Congrats! You were a very lucky guy to find all these parts in your scrap metal bin, as there are two identical cylinder heads that also fitted to the compressor cylinders, the timing chains and cogs etc. Nice work, btw!

I want to suggest you something: try to use the hybrid setup (1 cylinder as compressor and 1 cylinder as engine) with the compressor cylinder as a “super charger”. Connect the compressor outtake in the engine intake. Idk if it could work, but if it does, it would be amazing! Btw, congrats for the excellent videos, I really love your channel!

the other cyl not as an engine but as a expander, that is called combined cycle and is wade more efficient than the supercharged setup

In theory you can produce up to 1atm/~14.7psi of boost(Considering we don't have any leak and no extra space between the pump/engine for the air to expend) since the compressor compress air once per rotation while the engine intakes once every 2 rotations. But a good portion if not more of the power gained will be consumed in the process due to the force needed to compress air, leaks and inefficiencies.

The oil routing and using an old pump as a tensioner was smart. I was expecting a total loss system at first. Dunno how long plastic tubes will hold up with the heat though. Looks like #1 is more oil starved than #2. Though it appears both are getting a decent amount to the heads.

My guess is with 8 cylinders it would be between 2.0L and 1.5L. You'd probably need forced induction to get any practical power out of using 4 of those things.

As he was building it i was thinking to myself "I wonder if that could work". Then he does it and it does work! I think its a brilliant idea for a portable compressor for airing up tires in the field or something. So much lighter than the motor with separate belt driven compressor units. This would just be one small motor and maybe a small storage tank. Easy to carry around if you had to.

People do this with VW flat fours - use two cyl for power and the other two as air pump. Cheaper than buying a new gasoline-powered air compressor.

@@keithyinger3326 It's not going to last. The bottom end isn't designed to have the load of combustion on it, as seen by the fact it only has 1 main bearing. Also it would be slow. You'd be better off going to work and making the money to buy a cheap compressor. Or just put a motor on the compressor that got turned into a motor...

Last of all many of 2 strokes are cheaper than 4 strokes.

@@extractorfan2143 Well you can put a 2 stroke 1 cyl and then make the 4 stroke 1 cyl share the crank as long as there is two seperate engine blocks and then have something like a crank tunnel between them.

Hmmm... you could leave the ignition out of the two-stroke and instead have it pump air into the four-stroke side. Twice the compression strokes, so it should pressurize the intake - kinda like a turbo or supercharger. You could probably feed it through a small intercooler first.
