I'm one month late (out of town), but I've also already started my fall declutter session when I got back. I've gotten rid of 4 pairs of shoes: 3 alternating pairs of sandals that I kept until I found a new pair that didn't kill my poor feet & 1 pair of boots (the few I have left will be trialed this cold season). All in all, one bag of trash worth of stuff was donated. Starting bag no2 & thought the series might give me ideas & motivation. I'm also on year 2 of decluttering. The goal of year one was to get rid of enough stuff to give an easy access home to all what remains. The goal for this year is to reach maintenance level (aka get rid of all the stuff that needs to go & reach the level of only needing to get rid of what's not needed/broken/worn out in a more daily, casual basis).

I am playing catch-up and just started Day 1 due to being gone over the long holiday weekend. I got rid of a few jackets but then came across a wicker basket with winter items. In the process of looking for the mate to a worn out glove to toss I grabbed a small faux fur wristlet that felt like it had some cardboard in it. When I opened it, I found my AMEX card, debit card that I thought I had lost AND three $100 bills. The last time I used the wristlet was last NYE! I just got paid for my 5 minutes, LOL!

I actually did the thing!!! My entrance/foyer is a small hallway with no closets or furnishings, so I just did shoes, hats, gloves, scarves and coats, wherever they resided. It really did take only five minutes! I decluttered seven things, net six, because I will replace one. I kept all of these things because they were “still good.” Silly moi! 1. Leather boots that now hurt my feet but are in good condition. Going. 2. A lovely black watch plaid scarf that I inherited from my aunt. Soft, pretty, --- and I never wear it because it’s too short. Kept for 11 years on a hanger in the closet - time to go. 3. Wool gloves with leather palms/fingers. Lovely. Not terribly warm, and zero ability to grip things/slippery. Have had for 20 years. Going. 4. A pink stocking cap that I bought because I needed one in a hurry and it was cheap and available at whatever store I was in at that time. I wore it but never liked it. It has since been replaced. Going. 5. A hand-knitted neckwarmer made by a friend. I haven’t commuted since the pandemic and haven’t worn it since then. Going. 6. A local team-themed woolen headband that goes over the ears. Not useful for warmth and never worn. Going. 7. A flannel shirt/jacket ‘shacket’ with quilted polyester lining. Love it. Have worn it for spring and fall outdoor activities/gardening for 20 years. Layered, or by itself, or as a quick throw-on to take the trash to the street on a cold winter night, it ticked all the boxes. But I have gained weight, and I can no longer button it. It is going, and it is in good condition, so I will donate it. I ordered a replacement today, because I know that its replacement will be used and well-loved. Making peace with myself and my body. Thank you, Cas! Day One was a resounding success!

I hear your #7 loud and clear. I got rid of four coats/jackets, mostly because of weight gain. I give up, they will never fit again! There are plenty more in the closet, but it will take more than 5 minutes of contemplation to decide their fate.

I then put my extra shoes back to their storage home in my closet. I put my husbands hats away in their container. I also put away extra 31 bags to use when my first two wear out. Finally, I put away the Kleenexes I purchased at Sam's. This took me longer than 5 minutes, but I dont care. I feel way better about the space!!

We are all differnt and there is nothing wrong with that. I nursed all my babies and I was always discreet, for my own comfort and that of others. I wasn't ashamed, but I was conscientious. Over 40 years ago, my family was at a restaraunt, and my aunt was nursing her baby (my cousin) right at the table, and everything was exposed and a young boy at a nearby table was gawking at her with shock and his mouth wide open. Around that same time we went out with a friend and her baby, she also nursed in the restaraunt and she was very discreet and covered herself and the baby. So, I've seen all kind of different ways women feed their babies, and it's not shameful to be discreet.

I had the video playing again in the background including the time it took to get a bag and rehang the coats on the hooks that were staying (had to move them to get to the old ones underneath) for the duration of the video I bagged up… 11 coats and 12 and a half pairs of shoes!! (Yes one odd one) Felt AMAZING to clear so much so quickly a lot of it was my 4 year olds outgrown stuff and the rest mine that hasn’t been used or worn in ages! Trouble it now I have a large bag of stuff in my conservatory which will need to be sorted as either donate or sell but maybe can do that at the end! 😬

I own 4 pair of shoes/sneakers: 1 Dress pair of shoes, 1 pair of nice sneakers that I wear with casual dresses (No sandals for me), 1 pair of garden and dirty job sneakers, and a pair of winter boots. I have two sweat jackets, 2 winter vests (I hate winter coats!) and 1 dress winter coat. I keep it really simple.

One work glove, two old bug sprays, a random car freshener thing that never worked, stuff I forgot for my sister and things I had been looking for - so some put away, some to other people. Hard to not keep going but if I did I would have started thinking too much.

I so love your stories. 😂. 2 jackets, 2 coats, 1 sweater, and 3 ponchos. And a few pair of shoes 😅.

I filled a laundry basket with my husbands "lawn cutting/snow shoveling" shoes last year and he let me discard about 3/4 of them which was a big deal, he hates throwing things out. They are starting to grow again....

I did it!! Pulled 10 coats and 6 pairs of boots, 3 pairs of shoes, and a few hats. I know that is more than 5 for today, but it felt good. My goal is at least 5 things, but if I have an hour to do more, I think try. We have company from out of town coming to visit in October. I need to get my house to a more manageable state. It’s not pretty right now. I have let it get out of hand and the stress is unbearable. Thanks for the encouragement!!

Love the ADHD friendly five minutes and we're not making a mess. 😅 You know it can quickly turn into a massive cleaning project and then the cleaning battery runs out

I cant believe I just declutterred my top closet and had empty boxes of my 7 years old baby gears and toys. I have been trying to declutter and failed on every attempt, and the clutters just kept gettingon my nerves. Thank you for the encouragement and free ebook. I can't wait to see how my house transforms at the end of this challenge, like I'm done holding on to stuffs that choke the living out of me. Love from Nigeria❤

I knew I’d be out of town for a week in the middle of this so I waited to start the challenge for when I got back. So today is my day 1. I am so excited to start reclaiming my house. It doesn’t feel comfortable right now, and you should feel good in your home. Just knowing I’m taking this first step makes me feel less stressed already. Thank you for this easy to follow jumpstart. I can definitely do this in tiny bites without feeling overwhelmed.

So much fun!!! I asked my husband to help and we worked together to go through our coat closet. Made sure we surpassed the 5 items - WIN/WIN! Looking forward to tomorrow! Thanks so much for turning decluttering into a game!

I am so excited to be a part of this 30 day challenge!! I went to my closet and came up with two huge bags of SHOES that I will never wear again and am happy to give away! Today, I cleared our dining table of all the papers and stuff! I start with 5 minutes though and it goes into hours cause I'm so "into" clearing the clutter. It feels sooo Good!!!

I got rid of a pair of my flip flops (ancient and worn out), a pair of my daughter’s flip flops (broken), toddler sandals that fit no one (in good shape, now at the local thrift store), husband’s old work shoes (gag), and a *very* torn up pair of kids dress shoes.

I'm starting a little behind because I was out of the state with family for a few days. But I just added things to my donation box... A coat I haven't worn in a couple of years, a jacket I don't like, uncomfortable shoes I never wear. Then threw away a box and old packaging. Feeling really good since I moved to a place on my own and didn't think I had anything to declutter. I'm excited to see what else I can get rid of so I don't let this house get overwhelming!

Yay! Two pairs of shoes in the bin, one for donate. Old nail tacs, go figure, out. Laundry shelf more organised, done. So good! I decluttered more shoes and coats a while back already, but forgot the laundry stash!
