Every year for school I'd get a whole armful of Lisa Frank folders, usually with horses on them because i was fucking OBSESSED with horses (still sort of am, since horses are my favorite animal ever.) every time id get one of those pretty unicorn folders, id spend half the class just staring at it, imagining myself in the technicolor world. In high school, i wore a lisa frank inspired outfit, not like, actually lisa frank branded clothes, just sort of colorfully vibrant clothes, and i got bullied so hard for it, my emo/goth phase started the very next day. I wish i was kidding. Me getting bullied for lisa frank inspired clothes directly led to my emo phase.

As a 90's girl born to teenage parents (and thus poor but yet my parents were still able to buy a fucking house as teenagers with twins), my sister and I were allowed to get *one* Lisa Frank folder each. This folder had to last at least three years because we coudn't afford another one. $0.25 folders for the rest of the required folders for classes. I think I had the two dalmatians one where they had different colored rainbow spots? My sister, however, had the one of a full leopard face that I will never forget. Our first year with these folders we were seen as the cool kids, but the next year we were poor nerds who couldn't afford a new folder. Good times, the 90's. Edit- It wasn't the dalmatians. Rainbows, sparkles, glitter, holograms, and adorable animals. That was Lisa Frank--yeah, I got caught up in it. I grew up during the HEIGHT of Lisa Frank, and my family didn't have the most disposable income so I treasured everything that my mom let me have that was Lisa Frank--mostly folders and notebooks, as they were the cheapest. One of my favorite hobbies was going into Staples or Office Depot and just browsing and looking at the Lisa Frank sections--yes, they had those when she was big. I actually had no idea what the actual Lisa Frank looked like until this video, because by the time I grew out of that phase, the internet still wasn't commonplace and by the time it was, I didn't give Lisa Frank a second thought. I'm not surprised that there was some unsavory shenanigans going on behind the scenes--that's pretty par for the course these days. But I still appreciate what it did for me, and I appreciate those moments of joy she gave me.

Speaking as one who was a girl who didn't have any of the Lisa Frank stuff in it's heyday, it started me on the concept of not caring what others thought about me.

I grew up in Tucson Arizona. My sister actually had Forrest Green as a classmate a LONG time ago. Always heard some stories about some of this but I was too young when the products were popular. Crazy to hear all the details and I can’t wait to share this with my sister.

9:10 When I was a kid in school they handed out those “cool kids don’t do drugs” pencils and everyone I knew would sharpen it until it said “do drugs” Then the teachers had to go around and take them from everyone. The rule was once it just said “don’t do drugs” is when it was to be thrown away. No one threw them away

In regards to your question at 5:55, The term "being anal" goes back to Freudian psychoanalysis, where the personality trait was supposed to have originated during the "anal phase" of infants. The more you know.
