Parakeets are a LOT different than conures, especially when it comes to intelligence and lifespan. They need a lot more care and attention and the #1 takeaway about owning a bird in general is: If you're going to be a monster and clip their wings, don't get one. Birds need to fly, they're birds! Clipping their wings is a practice that's not only frowned upon, but pretty much not practiced at all by anyone that considers their bird a living thing with needs. Most bird keepers even have a space specifically for their birds to fly and taking that away is like voluntarily handicapping your bird. I don't mean to preach or insinuate anything and I'm by no means an expert, but just wanted that point to be known. If you do ever plan on getting a bird or really any pet, please, please, PLEASE do plenty of research and get to know everything your pet may need and obstacles to avoid and buy from a responsible breeder and not a chain store.

@Morgan Jost no it’s ok to cut a birds wings they will grow back and the reason people cut wings is that so the bird won’t injure its self while flying and so the bird doesn’t fly away out a window

I had never owned any sort of bird until about 2 months ago and now I have 4 chickens. Not even I am 100% sure why chickens ended up being what was chosen, but I have them now and honestly, they are as dim as a faulty light-bulb but really affectionate and just fun to chill with, so I think I made the right choice

Actually I’m glad you didn’t clip the birds wings, it’s like declawing a cat. It horrible. If you don’t want to deal, don’t get the animal. Don’t put it through hell just because you don’t like one of the features it comes with.
