What hurts my soul is that there will be kids who will never see the original and instead see this movie. Also the fact some will defend this by saying they want to relive the original. Just watch the original! Seriously, it’s not like they didn’t exist. All in all, I plan to rewatch the original today and remember that great film.

Any decent parents will show their kids the original first. That's why the new Star Wars movies and Trek movies didn't do as well as Disney thought they would - they decided a new generation needed new movies and would be an untapped audience, not realizing that most of those "new" audience members grew up watching the originals with their parents and that shaped their taste and their expectation of what a sequel should be.

I think the change that upsets me the most is that Eric doesn’t save Ariel like he does in the original. Because Triton goes on for the entire film about how all humans are dangerous. And while his prejudice is justified, it’s still wrong. Here you have a human actively risking his life to save his daughter and proves Triton’s point wrong. And so, what better way to prove to Triton that Ariel will be happy than letting her go be with man who proved him wrong about humans? It’s a massive piece of character development for Triton that’s completely erased by removing Eric’s bravery. The story of the original movie was never about a woman giving up everything for a man. It was about a father and daughter learning how to accept each other and about said father learning that he has to let his daughter be free to make her own decisions. By removing this aspect, you remove a key aspect of Triton’s acceptance of his daughter going to be with Eric.

Everything about this movie in my eyes was dead on arrival from the get-go. Race swapping controversy, critic and media slandering of audience's critiques, changing story elements for "modern sensibilities", changing lyrics to iconic songs for no reason, changing the ethnicities of characters which only raises more questions about Triton's potential infidelity, changing the ending of the story for some girl boss message and ruining the original message of the movie to satiate the actors and Disney egos. Gee I wonder why this movie isn't set to do well at the box office. If you ask me, if outside factors surrounding a piece of media are more interesting than the piece of media itself, that's how you know it's going to suck.

The implications of different ethnicity with King Triton daughters are, either he clapped a lot of very different mermaid tail, or, if he only had one wife, she went around.... A lot. He got other daughters representing the seven seas, and since the setting for the original little mermaid movie makes more sense to have taken place in a warm climate (calypso music, palace architecture, trees, and sabastian’s accent), it makes total sense why triton might’ve got down with a black mermaid n created a black Ariel. Also, we don’t even see Eric’s parents in the original, so the story they give him in this movie is plausible. Also, Javier bardem is Spanish from the Canary Islands, off the coast of northeast Africa. Him n a black mermaid could absolutely have made a brown skinned Ariel

Ok hear me out. Recently this idea just hit me...what if Disney just went ALL IN with what they did for Maleficent's way of story telling and made prequels and stories BASED on the classic animated movies... BUT from DIFFERENT perspectives, allowing us brand NEW stories and songs. And most importantly not TAINTING their older stuff I mean theres A LOT we dont know about the classics that lore couldve been added too: ●How did Ariel's mother die? Who did it? What type of Woman was she? ●How did the BEAST become the beast and who did it? ●Who trapped Genie in that lamp for 10,000 years and was he possibly a human before like Jafaar? Did he actually bring someone back to life and was horrified by his own godlike power? ●A Story of 2 Lion Brothers and we see how Scaar and Mufasa were raised? Etc etc. Idk I'm just spitballing and pretty much came up with this on the spot. I mean its not like Disney didnt make Prequels and Sequels for A LOT of their classic animated films anyway. Cinderalla has 2 sequels, Little Mermaid has a Sequel AND Prequel, hell the prequel came out in 2008 so its not THAT old And Lion King has a Sequel as well. So why not fill in some of the other blanks just saying🤔🤷‍♂️. Like HELL lets slap it all together and make it an interconnected universe or something😂. Have the Kings, Queens and Witches travel through different kingdoms as easter eggs Personally I'm interested in the magic lore. Like where does it come from in the Disney Universe? Are all these witches in a coven that just choose to prey on innocent Princesses? Did something happen between the Kingdoms and the Witches that made them so hell bent on controlling the Kingdom or its absolute destruction? Or are they just that wicked and evil pieces of 💩?😂🤷‍♂️ Not sure if they already did that or not but the world is vast enough for ALL the Princesses and Princes to live on the same place. Wait a minute Descendants kinda did that already💀

@@FlowerItzel18 I worked with Chloe on "If I Stay" few years back. She was supposed to play cello, and did receive training for the role, but it just didn't look believable. She wasn't selling it. So, the studio hired a professional musician body double. Not a problem. When it comes to characters singing on screen - voice doubles are often utilized. It's common practice, since actors can't be expected to just be magically good at everything. Chloe would've been perfect for the Mermaid, even if she didn't sing.

First they came for M.J. Watson, the girl next door and we barely noticed, then they came for Kari Kelly in Gotham Knights and we shrugged and did nothing. Then they came for ARIEL and still we watched, oblivious... and when they came for ME... there were no REDHEADS LEFT TO DEFEND ME. P.S. Sabrina Lynn would make a MUCH BETTER M.J. WATSON.

She acts reasonably well when she's interacting with Eric. But when she's alone, there's a lot of blank stares. A pro actor will always think about the context of the shot, about what just happened to the character a moment ago and what they're seeing now, and based on that the actor will dream up some kind of mental process that's happening in the character's mind during the shot. And then, in front of camera they will act it out. They put something behind the eyes for us to see.
