Ditto, good work and cheers for the review. I was fence sitting with exactly the circumstances you described, 1440p 27 or 29" 21:9 and I think given that my 480 might struggle with 1440p you've sold me on this monitor.

Well, ended up buying this monitor, since it was on a heavy sale here in my country. Compared to a 6-years old Samsung 23" 1ms LED display, here are the pros/cons for those who want one more opinion: Pros - the extra area is really helpful from minute one - IPS wider angles of vision are helpful sometimes - vibrant colors (including whites AND blacks) - excellent practical menu - VESA holes - good stand - good sound actually - 75 Hz on Display Port even with Nvidia Graphics (haven't tested yet) - mine isn't showing any dead pixel or light bleed so far Cons - the actual screen is actually a tiny bit smaller in height than a Samsung 23" widescreen - the upper and side bezels are "printed" on the screen, they're not made of plastic - the VESA holes are 75mm, if you have a 100-75mm mount it may interfere with the upper HDMI port and the Display Port - it has a tiny little bit of ghosting if you're reeeeally looking for it, but you'll never notice ingame; on the other hand, it doesn't have other image artifacts that my old one had Overall, it's a safe bet to change your old 23" LED monitor for it, no question about that, but the main selling point IMO is price + ultrawide. If you're looking for 120+ Hz or is coming from a 27" widescreen, I think the widescreen and the IPS alone won't please you.
@WordTech
@WordTech 8 жыл бұрын
Very well thought out comment, thanks for adding your thoughts! I personally prefer the "printed" as you called it bezels, but that's just me. I use mine in the complete dark often times and it makes those bezels pretty much disappear, whereas the glossy bottom one is pretty obvious.

I've been running this monitor at 60hz for months now because I thought the 75hz option was locked to 1024x768 resolution. It turns out that you just need to enable Freesync in the OSD options menu, then the 75hz refresh rate becomes an option in your settings. Awesome review by the way, it felt like I was listening to a human!
@WordTech
@WordTech 7 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I don't seem to have the same issue with it, running on an NVidia card (meaning FreeSync is off in the OSD) at 75hz without issues, just using a custom resolution in NVidia Control Panel. Either way glad you managed to get it working. Thanks for the compliment and don't forget to subscribe!

The speakers are output, audio comes from either the HDMI or displayport. I plugged external speakers into the jack to get the Digital audio out to them instead of lugging them into the PC.
@Samiby
@Samiby 8 жыл бұрын
I don't mind the power brick being external, it's probably helped with the speakers not picking up a ground loop from the power supply, and it's hidden behind my desk so hasn't been a problem. Do love this monitor, got used to ultrawide within a night and don't think I could easily go back to regular 16:9. Films are a dream to watch, gaming is brilliant, the gtx 970 can easily cope with the ultrawide 1080p resolution in a tonne of games, many games do actually support this resolution which I was surprised by and overall, for 250 quid, absolute bargain. Been wanting an ultrawide monitor since they were first announced in something like 2011 and this has finally been worthwhile to get one. Great video by the way.
@WordTech
@WordTech 8 жыл бұрын
I suppose it would help with the speakers not picking up interference, but for me it gets in the way of my cable management, what I usually end up doing is adhesing the brick to the bottom of my table which does a pretty great job of hiding it, still I have always felt with something as large as a monitor you could easily fit he brick inside. I agree with that, UltraWide is the way to go and I for sure won't be switching back, probably will end up going for a 1440p UltraWide in the near future as well. The 970 is a great card for anything 1080p for sure, I think for 1440p it lacks a little but 1920X1080 or 2560X1080 it does great at! Thanks for watching and please subscribe!

Great review man, you covered almost every detail I wanted to know about this monitor. Keep up the good work. Quick question though: I was considering buying this monitor, but since I will be playing a lot of Overwatch and Overwatch doesn't support 21:9 properly, I decided against it. What's your experience with this monitor in games that don't support 21:9?
@WordTech
@WordTech 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks much appreciated and thanks for watching! As for the 21:9 support, most games seem to support it pretty well, but for games that don't there is usually a work around of some sort. But if there is no known workaround, you can simply run the monitor in 16:9 mode with black bars on either side, essentially making this a standard 1080p 23 inch monitor. It's pretty quick to change the setting to the 16:9 mode as well which is nice. Don't forget to subscribe!

I chose this over the 34". At 1080p the 29" has a sharper picture. This is an excellent monitor for the money. The only thing I would recommend over this is a 1440p curved 34" which approaches 4 figures. Out of the budget for many of us. Aside from that, this kid is surprisingly knowledgeable and a really good presenter.

I am actually getting a 34" 1440p here pretty soon for doing my editing on, but this has been a great panel for the time being and I am really glad I went with 29" for sure at 1080p. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the compliment! We upload 5 days a week now so make sure to stay tuned!

I just picked this monitor up yesterday for $199 at Fry's electronics after a price match from B&H. I purchased it thanks to this review, I have it paired with an RX580 and the Freesync is legit on this monitor, it dropped to like 48 fps at one point in an intense scene and it felt buttery smooth, thanks for this! FYI: Not a deal breaker but it does have smaller bezels on all edges except for bottom. At the top and sides there is screen space that is always dark despite it looking like it will give a full bezel to bezel experience. Got it used from my buddy today, not sure if he left it on forever but it does look a little darker than my previous 22" LG panel I bought in 2013 despite being far newer. BUT THE SCREEN SIZE IS AWESOME!

First of all congratulations for taking the leap to start your own channel. Some suggestions: Do more research, determine your goal for the video (in this case a review), address the facts as stipulated by the manufacturer and or an independent third party's thorough technical analysis that may confirm or find actual differences than the manufacturer's tech spec, features, etc. Try to stay focused on the goal and attempt to refrain from statements like "I feel" or "I think". It gives the audience a sense of feeling that you aren't quite sure about the product. Finally give your opinion of your evaluation of the product with specific tech specs and or features. If applicable how does the product compare to similar products, differentiate from similar product or in this case the 21:9 "Cinema" vs the 16x9 format, price to feature/specs. Then give the audience your view/opinion of the good and not so good. You weren't quite sure of tech specs and or some of the features the product offered. "Is the consumer spending the money wisely or is there a better option, etc. As a viewer I felt unsure of the features and specs; you were not quite sure, yet you unequivocally gave the product an impeccable endorsement. If your goal is to eventually get sponsors to provide you with product for review; is this product the best you will ever review? Manufacturer's want to know that you will give an unbiased opinion and not that the product you just reviewed is the best you will ever review. The following is directly from LG's website. I am familiar with the monitor and Freesync. The monitor being a 21:9 is actually considered a 2K monitor as referenced by the pixel Pitch of .2628 vs. say a 27 inch 16x9 at 1080P with a pixel pitch of .32 +/-. Thus this monitor technically speaking has a better resolution than the 27" 1080P. But what are the advantages of a 27" 16x9 1080P vs 21:9 2K? Did your LG 29" have any backlight bleeding? What types of issues are common with wide screen monitors. Just something to think about. Good luck and best wishes. From LG's website: Pixel Pitch 0.2628 mm x 0.2628 mm Resolution Maximum Resolution 2560 x 1080 @ 60 Hz Recommended Resolution 2560 x 1080 @ 60 Hz Video Signal Horizontal Frequency 30 kHz to 90 kHz Vertical Frequency HDMI:(AV)25Hz to 60 Hz (PC)56Hz to75 Hz DP: 56 Hz to 75 Hz

I've gone back and forth on monitors recently. As a Geforce user I looked at Gsync monitors. Ordered a Dell S2417DG 1440p but cancelled the order because my past experience with a ultra wide monitor was very positive anf this gsync is 16:9. Ultra-wide Gsync monitors start around 1k so I chose this freesync monitor. At $249 I think its a deal, though I wish I got it when it was on sale for $199. My next desktop build I hope will be based on AMD CPU and GPUs so hopefully I'll get to try the freesync aspect. Loved the video and I think Im going to subscribe.

Yeah I can't move away from UltraWide myself, the extra space to work and the better view in games is just unbeatable. I will be moving to something much higher end later this year hopefully, but for now this is great, and it's pretty much the best UW monitor you can get for the price on the market right now. I hope AMD's Ryzen and Vega end up being really good, if so I might build a new desktop around them as well. Thanks for watching!

Very good review, video quality, and run down on these truly delightful monitors. For no real good reason aside from "just because," I am running a pair of these LG-29UM68-Ps off of an Nvidia 1050ti and I haven't noticed any blurring or discoloration and the image quality is crisp and clear. IPS offers brightness and clarity not seen on the older TFT displays. One is on Display Port and the other HDMI. Full, boarderless, widescreen blu-ray rips look fantastic with all the clarity, detail, and no obnoxious boarders. Mainly I have found that they are good for enlarging text for easier reading, and a bit of gaming and have yet to do anything taxing such as video editing or productivity with them. Though it could pass in a single display setup, it is still better in a dual display configuration. People by monitors for the display, not the speakers so who cares if they are crappy. Yes, I would purchase these monitors again and recommend them for others looking for quality display.

Hey man. Good for you. Pretty good video. Try not to emulate so many high production videos. Do your own thing. The long EDM preset adobe light show intros are a bit over used these days and can get pretty annoying. Same with that blurry light shot. Not needed. Break it up in segments with some really close up panning shots with voice over when your describing stuff. Great in depth review. One of the best.

Thanks for watching! Yeah 1080p is honestly too low for a 34 inch, it's totally fine and sharp looking on the 29 inch though, bigger difference than I expected.
@JamesCoyle95
@JamesCoyle95 8 жыл бұрын
Can't decide whether to go for this one or pay a bit extra for the 34 inch one. The 34 inch is a tiny bit too big for the space I have and will sit slightly off center but has the better stand and fills more of the field of view. I love that you showed off the software a bit more as most reviews neglect to show that and it's a really important factor to consider.
@WordTech

I would say go for this one, at the 1080p resolution 34 inches brings in a pretty low PPI of about 81, whereas the 29 inch brings you 95, very close to that wonderful 100 PPI mark. If you want a good comparison, go to a local store that carries monitors, and check out the resolution difference between a 23 inch monitor and a 27 inch monitor, those are very close to the same PPI so are great for comparison. Basically a 29 is a 23 but wider, and a 34 is a 27 but wider, this isn't exact but pretty close. If you're talking 1440p then a 34 inch is great. Thanks For watching and for the compliment! Please subscribe!

I agree and enjoyed your video but after you saying consumers want the brick built in and they don't care about thickness I couldn't disagree more. Me personally I have purchased a thick monitor with it built in and I hate how far of sticks put even with a swim mount. For people who are tight on space or are going for a super clean setup a thin monitor is nice. It's also not hard to attach the brick under your desk and reduces monitor heat as well.

I suppose this is true, I just feel it's so hard to manage the cables when there is a brick, and cables in my eyes are worse than a thick monitor.

I just wondered what setting you changed on the panel in terms of color, brightness, etc? Great review by the way - I'll be getting one myself I think!

Thanks for watching! As for the settings, I adjusted the brightness down some (to about 70 I believe), the color settings were left alone, and I did turn black stabilizer up to 60 percent from 50 percent. Everything else was stock, and it's quite beautiful! Don't forget to like and subscribe!

Also quickly, color accuracy is very important to me as I work with a few graphics. Would this suffice?
@WordTech

I feel it does, I do all my editing on this panel and it suites me well. I don't do any color work, but nothing ever seems off with it. I don't have a color calibration measurement tool right now (plan to in the future though), but I would say go for it.

When I first saw you I though, gosh another KID video, but I gave you a chance and was surprised that this is actually a pretty good review. Now I roll with a 34 in curved ultra wide (3440 x 1440) for gaming, and about to get into streaming (well considering it) and was looking for a solution for all the 'stuff' (OBS, Twitch, etc) that would have to go on to another display. Although I'm not finished in researching the solution, I believe that a single 22-25 in would probably be too small, another 34 in would be overkill for several reason. I'm beginning to think there are two solutions (as I'm thinking the vertical 1080 is what I'd like) 1. Two 20-24 in 1080 monitors. 2. 1 29 in ultra wide 1080 monitor. Now I've looked at several people reviewing this particular monitor and I'm leaning toward it. I forgot to mention that one of my requirements is that the monitor(s) be VESA compatible, which this one is. Going the VESA route in either of my solutions, this would be much easier than trying to setup two monitors and I believe less taxing on the video card (which I'm already thinking about putting the new GTX 2080 in as a replacement to the GTX 1080 I'm currently using. Anyway thanks for the review. Great job

Hey really appreciate the detailed comment and glad you liked the review! Ultrawides are great for having lots of "stuff" open such as OBS and the like. I do some streaming (on another channel) with my setup and it works great for that. This 29 inch is now my secondary display as I grabbed a 38 inch 3840 x 1600 display from Acer, loving it so far (review to come within a month or so). Also, just to note, I would say wait for review before even considering the RTX 2080, we can all hope they are good, but we won't know for a few more weeks at least. It could end up that the 20 series isn't much faster than the 10 series but just costs a lot more due to being a massive die size and all the RTX stuff that's been added. If that is the case, I would recommend grabbing a 1080ti before they run out of stock (and I imagine if the 20 series performs poorly they will run out real fast). Just something to keep in mind.

IMO external power brick is better. If it fails, you just replace that, if it's in the monitor, it's a PITA.

Yes I actually did, in fact I got it to run over HDMI at 75hz, just had to setup a custom resolution in the NVidia Control Panel, pretty quick and easy to do.

Great work! I’m surprised this channel is this small. I play PUBG on the Xbox S and want to know if the 75 hz Is ideal. Also do you know if it’s a 1ms monitor? And if higher is it noticeable? Thanks!
@WordTech
@WordTech 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, we have been growing. 75hz is fine for the majority of games including FPS (and third person shooters) games like PUBG unless you are playing professionally. As for response time it's not 1ms as it's an IPS panel and IPS panels cannot currently hit that low. It is however only 5ms which is quite low for an IPS panel, and it's not noticeable hardly at all if ever.
