You know, the more I think about the reveal about what was really behind the biological attack on the Supreme Power universe, the less sense it makes. To start, Emil Burbank created the biological weapon to kill Hyperion, but it didn't, he was able to fight through its power loss. And then he pinned the blame on Reed Richards for it using the probe, causing the inter-dimensional brawl. What was his plan to deal with the Marvel heroes once they came to their universe? Was that his plan all along, to get them to kill Hyperion? But that can't be it, because how could he know that universe's heroes were strong enough to do it, and how would he know they exist anyway? And once Hyperion beat them, Supreme Power and the rest of Earth would still be pissed at the alternate dimension for all this. Why would Burbank knock out Reed to stop him from getting the other heroes to stop fighting, he should want them to stop fighting just as much as Reed. Also, Reed says the probe is similar to a spore he's found on other extra-dimensional excursions, but how is that possible if the weapon was actually Burbank's creation and they supposedly didn't have the means for multi-dimensional travel? Reed's comment about making sure that no biological matter could adhere to the probe rules out that Burbank got the spore from the probe in the first place. Or is it just a huge coincidence that Burbank's weapon happens to be genetically similar to the spore? The reveal that the creator of the bio-weapon was actually Burbank and he used Reed as a scapegoat either relies on him having a crapton of knowledge about the Ultimate universe that he shouldn't be able to possess, or a convenient series of coincidences. And all to create and deploy a bio-weapon that didn't even accomplish the thing it was supposed to, and in fact made things worse because it started an inter-dimensional war!

There WERE some good points to the Ultimate Universe... but over time, they got brushed aside and forgotten by creators who toke over for ones who had been in on it from the start. Worst among them was Joeph Loeb. The 616 and 1610 were never meant to be the same, you were supposed to see similarity but recognize them as different straight away. It was NOT meant to be a rerun of what we had already seen. Loeb took over as creative head of 1610 and literally made it the same as the 616. Thor started talking in his all too familiar Shakespeare Patois, costumes started to look the same as the ones from the 616, but the attempt at shock value was still there. Loeb amped that up, added nonsensical M Night Shyamalan style plot twists, and the stories became unreadable. Then, when Loeb had finished breaking his toys, he said "It's too much like the regular Marvel Universe, so there's no point to it, let's shut it down." The guy ended it because he hated what it had become... and he was the one who made it that way. Marvel DID try to salvage some of the good from the 1610, but sometimes it worked, sometimes it failed. I love seeing Miles in the 616, despite some bad writing since Bendis left the book, but bringing over Jimmy "Wolverine Junior" was a mistake... then again, making Jimmy was a mistake. And let's not forget all the influence the 1610 had on the final product that was the MCU. Hawkeye and Natasha being SHIELD agents who were placed on the Avengers, for example, and all the visual cues and details like Samuel L Jackson as Fury. In many ways, the 1610 was hot garbage, but it also had some really great parts that were squandered when Loeb captained it straight into an iceberg.

I'm just disturbed that Ultimate Reboot Supreme Power looks A LOT MORE like The Seven of the Amazon Prime's adaptation of The Boys... Are we sure that The Seven is supposed to be just the Evil Justice League?

Ennis hate too much superheroes to care about the Not Justice League of Marvel, I would say... It's probably just a coincidence.

at the moment in that review i've noticed the "lorem ipsum"i thought that is maybe the clereverest idea all along, Mr Burbank just can remember the headline and not the text body and stuff, but yeah given how much effort was put in all those issues that is more a happy accident

Ah ultimate power such a terrible story that was only made to set up ultimatum which ruined everything and killed the entire ultimate marvel universe which is sad because ultimate marvel universe at its peak was amazing but man oh man after ultimate power and ultimatum came out the entire universe went to hell and never recovered which is sad because the ultimate marvel universe got me into comics, and when that universe died in secret wars 2015 I was sad angry disappointed but I accepted its death at that time and I maintained the only good character we had left in that universe was miles morales ultimate jessica drew aka ultimate Spider-woman and ultimate peter parker and ultimate Mary jane and the rest of the spidey cast and that's about it everybody else not so much they really don't need to comeback at least in my opinion.

What's just kinda sad is that the story works better if the third issue was actually the first. Big shocking event to drive up reader confusion and issue 1 (which is now issue 2 in this AU I just made up) is a flashback to show why. Also, that drop should have killed Johnny even with the bubble. Big drop and a sudden stop.
@matthewsimpson5529 Жыл бұрын
That and issue 1 honestly seem like they were written as a surprise crossover between Ultimate FF and Supreme Power - like, Reed would make the probes in an issue of Ultimate FF, then a month or two later a Supreme Power issue would come out with the biomass, with the reveal of the probe and Ultimate Reed being a big twist. Then you could have had a couple months of the Squadron dealing with the Biomass and trying to find a way to get to the Ultimate Universe leading into the full crossover.

If the story had actually included more OF the Thing in in it, and him trying to grapple with coming across as even LESS human with the whole "pieces come off" thing, and then him trying to pretend it doesn't bother him, not REALLY...only for the final part of the comic to end on him sadly looking at that photo, this story could have been ten times better, because we could have had a proper tale. A tale of somebody trying to find meaning in heroism despite his horrible appearance, only to find not even his great actions, no matter how many worlds he saved, makes him feel like a person. As as he looks upon a reminder of what he used to be, he silently cries alone in his room... We could have had a really touching story of Ben Grimm if they'd just went the extra mile a LITTLE. But they didn't. What a shame. We could have at LEAST had a sad, touching little story that could have made the bad artwork worth getting through. But...we didn't get it. And that's just sad.

You know, I do like how the villain is a fan of Colombus- megalomania, determination, cunning, treachery, and a keen eye for exploitation and conquest. I actually don't mind him giving Colombus the credit. But again, I'm trying to give culture and motivation and depth to an incredibly boring and generic villain. If I saw that in the script of the comic, I'd have Reed go "It was Eratosthenes that learned the world was round- Colombus thought it was shaped like an oval." as his big badass comeback in the next page

One quick critique of these reviews. Considering how weirdly often cannibalism comes up for the human race, it makes sense the "more realistic and darker" version of the Marvel universe brings it up so often, considering how it basically didn't exist beforehand. One can argue Venom, but that's a semantics argument cause it was the symbiote that ate humans, not Eddie.
