How do you differentiate naps from bedtime? Also, the wake windows seem so much longer than my baby stays awake for, what do I do about that? Thank you in advance
@littleonesbabysleep3 жыл бұрын
We recommend following the same routine for naps and bedtime. So they know sleep time means sleep, regardless of the time of day :) When it comes to a baby’s age-specific sleep needs, babies don’t differ on a massive scale. That said, some babies do certainly need a bit more or less sleep than other babies their age, so our Sleeping and Feeding Schedules are designed around the MAXIMUM times. For example we give you the maximum awake time, the time by which all babies that age will be overtired and need to be in bed by - this means if your baby needs a bit less awake time and/or a bit more sleep, you’re able to work inside of that window to cater to your baby’s particular needs. We provide you with all the information to know when your baby’s sleep needs are changing, for example when they might start needing more awake time or slightly less day sleep.

My baby usually sleeps at midnight at around 01.am. and wakes at 10.a.m, During the day sleep is limited to half an hour maximum on smaller intervals. Does this amount of sleep enough for a six month baby. How do I make my baby fall sleep early in the night.
@littleonesbabysleep3 жыл бұрын
Hi Thariq, We would recommend around 12 hours overnight sleep (allowing for feeds if required) and 2.5hrs day time sleep across 2-3 naps. Ideally at 6 months you'd aim for a shorter morning nap, a long 2hr lunch time nap and a wee power nap to get through to bedtime. To help your baby go to sleep earlier you may need to start waking your baby earlier in the day to aim for a more 7-7 / 8-8 day. If your baby isn't sleeping until midnight though you'll likely want to take that transition slowly and start waking at 9:30am for a week and aiming for 9:30 bedtime, then 9am start, 9pm bed for a week etc until you are where you want to be. If your little one is waking very frequently, you might need to look at how they are falling asleep - Are they relying on some help from you? If yes, self-settling is a good thing to approach to help encourage more independent sleep. Our Program can certainly help you here with some age appropriate awake windows, nap times and self settling approaches. www.littleones.co/products/ultimate-sleep-nutrition-program

Will this programme work for my 2 month old baby? Is it too soon to sleep train her? I am already using a dark room, white noise and swaddling her however shes only nappy for 45 minutes!
@littleonesbabysleep4 жыл бұрын
Hi Foziya, absolutely our Program can help you. At this age it's not so much about the need to sleep train, it's all about setting up good sleep habits however if you've got all the good habits in place and your LO is still catnapping it might be a case of adjusting awake times to help your LO sleep better. Our Program can definitely help you see improvements.

I don't understand if my baby is overtired or undertired..she is 3.5months old..she is catsleeping thorough out the day..she is formula feeding baby..how can i manage her feeding and awake windows as she has been nursing every two hours..plz help..it's so frustrating situation..i am raising her alone..i have no one to help me
@littleonesbabysleep2 жыл бұрын
Catnapping is very common at this age and there are a number of things that can contribute to it but under tiredness is one of the main causes. Around the 1-1.5hr mark babies do have a natural dip in energy where they can show tired signs or even fall asleep but generally won’t be tired enough to sleep more than one cycle. At 3.5 months we would be aiming for 2 hours + 10 mins of awake time between naps and bedtime. Usually a change in nappy/activity/scenery can help to push them through that dip and stay awake a little longer. You can also work on gradually extending their awake time by 5 mins every few days so that they have time to adjust :)

What if my babys wake window is not long enough? My baby is 4 months and is tired after 60min already.
@littleonesbabysleep4 жыл бұрын
Hi Trey, babies often have a natural dip in energy around the 1 - 1.5 hrs of being awake. If you change activity, change of scenery, some fresh air or nappy free time should see your baby a little longer bit just work in extending awake times slowly.5 mins every few days.

@@littleonesbabysleep should I work on this before I continue with my settling method? Everytime I put her down to sleep, she fights it. But if I put her down SUPER early, she's fine
@littleonesbabysleep4 жыл бұрын
I would ensure you've got her awake times spot on before working on self settling. And under or overtired baby will find it really difficult to learn to self settle.

Your videos are really helpful! I’m having such a hard time with my 9 month olds sleep and have tried many forms of sleep training but am still having wake ups every 2 hours at night. How do I tell if my baby if over tired or under tired since they’re so similar. He currently has wake windows between 2 hour 45 min and 3 hours 15 min I have implemented many of your suggestions but am still finding him waking up very often! Please help! Thank you!

Hi Jennifer, it might be something else rather than awake windows causing your LO to wake every 2 hours. I would have a look at how your LO is falling to sleep, if you're often falling back on assisting to sleep then your LO may be relying heavily on help to do it. It may also be environmental, too hot or too cold, that may mean your LO is waking every cycle a bit uncomfortable. Our Older Baby Program can help you work out what's going on and get some better sleep happening overnight for both of you Www.littleones.co/products/older-baby

Little Ones thank you so much for your reply! We have implemented many environmental changes as we did notice him waking hot and cold at different times of the night, we changed his sleep wear and I am manually controlling the temperature in his room to keep it as consistent as possible. I also started a strict bedtime routine. I am rocking him to sleep and nursing although I am trying to cut back on the frequency of the feeds and am trying to settle him without picking up! If these still don’t work I will look deeper in your program and see what else we can do to get him to sleep again! He was a great sleeper up until 7.5 months so I know he has it in him! Keep up the great videos my husband and i love l watching them! Thanks again for all the great tips! I wish I found you guys sooner

Little Ones one more question- my baby has been using a sound machine that projects stars on the ceiling since the day he came home. I have tried turning the stars off and I noticed it took a lot longer for him to settle and was crying in a different pitch almost as if he were scared. Should I leave them on aNd just project them to the other side of the room so they’re not directly above him so it’s not completely pitch dark? I know everything I read says pitch black room but the nights I tried this it was nearly impossible to soothe him or should I keep leaving it off? Thanks again!
@littleonesbabysleep4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer, we do recommend a pitch dark room. Having stars on the roof or those projector type things can inhibit sleep, why should I sleep when I can look at the stars? But you could try it on a red toned colour if you can change the colour as red is the least disruptive to melatonin production.
@jlp94524 жыл бұрын
Little Ones that does make sense! I can’t change the colour unfortunately- I’ll Have to sneak into his room and turn them off and just reassure him I’m there when he wakes up! Thank you!

What if a baby is going through a leap?
@littleonesbabysleep4 жыл бұрын
Hi Fatima, Leaps can certainly disrupt sleep however they are temporary and usually pass in a week or two so remaining consistent is crucial to get through the leaps without new habits being formed. If you are wanting to start working on self settling while your LO is in a leap, just take note of how your LO is being affected by the leap, if they are extra clingy and a bit more emotionally fragile you can certainly hold off a bit but if your wonder weeks leaps says you're LO is in a leap and they acting as per normal you can go full steam ahead.

My baby wakes up every 10 to 20 mins during naps and be active for 30 mins and gets cranky . Again I rock her and put sleep this is on and on. Ideally how long should each nap be??
@littleonesbabysleep4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dharsana, Naps ideally would be a longer one across the middle of the day and 1-2 shorter ones either side depending on the age of your baby. If your LO is waking 10-20mins into a nap that signals that there may be something bothering your LO such as wind, reflux, too hot or cold or if your LO is only having 30 mins awake time it might be you need to gradually extend awake times to encourage better naps. Your baby may have been waking undertired but then as the days have gone on with 10-20 min naps has become overtired.
