going to get another OR if I do feel comfortable enough to get another I'm accused of not properly grieving. It's exhausting. Thank you for sharing your thoughts ❤️

@@VictoriaRaechel Oh my gosh, for realll! I felt guilty too for not posting every second of time my hamster was awake. Whenever I saw he was out and about, my first though was, "let me get my phone and ring light. I can use this in an upcoming video". It felt like I saw my hamster more through a screen than in real life! It was definitely not healthy. I also totally understand what you said about grieving the loss of your pets. I think creating pet content (or content in general) makes it hard not to become a slave to other people's opinions. Soon enough you start basing your decisions and actions on what others will find acceptable. It's hard to get out of that rut. It's honestly crazy how much people through a screen hold so much influence. That influence combined with the pressure we already put on ourselves is enough to cause anyone anxiety. I hope you can get back to feeling like you used to about making videos.

@@Allthingshamster and then when you start to have that mindset it really takes away from enjoying spending time with your pets! ☹ 100%! 5:18 I know exactly what you mean, here. That feeling does not feel good. I’m so sorry. I’m 15 and as early as I could fully talk, I’ve loved to sing just for fun. Whether I was singing to a TV show or my mom's music, I did it because it was fun for me. Then when I was around 7, my mom started telling the whole family that I had an amazing talent. And they were all suddenly demanding me to sing for them. But I never did. I can’t even sing for fun because they all expect me to be some kind of performer, which I’m not. That part of my childhood traumatized me because I don’t like being put on the spot. (I think they developed in me the stage fright I’ve had ever since.) To this day, I can’t sing anything without them staring at me or calling me out. But all of my other family members can sing whenever they feel like it and no one will say anything. It’s actually quite aggravating because I feel like I’m not able to be a normal human being in that aspect of my life. I feel like I should be able to sing and enjoy myself without someone always having something to say. I don’t care if what they’re saying is good or bad. Just let me be.

Victoria, you have been an honest yet humble influencer on KZbin who promotes good animal care. You know more than most people about caring for animals you keep (hamsters, cats, rabbits . . .) because you do the research. Too many people don't even read a decent pamphlet before buying a pet. Ask your viewers questions when you don't know something and maybe we can all do research to find the answers. I understand not feeling like setting up a camera every time I interact with my hamsters even though I wish I posted more pictures in my Facebook hamster groups. Often, I get caught up in experiencing my hamsters that I don't take pictures, or the lighting is poor. I did post a video in a slideshow format on my KZbin channel about my experience owning hamsters again after a 20+ year break. Your channel was one of the places I learned current good care for hamsters before getting those two hamsters a few years ago. Even the best expert in a field does not know everything in that field, we all just see a part of the whole. Donna RN

No matter how you choose to proceed in the future, there will be people who will support you. We've learnt a lot from your channel and that means you've also helped thousands of hamsters have a better life. That has meaning itself. So even if you think you don't know it all, that's ok: nobody knows it all and we're all here to help each other and help our hamsters have better lives. So thank you for what you've shared up till now. As for what to do in the future: I think as a primarily educational hamster channel, there may come a point where you feel, "I've already shared what I know." And so your videos will eventually have less educational content because you can refer people to what you've shared before. So when your videos become less education-centric, perhaps that is the source of your feeling not as fulfilled with your recent videos. So maybe you have to ask yourself: "What am I still passionate about now? What do I want to share with people?" Whether that's educational or simply a compliation of cute hamster moments, or something else, just do what feels true to your goals as of now and in the future. Don't worry too much about yourself in the past. We will support you.

I have had a non traditional hamster journey because I never had one as a kid. I did have one guinea pig as a kid however. My husband and I bought our house in 2019 and got dogs and cats. I love my dogs and cats but I really wanted a small animal because I've been volunteering Saturday evenings feeding cats at my local shelter and I walk around and the small animals break my heart because they just stay for so much longer than the cats and dogs here. Anyways I started to research and found you and by watching your videos I was able to get my hamster a 929 sq ft enclosure, deep bedding, etc right from the start. I also joined some hamster Facebook groups that promote proper care. So my point being that I know you don't know everything non of us do BUT you know so much and your knowledge has helped me to properly care for my newly adopted hamster, Gus and I know its helped so many other people care for their hamsters properly. I just wanted to say - I am a subscriber because I like you as a person. I became interested in your channel because I love rodents and rabbits - but the reason why I subscribed and followed simply is because I like you as a person and I find everything you post or upload really interesting. I also like vlogs the most, just seeing what's been going on lately, how you and your animals have been doing etc. I am sorry to hear that you're going through so much pressure and anxiety, I can really understand that people expecting you to be an expert who never makes any mistakes and knows everything adds so much pressure, such a situation can feel really toxic and take away all joy. 😢 I really hope you will be able to get that old feeling back, just uploading what makes you happy, what you actually want to share etc. I would be really sad if you stopped uploading, I really hope KZbin will become a happy, positive place for you again. 🧡

I've never had a hamster before, and got my first one around one year and half ago. Everything was new to me and your videos helped me a lot, from finding the best enclosure to treating them with the respect they deserve. Your videos even opened up my eyes to the fact that some hamsters breeds are in danger of extinction, and encouraged me to contribute to orgs which are trying to avoid that. I don't think we have such good content about hamsters here in Brazil. Long story short, thanks a lot.

I don't feel like much I say will matter, as what you think about yourself and what you feel is right is most important, but I want you to know your impact on my life as a pet owner and huge fan of yours. I love your videos, and sit up early each weekend to see your weekly upload as I'm in the UK (late seeing this weeks post as I am currently in the moving house process). You are so relatable, extremely helpful and we can all tell that you are a genuinely good person through your videos and passion for helping others. I got my first hamsters (Gerald and Willow) in early 2021, and I cannot tell you how much your videos have had an impact on my life. They really helped me learn new things and understand my hamsters so much better. I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am, and hope that your passion for content creation comes back to you! Do not feel obligated to post each week, and trust your heart in telling you what is right as how you feel is most important. Sending all my love! Izzie xx

@PickyPocketsLaughs6 ай бұрын
Hi Victoria, a little (or long?) break cant hurt anyone. Do what you feel. And in my opinion, its always good to look back at your accomplishments and experiences and realize: “dang! I did that, it was all me.” rather that thinking how much can still be achieved and whats next to do and stress about doing it. Its true, you dont do it for the numbers. But just think how many people are better educated now, thanks to your content. Like the video with the tape in the floor, illustrating the space ratio. It was very eye opening. Or think, how many little hammies (and bunnies) live better lives now, because of your content. This is not to put pressure on you - you did it! its already done, you’ve made a great footprint in the world, you’ve changed lives. Take the pressure off of yourself, film outside, film other stuff, release your creativity, explore, dont be afraid. Yes, YT became ur job but it doesnt own you. And ur audience doesnt own you, you are free to do whatever you like. Its your creativity & hard work and professionalism that the community appreciates. You can do interviews, shows us rescues, travel to different countries & shows u their pet care, show us a work of a good breeder, or just show us plants outdoors or show us how you paint. It doesnt matter what it is. Find other inspirations and as long as you do them with passion, ppl will follow. You’re great in what you do, dont doubt yourself. Also, remember - anyone who posts a nasty comment online, is def a 100% mashed potato. Pretty people & good people dont have the need to bring others down. Sorry for the long comment. I dont even own or never intend to own a hamster 🤭 Im here because you make the world a better place.
@VictoriaRaechel6 ай бұрын
I think I need to do that more often, some days I feel like I've accomplished nothing but I know that's not true and need to celebrate the things I have accomplished more often. Thank you for your words ❤️ ( I love the mashed potato part 🤣)

I can definitely relate to you about feeling anxious on things that you used to love doing or like meeting expectations. I'm so glad you took the time to decide what is best for you and your channel. It's so easy to take what yoy love and turn into something that feels like a chore and lose the passion. I can fall into that easily with my art projects. Sometimes taking a step back and trying something a little different will bring back the spark you seem to be missing. We'll be here for you whatever you choose! I hope that whatever you decide will be beneficial.

I follow your channel the last years since my wife and I, we started having hamsters. I think it’s not only the knowledge gained from watching your videos (your videos really helped me a lot the first weeks when we got our first little girl hamster), but mostly a platform of hamster lovers sharing experiences, which is nice (hamster and cat lovers of course!!). I think no need to upload with a specific schedule, e.g., a specific day every week, you can just upload them every time you feel good to record one (by the way, preparing a video has often a lot of work!!). The video stays there, people can see some days later, or even much later …. We all learn every day more things from our little hamsters. Take care ❤

I thank you for opening up to your community about how you feel, and also thank you for inspiring me to get my own hamster. I knew hamsters need a lot of enrichment, but finding your channel really made me feel like I can do it. Maybe you don't know it all, that's okay, but what you do is you give people the confidence that they can provide their pets with an enriching life just like you did. On the matter of social media - I'm sorry you feel that way. I remember quitting my Instagram influencer era because I kept feeling forced to produce content. I tried sharing more of my life going outside of my niche, other sides of me, but at the end of the day I just quit because that didn't seem to alleviate the feeling of "having to" upload. I had a passion, and the more time I spend on Instagram sharing it, the more private about it I felt. For me it was just understanding that I don't want to make my hobbies and passions into a job, I just want them to stay precious and private to me. I hope you can successfully find the balance of how you want your channel to feel, because we sure love having you here. All the best to you ❤

I've been watching you for quite a few years now, at one point when I was really young, I did look to you as an "expert" but over time I have grown more wiser and I look to you as an inspiration more than anything. As you said you like uploading what works for you and your pets and I have taken some of your designs and feedings into consideration with my own hamsters and I have given them bigger cages, more food variety, etc. I want to thank you for being an inspiration not just to me but to all of us. I'm pretty sure most people here can agree when I say you have inspired and been a blessing to us. For what you said in the beginning about being anxious about uploading, I recommend taking a short, medium or long break from KZbin and just be yourself for a few months and get used to the idea of KZbin again. If doing that doesn't help fully you can also try and brainstorm some new content ideas. I haven't watched your videos for awhile because life, but this one stuck out to me and I'm glad I decided to watch it. You reminded me of that sometimes people need a break and to just be you, if people don't like oh well! It isn't their life. It's yours. Thank you for being you Raechel and being an inspiration to us all! I know you probably won't read this, but I'm just saying thank you

When it comes to anxiety I can tell from my own experiences that the more you avoid anxiety provoking situations the worse anxiety gets in a long run Situations that never caused me anxiety now are and the ones I used to manage before I cant at all because I avoided them for very long time and it would take a huge anxiety to start doing it again

I've been watching you for a couple of years now. And been enjoying it alot. If you say that numbers don't matter to you then you shouldn't put that pressure on yourself at all by uploading on a specific day each week. Don't force yourself. The true ''community'' will stay and keep watching you. Upload when you feel like it even if it's just once a month you know. People will still enjoy watching your video's especially when you as a person are enjoying it. Just so you know I bought a syrian hamster named Snicker and followed your guidlines which helped me a lot and my hamster lived for over 3 years happy and healthy. Keep it up! I know for a fact I will still be watching you

I completely understand what you mean, eventually the excitement and love for something you’re doing all the time can wear down! Especially when you feel like you’ve now done your part, it can be hard to know what to do next or how to tell people you’re moving on. I struggle with anxiety daily and it’s refreshing to hear someone talk about how they truly feel behind the camera, also getting burnt out when your not as motivated to do something can really get you down! I’ve loved watching all of your videos but I agree, we all reach a time when we feel like we’ve completed something and that it’s time to move on to something new! I can’t wait to see you branch out and explore new interests🫶🫶

The reason I even know about your channel is because the #1 piece of advice I see the r/hamsters community give new owners is: "Watch Victoria Raechel, she knows everything." I can't imagine having that kind of expectation placed on you when you don't even want it and still have questions yourself. That being said, you really have saved a lot of hamsters with your work. No matter where you take things in the future, you've made an extremely positive impact--expert or not.
