Some great players make poor teachers and some great teachers are poor players, but Mr. Koizumi will impress when teaching or performing. Thank you!

Braddah, Dis is absolutely awesome. Mahalo, with humble humility. I grew up where slack key was a secret. People rarely ever shared their styles. For me, mahalo for breaking that barrier. It truly means a lot.

Thank you Harry. For someone like me who really wants to get into slack key, this is a most important tutorial, one I keep revisiting. I have learn t the positions. The big challenge is deciding and feeling comfortable with what left hand fingers to use on the top strings and maintaining a good strong alternating bass with the thumb.

Really awesome lesson Harry. I am attempting to do these drills with a 12 string, it sounds wonderful...keep it going for this 65+ old occasional guitarist who is in love with Hawaii and its culture. Been there twice and hope to return soon. Mahalo!

Thank you for sharing. Great video.I switch to slack key, because , I got tiny finger so EADGBE limit my ability to play beyond the major and minor chords. I was also into Claw hammer strum on the ukulele but does not sound good on standard guitar tuning till I change to slack key tuning. The Rest is History. Now I can play some fanciful chords like Augmented and sus4 and full diminished chords quite easily.

Harry... I just enjoy your lessons more than most I taken in the last 50 yrs. They are so casually demonstrated and explained. Honestly, slack-key guitar was something I've never considered but it strikes a nerve these days that compelled me to keep going in this style and I thank you for that. Naively...I learned Mahalo from " Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and my other Hawaiian wisdom is from Danrick Aviation in "Paradise Hawaii Style" with Elvis Presley 1960's 😉....after all, there's a lot of Hawaiian influence here on the east coast. Yikes..! Forgot about old Steve McGarret ( Jack Lord ) and the new Dano (Scott Cahn) You've got me ! Thanks again

Great lesson, thanks! Will any steel string guitar work, or do I need a specific type for slack key guitar?
@angelofmusic4776 жыл бұрын
One query, if the 6th string(E) is tuned to D, will the lower tension cause the the string to vibrate longer and sound awful? Do you need to change the 6th string to a bigger gauge so that the tension in D note is kept reasonably taut?

Harry, I absolutely loved your video lesson, and thanks for sharing it! I've been a guitarist all my life, and recently I've been experimenting with different tunings. This morning I came across Slack Key Guitar after searching the term "guitar tunings" on Wikipedia. I read the entire page, and thought the history was really cool. Eventually my searching landed me here, and I'm so glad it did! I have played in open G many times in order to play slide guitar, but your video now gives me a whole new perspective on this tuning; although I also wrote-down all of the tunings from the wiki article, just for fun. ~ Thanks Again & Best Regards! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slack-key_guitar

Also just wanted to say that I love your guitars--especially the one you're playing; what a beautiful finish! I've always loved light-colored maple fretboards. Especially with no fret markers, and with the ocean-blue burst, it's absolutely gorgeous!

+Brandon Veracka Aloha Brandon! Thank you for watching and I'm glad you like it! Playing Slack Key relaxes me and keeps me stressless! I hope you have fun studying it like I do! There's no end to it! Like there's so many great looking Blue guitars out there! :)

Harry's Guitar It was nice to hear back from you so soon Harry! I really enjoy talking guitars over KZbin, swapping techniques & stories, etc. is always nice. Your video was an especially nice find for me. I had the day off and played around with Slack Key for several hours; I almost instantly fell in love with it. I used the open G tuning for a while--which I'm used to for blues slide--but then I tried D "Wahine" (which I'm guessing is pronounced wah-hee-nay (?)), tuned D-A-D-F#-A-C# and I found my 'groove' on that tuning, as I always liked the key of D. Your lesson still applied to that tuning just fine too, with just a few very small adjustments. Again, I can't thank you enough for the lesson! Also, I agree about blue guitars--they're just special--must be growing-up near the ocean that makes us like them. I had a Chicago Blue Gibson ES-137 a few years ago--what a pretty guitar that was. Your guitar with the flamed maple top & maple neck is a true beauty though! I'll have to keep my eye out for something similar in the future. My Best Wishes & Thanks a Million from Cape Cod, Massachusetts ~Brandon
