I had a conversation with a Fanatical Trumper yesterday. He was unfazed by the recent events or any other things trump has done over the past 50 years. I asked him how he could still support Trump in light of the overwhelming evidence and the fact all of his allies are and have been turning on him over the past four years. His comment was simply that he didn’t care. He said he just likes the way that Trump spoke his mind regardless if it was right or wrong. This is true cult following behavior. I like what he said about learning history alongside the news. Humanity has seen a lot of change and life doesn't always go as planned. The sooner people realize that the better they are able to cope with change and instability. In the meantime, live Your life within the chaos to the best of your ability doing what you can to bring the changes you want to see. My own son is a couple of years older than 19 and we have the same conversations. It is tough for this age group - there hasn't been a lot to give them the hope or pride that some of us older folks grew up with. These young adults haven't seen a lot of positive growth in their country or the world yet. Every time I point out something good, my son can point out where it is weak or skewed or a drop in the bucket and I have to remind him of how 100 years ago, things were a lot different for many people - even if what progress we have made is still not enough - it is progress. But we can't take progress for granted - If we are not watching, it can be lost or stolen from us. But we do need to move still farther. We ALL have a voice, a duty, and a right to try to make the world better for ourselves, our fellow humans, and those who will inherit our efforts. You may think your vote doesn't count ... but if you don't vote, you may be ceding your power to the very people who you think are making the problems you hate worse. Do not give anyone else what little power you hold in the world. But also, don't vote blindly - spend a little time researching if candidates REALLY do what they say or if they are just saying what will get them elected. An hour or two per election spent looking at websites, Twitter feeds and news stories on candidates can be very informative - especially during primaries. We need to stop electing celebrities with no relevant experience in the jobs they seek and elect more people who understand and have done some public service. We need fewer people who want to be leaders and more people who want to serve the country because that is what "For the People By the People" actually means. We can't have 437 leaders in the House, 50 leaders in the Senate, and a bunch of leaders in the White House and expect a functional government. Things don't work that way.

Your words were spoken well and kindly towards your young mans questions. News can get overwhelming and yes anxiety levels rise exponentially. There IS something to be said about being informed. But being informed I think stops when the anxiety and doom levels just get to be too much. Sometimes you just have to let the world go on, and just shut the tv off and stay off social media that is a constant contributor to the anxiety of the world as it is. Go read a book, get outside, do something out of character. With all that's going on we all need a little peaceful and calming distraction to the news hysteria.

Granted, I haven't seen a convoy of pickups flying Trump flags in a black neighborhood near a polling place, but that might be because they vote by mail here.. But, the information silo effect is still in effect. I've been trying to keep my conversation with others around what we have in common. I try to hear the heart of their concerns. And most everyone is worried about just getting by in a tough economy. Strip away all the red herrings and culture war talking points, and the common concerns begin to rise to the surface. I feel like this is where we could begin to recognize our mutual humanity... But it takes a ton of effort and time in many cases... In reality, he isn't fit to mayor a small town. His crimes are going to be the stuff of nightmares, for all those who love this country. He will go down in history as the worst president, ever. Because he is. A national disgrace and an international embarrassment. He's completely amoral. Serial marriages rife with serial adultery...25+ adult accusers and minors too. His prolific career as a sexual predator is stunning. His wealth and connections have kept him from any consequences. But anyone else would be in prison. If they had prosecuted him for half those crimes we wouldn't have had that disastrous, dysfunctional administration. We wouldn't be embarrassed in the eyes of the world. But here we are. Having to prosecute an ex president. A failed, twice impeached, disgraced ex president. If he had any class or dignity...oh well, he doesn't. He cannot redeem himself at this point. That would require humility. A characteristic of a true believer. Trump is not a Christian. He just pimps religion as part of the grift. But one day he'll face the Lord. And he won't be able to plead the fifth. 😏

I use to read some of what the GOP said just to keep the *both sides* thing in mind. I've learned since then, there is no making sense or getting straight answers from them. Always lies which just annoys me to no end. There is nothing wrong in cutting back and reading/listening to those who you trust and avoiding the rest. It's a good form of sanity for me. A list of people like you, attorneys/prosecutors I know keep level heads, MSNBC, Reuters, AP. It's enough. And if I feel overwhelmed any at all, I read or listen to nothing until the next day or so.
