Brought back memories of our trip to Lewes - We got the bus from the bus station opposite the camp entrance and changed at Churchill Square and dropped off in Lewes high street.

We live in Crowborough, half an hour north. Enjoyed your tour, lived here 22 years and not visited the ruins. We drove through Lewes today through the tunnel to Peacehaven to have a habitation check. I thought about you as we drove past Lewes. We live near Ashdown Forest and Pooh sticks bridge. It’s worth a visit. The views are amazing in the forest, as we are at the highest point in East Sussex.

I can recommend a trip up to Devils Dyke just off the A27 in Hove. Probably 20 minute drive from the site. Views to die for and the pub does great food and drink! Friendly staff. Ideal for walking doggies too!

Thank you for taking us on your trip to Lewes. Even though it’s our county town of East Sussex, I’ve only visited on a few occasions, and sometimes to see Cajun bands at the Con Club organised by the Cajun Barn based in Tunbridge Wells (if anyone reading is interested). We live at the Hastings end of the county so tend to frequent the west Kent area towns more, although have stayed at the Brighton site several times as it’s only an hour from home and makes for an easy weekend away.

I would highly recommend a trip to Devils Dyke if you have time. A 20 minute drive from the site. Superb views, along the South Downs and down to the sea. A dog friendly pub with great food and drink. Doggies would love the walk too!

Thanks for another adventure, I’ll never understand why dogs can’t go in castles.
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
I can only assume they have had problems with irresponsible owners.

Please go to visit BEXHILL-ON-SEA, De la Warr pavilion lovely art deco building which featured in Agatha Christie - ABC murders with David Suchet and look out for all of the large model ducks on the seafront. Also, the best fish and chips at MARINOs in Sackville road ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Interesting as to why they slept with shoes on? Taking a bath at Christmas and Easter too, mind you in the 60's it was have a bath once a week on a Sunday :) I think it was anyway lol . That is horrible they said no dogs, poor Poppy and Tara, is it an heritage site? maybe email them.

They would have been pretty smelly, those feet...

Is there a reason why you could not take dogs to castle it’s only a ruin is it not.
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's a ruin or not, never got in. The ones owned by the Sussex Historical people don't seem to like dogs....
