also people love to say how 'louis is a flop' but he is literally on his world tour right now, breaking guinness world records and his fanbase is so dedicated and loyal. it was also not his fault that he released his solo album much later than harry and niall and he has had so many set backs due to losses in his family yet was still able to produce an album that fans love, that was not for the radio therefore many call it a flop.

I think the difference between Liam and the other guys, and the reason why he never really got as much success despite his potential, is that Liam has no clue who he is. He's constantly changing his style and the music he makes because he has no identity outside of 1D. What he said about Simon promising him to be famous and lead the band makes sense in that everything was planned. He had all these things planned for him on who he was supposed to be that he never had to take the time to figure out what he actually wanted to do. The other guys seemed to have figure that out, and took time before releasing their music and other projects to decide which genre of music they want to make and how they want to present themselves. Liam rushed to bring out music thinking that that was what people wanted. He's done songs for different movies but they never even seem to reach more that 5 million views on KZbin. He just isn't consistent. Their was no passion or love in anything he's done so far. Louis' on tour right now and from the videos I've seen from him he seems to be 100% enjoying every second of his time on stage because hes creating something he's in love with. It's the same thing Niall and Harry. They seem to wholeheartedly love what they do. Liam is struggling to even pretend he wants to be there. All the dancing and him being shirtless is just so much with no real reason or happiness behind it. I think instead of focusing solely on music, he should maybe going into voice acting or something since he frequently changes his accent. He needs to take a break from music and find himself because the road he's going down is leaving him with no legacy in the next few years.

I do believe that Liam has always tied his success to another person or entity; like, yes he and Louis were a power team in writing songs together for One Direction, but he never really branched out with the other boys or wrote with other artists even when the band was together. That is probably the reason why he is reaching out to other, younger artists, because they are looking to network and build more interpersonal industry connections like he is, since he didn't do so when he was actively writing. Cowell and other Syco officials did seem to dote on him A LOT in the beginning of his career, and objectively speaking he was the most well rounded, stably trained, powerful voice out of the group. Anyone else thinking of the Gifted and Talented Program, and how that screwed over so many kids when they hit high school? Same thing applies, just now throw in a couple thousand dollars, alcohol, and a loss of privacy. That being said: management, the label, and media painted him as a responsible, father like figure and that may be true now as well as then, but he was still just a teenager trying to figure himself out. The man is pretty much a child at heart if you watch any interview or fan interaction. Not to mention that his ambition and drive, work ethic and (dare I say) people pleaser complex was unconsciously cultivated and flourished during the 1D days. This may be a theory, or a crazy delusion of mine (because- let's be fair, this is all speculation, I don't know the guy nor his dealings in or out of this industry) but I believe that Liam's label and management still reign heavily over his career. Louis always fought back in terms of getting the entire band a voice and to enable them to make the music they wanted, to an extent of course (Zayn). Liam doesn't have a Louis in his corner in the studio anymore. The TWO multi song EPs that Liam released had zero marketing, zero coverage, and thusly gained zero traction. He later said in an interview with a magazine (one of which featured his rather risqué photoshoot something that he later stated that he really didn't want to do) that he released those EPs full intending to make an album out of them but had felt that the sound wasn't quite him anymore. I don't know about anyone else, but those songs sounded just like HIM- a sound that he may have started with Louis during 1D, but definitely something that had his melodic signature, lyrical flow, all the things that I have come to expect out of a Liam Payne song. And then LP1 comes out and it's...different. I still loved the album, and it was a fun thing to listen to, but it did seem safe and media power washed- kind of like Up All Night was for One Direction. Songs like Midnight, and All I Want (for Christmas) feel more authentic to me (quick side note: All I Want is the one song on the ENTIRE LP1 album that utilized his lower register and his ability to drastically change vocal tones, a deep gravely belt to a clear Broadway level tenor high note- something that he was been able to do since his teens, which is why I believe it was regulated to a bonus track position, because it did not fit the near constant falsetto pitch of the rest of the songs) and those were both songs in which Liam had already had a pre-established professional relationship with when he wrote them, rather than the writers and lyricists that his LABEL introduced and prompted him to work with during LP1. Which if you notice, lyrically the songs don't match him as a person (in my biased, idiot opinion) and resemble the image that the media is trying to push: a shirtless, macho man with a debut album filled with songs about untoward subjects and little narrative variety. I might be crazy, I might be too invested in all this, but I have a passion for music, and it pains me to hear something that I think the artist didn't fully get behind creatively or utilize the full powerhouse they have in their artistic arsenal. I still love his album, and I wish him the best of luck and love in creating his next one. But if he isn't enjoying it, or if the label or management or whomever is trying to influence his voice in any way, shape or form, I can only hope he finds the strength to step back and create what he wants, the opinion of the world be damned.

@@graylady3633 Ur comment is far too long for me to read, but I read the last paragraph. I do think that Liam’s claims that Simon saying he’d build a boy band around him aren’t truly false bc if you pay attention to the rollout of 1D’s debut album the frontman are Liam, Harry, and Zayn. Eventually the GP would decide in 2012-2013 that they liked Zayn & Harry (especially) more than Liam so he was pushed to the back and Harry was made the “face” and “leader” of the group, and Zayn got all the good singing parts. Liam is clearly confused on his legacy in the music industry. He was just a somewhat talented member of one of the most popular boy bands in the world but that’s it. His solo career was not one many of us where checking for because while in 1D he wasn’t all that interesting.

the reality is they were formed as a group because they each could not have made it as solo artists in 2010 - they all lacked in one way or another - Liam was put in the group because he had the most stable vocals but the importance of that diminishes over time as everyone got vocal coaching and improved and so when you have other members of the group who have more interesting personalities and voices, have a better understanding of themselves musically, and is still able to appeal to the 1d fanbase (1d whilst a pop band did draw a lot of rock influences) of course it makes sense that Liam hasn't succeeded as much as some other members. as for personal favourite solo careers mine is definitely Niall - I love his discography, I like his personality and whilst I do love his career the most so far I still see a lot more potential in him as well

Harry has made an impact with the style of music and fashion, because nobody expected it. niall makes music that is very similar to one direction so he plays safe, so if you liked the group's music you will like niall's (and he is very down to earth) Zayn is not interested in being a big musician, therefore his music lately is not mainstream and there will always be a small fanbase that likes that. and i think the same thing is happening with Louis. liam is very..... what you will expect of a "basic straight guy" there is nothing that attracts, nothing interested and also his obsession with one direction is just...

Harry is just another level.you know he is gonna be next superstar. Niall's solo career is definitely very good with sold out world tours but still is criminally underrated. Louis' solo career is very good too.its not mainstream pop, it's like indie- pop Rock.he has a very good album and sold out world tour. Zayn's solo career was pretty good at first because he did some promotion but i think he is just over the phase of getting popularity and media and just wants to stay private and make music.his music is dope tho. Liam is just all Payne right now.his album sounds like some random poppy songs thrown together.

Louis' debut was released later in his career and didn't get much promotion, and it was a tough time in his life due to losses in his family. His album wasn't huge but it was still liked and respected by his loyal fanbase because he's an understanding and lovely person. Liam may have outsold him but LP1 was nowhere near groundbreaking or original, and he's massively egotistical about it. It's been about month since he died. The best thing I can say about Liam is that he wasn't truly a bad person, and he seemed a lot nicer in comparison to a lot of others in his position. He really got on my nerves in the last ~ 2 years of his life but looking back he was obviously hurting enough without tabloids honing in on him too, so I'm glad I didn't participate in it at the time. I knew as soon as STD (yikes) dropped that he wasn't going to prosper, he obviously had no confidence and his first LP ended up being such a mash of every mid to late 2010s trend that it just turned into flavourless mush. It says a lot that he didn't even have one emotional song that he poured his heart into for the radio to play when he died, they played Night Changes. It doesn't matter if he had individual talent, I've seen people with incredible talent and confidence busking on the street, they just never had the money. Liam had money and talent but no confidence.

As a group of solo artists from a boy band One Direction have been unusually successful. Harry has been the most successful because he's crafted a striking image/brand and made music that is off-beat and distinctive. Niall I would say is the next most successful of the five because he actually writes the best songs and is quite motivated. I'm sure Niall is looking at Harry and is thinking how can I make a better album than Harry's House. I'll give the next position to Zayn as he has put out a lot of music much of which is quite interesting. Zayn just doesn't do the music business and has squandered his talent. Even a few tv appearances and concerts would have had Zayn competing up there with Harry. Louis should really be in position three for success because his album is way better than the critics want you to think. I think it's still early days for Louis as he is a strong songwriter, is doing amazing on his world tour, and is a very smart and honest artist. His authentic nature is a real plus in his musical potential. In last place despite having one of the best voices is Liam. Liam went for the hit sound and only had a few hit singles because he is not in his music. It's a plastic performance to be successful. Liam needs to realize he is the British Michael Buble and put out a perfect album of adult music and watch his success sore. A One Direction reunion only gets more interesting with the solo journey of each member.
@Alittleb1tter2 жыл бұрын
This is spot on with my thoughts- especially with regards to Niall and Harry. Niall is the best songwriter and I think he's got greater creations up his sleeves. He's relentless in honing his craft. Fully anticipating for him to gain more accolades and acclaim in the future, whether that be as a solo artist or writing for other artists. Harry is the one with the alluring persona and charm, that even when the music doesn't immediately grab me, it still adds to the intrigue that is 'Harry'- if that makes sense, lol.

Yes, I thought Liam would've done much better with an adult sound instead of a pop or R & B sound because he does have the voice to carry it off. The 50 Shades song he did with Rita Ora was sooo good. Too bad he couldn't have lived to pursue that sound more.

No offense to Liam Fans but he hasn’t even come close to outselling anyone. I’m saying this frankly cause the numbers speak for themselves. In terms of personal success, Harry has done the most his second album alone proved that. Plus winning a Grammy, (wether you like them or not) places him with no room for debate at the top of most successful. The rest are a toss up, Zayn is the second most successful if you ask me but with his lack of promotion for his music the numbers aren’t as good as they could be. (Also I believe if he didn’t snub then Grammys he would have one). I personally put Liam last in terms of comparable success or accomplishments. Other than strip that down which is mediocre at best he hasn’t done anything and I most certainly don’t see him. “Being the front runner or leader of the band.” But honestly this is just my opinion on the matter. You don’t have to agree but facts are facts and those are undeniable. Liam has accomplished little to nothing compared to his time in One Direction. If you ask me he never will 😕😕.

I’ve been a fan of the boys since the very beginning and love each and every one of them equally for their talents and different personalities but I personally disliked the path Liam was taking in his solo career. I felt like all the other boys were either experimenting with different genres aka Niall who went down the path of almost country pop, Louis who went down the path of almost being influenced by pop rock but knew he wanted to use his experience of grief throughout his music, Harry also pop rock however experimenting with different decades and zayn who went down the path of R&B. However with Liam I personally felt he wanted to to try and keep it safe and followed the same path as 1D or Justin Bieber and as a result did not work for him. I mean it’s completely fine he wanted to follow down the path because it was his first time stepping out into the solo career and he wasn’t used to that environment but I just felt it was restrictive and he wasn’t able to demonstrate his creative side. We have all clearly seen he can be a great song writer but let’s hope his next able does him the actual justice he truly deserved.

This video described my opinion on Liam best - career wise. His album really felt void of personality and generic. For a sophomore or junior album, I could see that happening for LP1 but for your debut solo album, this was (no pun intended) the wrong direction. The production was not special on this, sadly.

i think one major reason liams album flopped so badly was that as soon as it was released, he had a new major controversy that made people not want to buy or support his new album in anyway. I've listened to all their albums at least once except for liam. once i heard the few singles and heard what he was actually writing about, i knew it was gonna be a bad album. despite the album issues, I also don't think he's a very good person. he continuously finds himself dissing his former bandmates in some way or another. so much so that in his most recent controversy, he didn't even mention harry after that major backlash from the last time he insulted him. so in my opinion, that's another reason why I don't think his album did well. my favorites will forever be harry and niall. they are consistently good and are always very respectful of the fans and of the former bandmates. liam had so much potential, but he honestly ruined that for himself
