I’m not sure that the handsome comment has ever fit. It’s the music that makes people assume he’s handsome. It’s a very common thing. I mean, look at Mick Jagger and David Crosby. I know handsome is a subjective term, and you may hold the opinion that Lionel is in fact handsome.

I think Prince just wanted to his own thing and that's why he gave his own song, 4 The Tears In Your Eyes (he actually sent Sheila E. to the We Are The World recording in his place). It's pretty terrible how the media depicted him as too arrogant or whatever for declining to do it though... But if you listen to Hello (the Prince song), I think that was his answer to the whole We Are the World thing

@behavioristbusiness7372
@behavioristbusiness7372 9 ай бұрын
@@meylinhernandez461 He didn't say it publicly. Plus, Prince was a massive Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles Fan and did say so publicly. (performing with Stevie on numerous occasions starting in the mid-90's, recording a guitar solo on one of his songs, spending almost an entire speech while accepting an award from Stevie talking about how much he loved stevie and Songs in the Key of Life, modeling his piano playing style off of ray charles for his last tour and admitting that was what he was doing.) Prince also publicly stated respect for Bruce Springsteen for how he led his band, stated publicly that he was a fan of Journey and their guitarist (Steve Perry was there), publicly talked about his love of Tina Turner music, called MJ a genius, said lovely things about Cyndi Lauper and invited her on stage to sing at one of his concerts. He even wrote a song for Kenny Rogers (which Kenny did)....also, Lindsay Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac was there. FM is a band Prince had frequently stated he was a big fan of. Mentioned respect for Smokey Robinson. So he probably was just saving face to his associates when he said that crack you were referring to, but they (Wendy, I believe) thought it made for a good story so told it. Prince publicly stated he thought he would clam up around all those people. It is possible he said both, but his obvious affection for the music of many of the people there makes me inclined to think that he was saving face in front of his employees with that comment.

@Alex Murray I would say Michael was more of the phenomenon because I grew up in the 2000's, can tell you 10 MJ songs off the top of my head (because there everywhere) but can only tell you 2 Prince song's that I've never really heard. Michael enabled black artist to showcase their songs and videos on MTV and was one of the most charitable ppl in the world. That's a phenomenon someone who ppl of any age and nationality can easily recognize their greatness. They're both legendary artist. No need to bring down one for the other. What you did was just show your insecurity in your preferred choice.

@@garfieldharrison510 💜 What's funny is that was also the night of the Grammy Awards, 1995. The recording for the We Are The World song was being done after the award ceremony. The media knew Prince wasn't going to be there so they started ripping into him early. That's why after the award show was over one of Prince's managers pleaded with him not to go out that night and just to stay in the hotel room and celebrate his wins. The manager knew the media would spin it to look like Prince didn't care about starving people. After his manager left Prince got that look in his eyes and said LET GO PARTY! Are something like that, lol. I don't think Prince regretted going out that night and I don't think he regreted that he wasn't performing on the We Are The World song either. He had another chance to sing the song at an award show in the early 90's live on stage. He was on stage but he didn't sing a word... he was too busy sucking on his Tootsie Roll Pop, LOL.🍭🍭🍭
