Progressive metal tends to use a lot of different time signatures and/or polyrhythms. Once you find the pattern it's easy to follow. 3/4 and 7/4 are pretty common so listen for patterns around that many quarter notes. For banging along one of the percussive instruments will usually be held in a quarter note time so it can be jammed to.

Great to see you checking out some Djenty stuff! If you're looking for a band that have the Djent heaviness, but also create ethereally effervescent atmospheres, check out TESSERACT - Concealing Fate Part I - Acceptance (Studio). Great band, great allround demo of what they do. TESSERACT - Concealing Fate Part I - Acceptance

With prog music and Periphery focus on the hihats or cymbals. They usually remain in 4/4 or 8/8. Easiest way to catch the beat! I'd recommend checking out Reptile or Stranger Things by Periphery for a future reaction :3

Best growler in metal imo would be Archspire- Human Mumuration Oli peters is the vocalist of Archspire he is fast screamer as well. Then Cattle Decapitation, Napalm Death, Revocation, Veil of maya, Born of Osiris, After the burial, Cradle of filth and Dying Fetus. There are tons of awesome vocalists in metal. I've been a metalhead for over a decade so it is hard to pick only one or a few bands. But you absolutely have to check out Archspire- Human Mumuration!! Your going to be blown away.

Sup? New subscriber here. I appreciate those who are willing to step out of their comfort zone in regards to music, so props. Periphery is in my top four, so I definitely can't wait for more of those reactions, but I noticed you've reacted to Jinjer and Tool, which are both also in my top four. Once again, props. Now I haven't checked all of your videos yet, so I may be getting ahead of myself here, but the final band in my top four is known as The Agonist. If you decide to react to them as well, my favorite song happens to be "Ideomotor." Either way, I'll be checking out more of your videos, and I look forward to your next Metal reaction. Love and Peace from The Zeph.

Periphery love playing in 7/8. But something they do alot which many people don't mention is that they tend to play a bar of 7, followed by a bar of 8.. call that 15/8 or whatever, but they have gotten very good at including that in their songs without ruining the groove and melody.

Actually, as a guitarist, when I want to learn a song from Periphery if I see those 'weird' time signatures I'm fine with it. When I see it's 4/4, then I shit myself. Because I know there is going to be insane syncopation and stuff like that which is way harder to get down.

Ben from Shadow of Intent has probably the best growl in Deathcore atm. But check out Bloodbath's song Devouring the Feeble, Mikael Akerfeldt at one time had my personal favorite growl.

Some of the best screamers/growlers in metal in my opinion include Phil Labonte from All That Remains (check out the song This Calling, although I'd warn you that the music video has graphic clips from a Saw movie in it), Winston McCall from Parkway Drive (check out one of their older songs like Carrion, Romance is Dead, or Sleepwalker), Tim Lambesis from As I Lay Dying, and Howard Jones formerly of Killswitch Engage (currently in Light the Torch). For Killswitch I'd recommend My Curse or Rose of Sharyn. The End of Heartache is great too but the music video for that cuts out most of the growls for some reason.

3:03 hell yeah my man. It’s called syncopation it’s wacky stuff, definitely keeps things interesting by alternating between off beat and on beat idk can’t describe it well today

I can't answer your question as to "who has the best growl in rock" but as far as the best voice? You're VERY close here with Spencer Sotelo of Periphery, but there's one band I want you to hear who I think has the best singer. TesseracT. (Dan Tompkins). He, I think, has the best overall voice, in prog rock. Check out "King" or "Concealing Fate Part 1" - overall a solid band. If you're looking for more Periphery stuff, "Reptile" or "Garden in the Bones." Possibly "Stranger Things."

Probably a little to heavy for your style but the best heavy metal growler/screamer is either Phil Bozeman from Whitechapel, or Trevor Strnad from The Black Dahlia Murder. Love your reacts!

Timing sounds odd because it's odd numbers, not just evens..beats on the 3 or 7 etc..this is a very basic way to explain it quickly.
