Definitely get a vet check done, or show these clips to one of the vets at your barn for confirmation before you hire. You can see and hear how off his gate is, particularly in that shot from behind. It could be an easily corrected problem but it could be something that could cost thousands of pounds in rehabilitation. More than you bought him for. Always, always get a vet check done before buying a horse even if you trust the person you’re buying from. Think of it like buying a car. Always check under the hood before you take it home, otherwise you could end up with something that doesn’t run. In this case the running is literal. ❤❤

I have to say Lydia, I fully fully salute you. As someone who has been in the equestrian world for 10+ years having seen it many times I was slightly worried that you would over horse yourself as a first time owner. I am so pleased that you as a rider have been aware of the type of horse you need rather than the one that you want in the long run! It has brought a big smile to my face that you have remained conscious of your ability at the moment and I am so excited to continue following your journey ❤️

I’m only a few minutes in and I already love what you’re saying about buying a horse, particularly your firsts horse. Too many people want to buy a big, flashy, horse, concentrating too much on how the horse looks and performs its transitions etc. The best first horse is one that can complement your riding style and experience levels and can grow your experience alongside developing a lovely, close bond. Exciting journey ahead! One thing I think very serious critical equestrians forget is once upon a time they were a beginner too. They made mistakes, oopsies and most likely in hindsight realisations it's very common they did all of this at a young age (not always) so they forget. Just remember we are all out here trying to do our best for ourselves and our horses and we are all learning. So happy you've got such a great mentor. My only advice is vet check, although Charlie has always been public and open about Colins health, his background etc it was one thing I personally learned the hard way once upon a time ❤ I think he's a great first horse 🐴

I don’t know when Charlie got the horse but it’s sad to think someone would sell their old horse that perhaps they’ve had from young, as you said in their last years to a new environment away from their home, usual comforts, the owners they had bonded to and any other horses. An old horse in their last years should be enjoying their life in their home! Not being sold and ridden constantly. A person wouldn’t sell their old dog, in their last years. I know nothing about horses so perhaps I’ve got it wrong but seems abit cruel to me.

Hi Lydia, I am so glad you have decided to have your very own horse, you have so much to look forward to! I understand you are having Atlas on trial which is so sensible. If you decide to keep him I am sure you know from your lovely coach that you need to have him 5 Stage Vetted to check all is OK with him because if you don’t and he costs more than £6K he will not be insurable over that level. Also any existing conditions will not be insurable. I am so excited for you but to my cost I have let my heart rule my head. Buying a horse is fraught with complications but once you get your forever horse it is the MOST wonderful magical experience!!

That’s all very exciting! Please make sure you get him vetted and x-rayed so that you can get proper health insurance for him. I must say I’m surprised Charlie would want to sell an older horse and move yards, when they’ve just moved recently, it tends to be super stressful for horses. Mine is a super chilled out cob and he got ulcers from moving yards even though he didn’t show any ‘classic’ signs of stress. Hope it all works out for you! x

I finding all this very uncomfortable. As a horse owner so many red flags here. This horse is not right. I would never part with my old boy to (no offence meant) someone inexperienced. I wouldn’t want to put a loyal uncomplaining boy in a situation where his voice couldn’t be heard or understood. And changing his name is just not on is what he’s understood his whole life.
@mmmttt5416 сағат бұрын
Exactly my thoughts. You really need a specific kind of knowledge to assure that the horse is well and to interpret the signs if that’s not the case. He is clearly not in a good condition right now, why isn’t that mentioned? It’s always sunshine and rainbows in these videos.

43:11 Lydia, that “mat” is a polishing cloth. You put your jewellery inside the inner fold and close it. Then you rub polish your metals without getting your fingers tarnished (due to the felt on the outside layer). They are fab!
@lynnseifert549713 сағат бұрын
The cloth that came with your jewelry cleaning kit, is a polishing cloth., an alternative to using the spray and brush. The white cloths are treated with a cleaner which you rub or glide your pieces across ( helpful especially for polishing chains ), then buff with the blue cloths. If you ever misplace the brush, all you need in a soft baby/ toddler’s toothbrush !!
@redlantern3371Сағат бұрын
The cloth you have @43:00 is a jewelry cleaning/polishing cloth. The inner white is made to remove tarnish whereas the outer blue cloth is made to bring the silver to a luster. I have used them as a jewelrymaker for years and they work well, especially on tarnished silver.

There are systems in place so that the animals are taken care of - it is not a personal attack. That horse has pain and people can see that. If you are going to take care of his medical problems great, but people can see the problem and are not wanting to see an animal in distress. If you ride him while he is hurting, he will knock you off and at over 17 hands you will feel it! he is probably letting it go because he is at home with his current owner but when it changes be careful. and get his legs looked at

One more thing Lydia, I bought my beautiful new boy last April due to losing my beautiful mare of 11 years. My new boy is a very big lad, strident and magnificent, his name is Biscuit. Do I like his name? Not too much, he looks like a Major or Captain but he is 15 yrs old so I would never change his name now. If he was a youngster absolutely but not at his age. Colin is Colin. It is such a cute name for a horse. Don’t try to change him, take him for what he is and he is Colin 👌

I think Colin is great. You even said he’s old horse. The best medicine for him is to keep active. Yeah a bit string halt, bit puffy, but he’s happy and looks well. Extremely well for winter. I think you need to give him a fab last home. He deserves that ♥️ some little knowledge people commenting and obviously a vet without equine experience 😂 we always made fun of them at the equine super hospital when I worked there.

Vets "making fun" of other vets hardly seems professional. Just saying.

I adore the name Atlas. His colouring for some reason matches the name perfectly. People saying that he won’t recognise the name Atlas when that seems like it was his first name and Colin became a nickname in later years 💗💗💗 so excited for you Lydia what a beautiful journey ahead of you x

Premier Equine make the best quality Rugs they do a combination of weights and liners for indoor and outdoor rugs. My horses are always so cosy in them. Another alternative but Irish made are Horseware Bucas Rhino rugs which I also love. Good luck on your journey you are giving Atlas a wonderful opportunity in his late years of life which many competitive people would overlook. I’m the latter group too my horses live at home with as much turnout time as daylight allows. They hack out and play in the field living the life 😅

Me and my sister had a 10 year gap from riding and now we’re both in our early 30’s and got back into riding last year as well and it is just the best. We also took the plunge last October and brought our first horse together and he brings us so much joy. So excited for you on your journey! X

I meant to mention on the last video, but here we are... you should try a silicone scar sheet instead of vitamin E oil on your arm. I used them on a kitchen burn last summer and it worked wonders

Angel, I’m happy you have Claudia. I know he will have everything he needs but the most important thing is for you as his mum to show and treat him with love and to be present and experience his retirement. What he needs the most is your love , care , talks and companionship. Once you have that relationship it will be like no other you’ve ever experienced. They listen and they feel you. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Happy new year Lydia and Ali !!!! So excited to watch this gorgeous addition to your lives. Unfortunately, but I’m sure totally expected, the keyboard warriors are out in force pointing out everything that is plainly obvious to normal people. Some of these comments are beyond ridiculous. I’m pretty sure you guys haven’t gotten to where you are in life, by only taking the advice of commenters on social media 😜 Looking forward to watching your plans unfold in 2025.

Giving advise and lots of it is constructive, isn’t being a keyboard warrior. Do you ever have a day off?

I’m so chuffed for you and your new adventure with Atlas/colin! ❤❤❤❤❤ so excited to see you grow with him as well! I’ve got a grey baby and they’re just the best unicorns ❤
