Might have been said already, but you don't have to spam L, you can just keep it down and move your mouse to the meshes you want to select. It may make your selection a bit less precise but in your case I think it wouldhave worked no problem. Even better with X-Ray enabled I think.

The time lapse videos aren't meant for new users. They are meant for experienced users to see topology and workflow quickly without being told what key to press every step of the way. I love them. In a few years, step by step videos will drive you nuts and you'll watch mostly time lapse. These videos aren't really tutorials and are just fun to watch.

Love the live commentary while speed modeling. Gives people who are interested in getting into 3d design a glimpse into the thought process and the work it takes. I went to school for graphic design years ago, I love this stuff but I learned rather quick that I enjoyed it as a hobby rather then something I wanted to pursue a career in. A video like this must be intimidating to someone on day one in blender or any 3d design at that. Anyway, love the video!

Im disabled with Muscular Dystrophy. I’m often frustrated at my limitations. I love to be creative when i feel good enough to do so. Blender is free so that’s good for me since i can’t work. I open blender and immediately recognize its power, i liken it to sitting in the captains chair of a jet and looking at the control panel. Yep this thing could take me far if only i knew anything. I am a slow learner but I’m watching and re-watching your videos and picking up things i can use. It’s been encouraging. Thanks. Romans 10:9

I think, there are mainly two ways to react to the awe-inspiring level of proficiency displayed in this video: 1) Get a motivational kick from it to start learning more of Blender. Fast. 2) Throw a tantrum, whining "I'll never be as quick/good/awesome/... as this guy", proceeding to weep one's pillow wet. This would be the second video created by you I've tuned into. Both times I got the impression that I (Blender newbie) will learn a lot from your content and that I'd better turn off YT now to fire up Blender. The urge to start "blending" gets so strong that I hardly even finish m--- ;) Thanks a bunch for sharing!

For finding the edges of an open face, a quick option might be: in edit mode with vertex select active, select>select all by trait>non manifold. It'll pick up any verts that are on edges that are not connected to exactly two faces, so useful in picking up holes in meshes if they need to be watertight. Also, I think if it's the only part of the mesh that's open, alt-clicking should select the loop around the missing face, so you don't need to pick the verts or edges one at a time, although that can sometimes get a bit weird, especially on non-quadded meshes (e.g. produced by decimate).
