I just fell down an aloe rabbit hole I’m glad I found this video. I struggle with cystic acne prone sensitive skin, so I have to use gel moisturizers. In my house we used to have it in our meal too my grandma used to prepare as aloe Vera salad . She cleaned with cold water . Is really good even by its own it doesn’t have a need taste more than fresh

I did the first method and my aloe vera came out whiter. Plus her aloevera is more watery as I observe when she's adding the preservative and the xanthun gum mix. There's definitely a missed step here. I would add distilled water to make aloe vera a bit watery. N if you don't blend with a blade but do the way she did using a mortar to grind the aloe vera before filtering through the cheese cloth, your mixture will be less whiter. Can you use citric acid (lemon juice) as a preservative? Can you use gelatin as a thickener and get the benefits of collagen along with the Aloe Vera?

Citric acid is not a preservative! It will change the pH of the product which will reduce the growth rate of bacteria but it will not prevent bacterial growth. There is a lot of fear mongering with preservatives. Do your research and find a natural and clinically proven preservative that works for you or keep your product in the fridge. Lemon will also be harsh on hair and skin. As for gelatin, I'm reading you should use twice as much as xantham gum, but I would be worried about the heat from gelatin killing some of the aloes nutrient content. Worth a try !

Chemistry requires computing formulation by weight to ensure accuracy especially when using preservatives so a weighing scale is essential. If anyone is serious in doing this they should get a weighing scale. No teaspoons or cups. This isn't a kitchen recipe.

Geogard is preservative for water-based products. It is not optional. It's also sold under another name: preservative eco. If you can't find it, look up natural and synthetic preservatives for cosmetics and see which are available where you live.

Zinc sulfate or any liquid zinc has also preservative like qualities as does honey. Maybe that would be something to look into?

The gel will only last for 7 days in the refrigerator so u have to use a preservative
