That legalist approach is so disgusting. I live in the UK where the age of consent is 16. However that does not mean that an adult is justified in having sex with a 16yo. After the Prime Minister told a bank clerk that she should be proud to die at her post, she became incredibly critical of how the entire thing was handled, feeling like it was a pissing contest with their lives. The psychologist involved drew some of said criticism, so he invented the idea that she must have fallen in love with her captors in spite of never having performed a single assessment of any of the people once the hostage situation was over. I’m sorry if this gets brought up in the video at some point (outside of the brief mention of legalism) but I just wanna say: as a Canadian, it *really* bothers me how much Lily clings to the age of consent being 16. In Canada the age of consent is 16, yes, but only if the other person in the equation doesn’t hold a position of power over them (teacher, caregiver, etc.). Lily has multiple instances where a character will either be stated or state themselves to be 16, making the manipulative relationship “completely okay”. You could say “well, maybe it’s meant to be a critique on the law in Canada and why it’s so normalized!” But… it isn’t. I’ve never met a single person in my 19 years of living in Ontario who views a 16 y/o as a consenting adult. We have pretty much the same views on sex as the US does. That law is pretty much only in place so that if a 16 y/o and someone a little older fuck around the older person doesn’t spend life in jail for being a bit of a dumbass, not for 30 y/os sleeping with minors. All in all it makes me wonder just how cool Lily is with the idea that a 16 y/o is the baseline of acceptable adultery even though she shit on ToonKritic for saying pretty much the exact same thing about consent laws in the Phillipines.
@whodis2614 Жыл бұрын
@@Sanakudou in the US most states have Romeo and Juliet laws to serve that purpose. Here in Texas, the age of consent is 17 (but they can't date 19+,) but 14-16 year-olds can be in sexual relationships without it being illegal. However, there's a catch. Those in the relationship can not be more than 3 years older than their partner, so 14 can't date 18, 15 can't date 19, etc. Also, if one partner was a registered sex offender at the time the relationship started, it obviously would not be protected. If the relationship is not protected, the older partner can be charged with statutory rape. Most people just stick to the age of majority of 18. (Age of majority is when a person legally becomes an adult, i.e. sexy selfies are no longer classified as CP, parents aren't required for legal decisions, etc.)
@aralornwolf3140 Жыл бұрын
Age of consent in Canada is more flexible than that... and more restrictive. If you are 16, you can't have a relationship with a person over the age of 20, I think it is. Children under 16 can have sex, with children within 2 years of their own age. Furthermore, any relationship where one person is in a position of trust, power, or authority over the other _is_ illegal... so... Lots of restrictions, yet it attempts to strike a balance between permitting children to explore their sexuality while also protecting the children from abuse relationships, even if the child in question can't recognize that they are _in_ an abusive relationship.
@guytrashgurtdog Жыл бұрын

So my guess is that she'd be cool with Humbert abusing Lolita, as Lo didn't leave the second she was hurt and therefore "enjoyed it", by Lily's logic.

Oh wow, as someone who was around for all of this but never read the fic, this is mindshattering. When I left her "fandom" it was common fucking knowledge that Lily wrote a fic with Nintendo gal called Stockholm that portrayed Rainbow Dash as a pedophile. But the story I heard was that it contained pedophilia as a subject matter and condemned it, that she had disavowed the fic due to it handling the subject matter poorly and deleted it. She said on MULTIPLE occasions "I wrote a fic where a pedophile was dragged out of a car and beaten" (it was clear from context that she was talking about Stockholm) as a way of proving that she was staunchly against pedophiles. And I trusted her on that because "everyone has an edgy phase they'd rather forget about " and she had (to my knowledge at the time) been honest about being problematic in the past. I thought it must've been bad but I never thought it was anything like this. Scars was also written WAY later. She was posting about it all the time as she wrote it. She was posting ALL OF THIS openly. And we fucking remembered it because she would yell at you if you ever asked her questions she had already given the answers for. She made her audience memorize everything about her. Why does she think she can just fucking lie all of a sudden? I'm only half way through the video but I'm already speechless.

It's a fairly common tactic child predators use, inserting themselves into children's spaces claiming to be a "protector". Reminds me of a local predator who ran security at a few of the local sci-fi and fantasy conventions. 8:49 whats interesting is that in the actual show, specifically in one of its first episodes. The show give us a lesson completely contrary to this lesson from the fanfic, in the episode I talk about the character of rainbow dash introduces to her friends some other friend she has called Gilda, while Gilda is good with rainbow dash… with everyone else she is a complete asshole. When rainbow dash realizes this she puts her foot down and makes clear that she isn’t going to tolerate someone bullying her friends, even if comes from another friend, another friend who was shown to be nothing more than a bully. This is interesting because rainbow was never victim of Gilda bullying but instead her friends, but rainbow dash still made clear that she wasn’t going to tolerate such thing and ends her friendship with Gilda right there. Meanwhile the lesson given in lily little fanfic is pretty much to enable bad behavior and to keep close to toxic people or else you would be a bad friend.

Lily is basically just using Rainbow Dash as a mask to hide herself and her true feelings. People usually do this in "fanfics" like these, where they use characters as a scapegoat so *you hate the character themselves, and not the person who is actually like this, writing their ideologies and then slapping a fictional character onto them.* This is completely intentional on their part, I’m glad people aren’t falling for it and just calling Lily out themselves. (Let it be known that this is also a tactic so that when people see that character, they may associate it with them. Don’t fall for this trap and don’t associate the character with the story, as the creator wants attention for their beliefs and will use any innocent or upstanding character to do so.)

And also add to the fact that Rainbow Dash would NEVER do anything in that “story”. I think this might explain why Lily conveniently ignores the fact that Lapis tried to fly away from Jasper before Jasper grabs her and holds her down in the scene when they fused
@Pinkupop76 ай бұрын
Tbh I only agreed with half of her points there. Like how the story is made to make u see lapis as a victim who did no wrong. But forgets it set up a base for 1 lapis to be an abuser 2 jaspers to be an abuser 3 for both of them to be victims. While her labeling lapis as an evil heartless abuser was a bit unfair. But I did notice this is how the fandom views jasper. When the roles r switched ppl quickly realize how unfair that is to think. Which I wish ppl could do the same for jasper. Just hold them BOTH accountable. Jasper tried to manipulate lapis to fuse to defeat the Chrystal gems. Lapis pretends to give in then traps jasper in a fusion for 2 months giving them both Stockholm syndrome. The show sets the plot for both to be abusers and victims. Tbh lapis doe play the bigger role in the abuse regarding the relationship itself since the manipulation stuff from jasper is prior to actually fusing. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t wrong. Abuse is abuse. Tho it isn’t the fandoms fault for seeing lapis as a poor helpless victim because the show portrays it that way too. Lapis never faces consequences for it and even Steven himself sweeps it under the rug never bringing it up. No one does. Even in SU future in lapis’s sing she says “that mirror was a prison, and fusion was the same” but it was lapis who made the fusion a prison in the first place? Yes I understand a lot of the times the abused end up abusing other ppl but when u somehow make lapis the victim in a situation where she clearly abused someone it’s just, I don’t even know what to call it. Lazy writing? Favoritism? WHO KNOWS.. lapis says it herself she was wrong to jasper and their relationship was terrible. But then that’s the end. In earthling jasper’s says “why does no one I fuse with ever want to stay?” Showing she doesn’t understand lapis’s decision was better for both of them. It’s sad. But that’s the end of it because they decide to just corrupt her instead of giving her an arc. They try to rush one in future shown in so ep1 buts it’s ruined because she’s later used as a scapegoat for Steven do kill someone. Steven murdered someone . OH but it’s ok cus it’s jasper. After shattering her and leaving her with more trauma Steven gives up on her basically and continues his life. Throughout the story the Chrystal gems never do anything to change her mind abt them so no wonder jasper stays a villian. Lily does address something abc lapis I never noticed. Her bad writing. She is abused then becomes an abuser which is handled poorly. She has an arc(kinda) abt recovering from her abuse but never being an abuser. The way lapis unintentionally hurts peridot because peridot feels a need to make her happy constantly due to what lapis’s been through. Scared to tell her no. The only consequences lapis gets is, Nothing. Peridot doesn’t even say anything abt it when lapis is back. The skip to future doesn’t help as well. The lapidot duo is never faced with a situation like that which tells us whether or not they have worked on that part of their relationship. ….so basically I’m agreeing with u. Kinda. I just don’t like how hypocritical the fandom can be when it comes to their relationship.

People don’t seem to realize how much content like this traumatized minors like me back during the days of MLP Gen 4. I ended up reading a different one shot fic where the cmc were raped by I think Applejack’s older brother? They weren’t aged up and I think it involved gore too. Maybe murder, but idk. (looking it up, the fanfic was called the sweet Apple massacre) Idk, that messed me up. I wouldn’t stop thinking about how terrifying it was, how there were adults who would want to do that to kids like me. It, along with many other things I’d encountered, made me feel inherently unsafe in this world. Terrified that every adult could turn on me, that I couldn’t trust anyone to not hurt me, especially in a sexual way. It is through and through a massive crackfic, and it feels like it's own attempts to justify itself ultimately are the most disturbing parts of it, more than any of the non meta actual story. Because it'd be harder to get victims of child sexual abuse and domestic violence to trust her if they knew she'd written a story that glorified those things? Because it's an accusation her critics have frequently made, so by pretending it's not true she can convince her audience to dismiss anything else they say as inaccurate? Because it's on Kiwifarms, so by pretending this information doesn't exist anywhere else she can label anyone who brings it up a transphobe who secretly browses hate sites? I’ve always loved how her argument recently that she didn’t make it is literally just. “I didn’t make it lol”. With no evidence. So scummy to write something like this and then hide it dump all the blame on your co Writer and try to become a martyr against Child abuse.

The very same, and it's interesting that you should mention Lil Miss Rarity on account of one of those non-photographic depictions of child sexual abuse I was talking about throughout the video. Can't say more, though.

I feel like if she had the fic end with Celestial staring at the letter from Twilight and being not only disturbed by the events of the fic but also disturbed by what Twilight had concluded from it all and starting to wonder if she made a mistake by taking Twilight on as her student and making her a princess in the first place. even better if it absolutely has to end with a piece of writing have it be Celestia sending a reply or even revoking Twilight's status as a princess would be a neat ending bc Twilight's letters are, like you said, a summary of the moral.

A lot of toxic people use claims of transphobia or other forms of bigotry to deflect criticism levied against them. It's unfortunately way more common than you'd think, and often makes having reasonable discourse about the person extremely difficult
@juanmanuelmoramontes3883 Жыл бұрын
@@TalenkauenTVTrue, but it's undeniable how true transphobes use cases like this as a reason to discriminate against trans people.
@Flippylover_69 Жыл бұрын
@@TalenkauenTV As a trans person, I agree. The topic of calling out trans people for behavior like this is extremely complicated, but it’s origins lie in bigotry. People have been throwing completely baseless accusations against all trans people as a way to demonize us as a collective for years (a common one you may know is the “all trans people are pedophiles!” claim). As a result, accusations towards individual trans people cause the trans community to get extremely defensive. This defensiveness formed as a way for the community to protect itself against bigotry, however it can also be harmful, and I believe it’s what created the “if you call out a trans person, you’re transphobic!” crowd of people your comment describes. Some trans people absolutely are dangerous and need to be spoken about, but how to go about it is often where discourse occurs. Unless you clarify over 100 times that not every trans person behaves the same way, some bigoted moron will try to use the 1 bad trans person to demonize the collective. It’s sad because it creates a dangerous environment on both sides. People are either going to attack you because they feel you attacked first, or manipulate what you said to appeal to their agenda, which both encourage people to stay silent to avoid the discourse. If we can’t talk about problems, we can’t solve them.

Good instincts. I didn't even know the MLP fandom rabbit hole was this deep, and I'm still trying to process that someone would write a messed up fic in a fandom explicitly aimed at children and teenagers. Gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I’ve been a fan of Lily since her Steven Universe video and I’ve defended her against pretty much everything. I like to think I normally don’t just take KZbinrs at their word when they say someone is lying about them, but I didn’t want to believe she was capable of this stuff, and even if I did, I’m so technologically inept that I wouldn’t have been able to prove anything. I’m really ashamed to say that I was told that someone I admired wrote CP, and instead of investigating it I just took her at her word that she didn’t. It’s embarrassing to realize how stupid I’ve been in regards to her. This was more of a rant than a response lol sorry, I’m kind of reeling here. Thanks for making this video, Idk if I ever would have known if you hadn’t :)

It takes a lot of guts to admit that your in the wrong, I respect you for that, most of Lily’s fans and Lily herself have taken to sweeping all this shit under the rug and that’s really not ok. She should really step away from the internet.

I had no idea about who this person was (not into fandom stuff anymore, have never been a mlp fan) but once youtube reccomended her video about SU and yea, I agree with what she said there. But that's it, we only share some views when it comes to a certain cartoon. It doesn’t mean I support or even know her.

Finally someone addresses how vile lily truly is. She’s given me awful vibes since the beginning. I remember watching their Steven Universe critique video and not being able to sit through it due to the venom and pure aggression the video was full of, I agreed with some of her points in the video and liked and heavily agreed with some of her criticisms on the show itself. but couldn’t stomach the constant yelling and poison I felt like it injected into my mentality and the nauseating gut intuition feeling that something wasn’t right about her, I’ve watched all your videos on the subject and finally understand why I felt so sick to my stomach just hearing her name. Now that I know how much of a toxic predator she is I will be warning anyone I know and steering clear of her and her fanbase.

Engagement comment. It's weird to me how she keeps denying this shit. At least the one crappy fic I wrote I a) never made more than one chapter b) was coerced out of me by toxic sides of fandom and c) hasn't been touched in over 20 years because it was terrible and gross. If she had actually moved on or worked on her issues you'd see her talking about what made her write the fic and how to avoid some of the more toxic part of fandoms, but nope, she uses this shit to lure people in. So glad I never ran in to her when I was younger. Thank you, Ethel and (omg I can't remember your coworker's name I'm so sorry!) for all your hard work on this. This is important stuff to record. I haven't heard about this person at all since she made that anti-steven universe video years ago, and it's... weirdly gratifying to learn that someone who came off as so puritanically critical of creators who were genuinely trying their best is actually a billion times shittier in real life than she accused them of being. It seems like people who find the most fault in others are generally the most at fault themselves, just as a general principle.

this might be a massive reach, but finding out that lily is... Like This, and having had watched her since i was extremely young is. is uh.. dare i say scary ..? i remember watching her when i was what, 9 ? 10 ? and for YEARS, i watched her and loved her content, i remember i made fanart for her in mspaint on the family computer that honestly i wouldnt even be surprised if i still had saved on there. the only reason i couldnt try to reach out to at the very least show her is that i wasnt allowed to have social media accounts, and i wouldn't have really known how to use them anyway. it.... is. i dont even know how to feel about that,, its just. good god. being a csa and grooming survivor on top of it is also just as terrible- will people ever take us seriously ? will people ever care our pain, our trauma, seriously ? will people ever care enough about us to not use our experiences for these horrific, disgusting things ?

Accidentally watched a Lily Orchard video in entirety (I haven't watched one since her SU vid) and she's still so... specific. In the sense that the majority of her video was petty digs at the creator of the game, players, and, of course, an entirely unnecessary dig at the queer community as a whole. It made me feel incredibly strange to see a fellow trans person decry other trans creators as terminally online and making up people to be mad at. The various ad hominim attacks she makes toward the creator of the game and those who enjoyed it also muddied the valid criticisms she was trying to make. Her Steven Universe video did immediately spawn critical thinking in my teen brain, though, by the fact that the points she were trying to make... sucked and didn't make sense. I genuinely hope she grows as a person and creator

She's part of the problem she crusades. Sexualizing a children's show and even if you don't intend for minors to see it, they'll find it, because the source is from a show MADE FOR THEM. Though considering her other actions I wouldn't doubt that she did want minors reading it.
@rookideetrainer1635 Жыл бұрын
It's her shield and her lure; she's putting on the act to lure minors to her by pretending to be safe and it deflects criticism because she can point to the fact that she's openly anti-grooming (while hiding the fact that she's not, behind the curtains) Predators like to pretend to be something good and safe. Even in nature and for an example: A snapping turtle's tongue; it looks like a worm, but as soon at the fish gets close, it bites I believe Ethel talks about being the victim of this kind of predator in a video, but I don't remember which one...
