I've been unable to do any one thing because I kept focusing on too many. So one thing I want to do from this video will be problem solving.

I know it sounds so simple, to solve problems, but it is very difficult during traumatic times AND something that can lead to the biggest relief.

For me the most helpful thing about your videos is the fact that you share your own experience. You talk about your difficulties and struggles. You talk about how you approach to deal with them. You talk about your wife, kids, job. That’s most helpful to me. I guess it’s because by talking about the struggle you normalize it. That’s helpful. And for that I thank you so so so much.

So many take aways from this video. Trauma can induce personal growth, gratitude combats the negative mind and permission to feel it all (or nothing) as it is all part of the grieving process. Thanks so much for your videos.

I would like to show more compassion to myself. Growing up in a culture where you should always push through difficulties and not complain, I always push myself beyond my limit. Sometimes I forget that I'm just a human being like anyone else and I'm allowed to feel difficult and incapable. Thank you!

I definitely need to stop trying to do everything at once and start by focusing on problem solving. I also ordered that rock steady book and will read through that tomorrow. Today, some things kind of imploded on top of everything happening in the world so tonight, I am going to try and get some sleep. Tomorrow, take it one thing at a time and work the problem. Thank you for making these

So, I've just discovered your videos and I love them! I'm 36 years old just now going to school for the first time for clinical psychology. I discovered this is what I want to do from my own struggles. At first I thought I was suffering from a bout of mania, but I am getting stronger through this epidemic. I relate so much with the struggles of being a parent during these time. All of your advice is so great. Thank you!

Thank you for these videos. I was already working on dealing with my health-based anxiety with my therapist before this happened, and now that my symptoms have began returning, watching your videos has been very helpful in helping me understand my anxiety and helping me acknowledge that this isn't normal - this is a trauma that we are all going through. I have started keeping a journal whenever I have panic attack symptoms, and those have been helpful; I'll also try what you suggest and write for at least 20 minutes a day. Although one thing I will say I'm grateful for (besides you and your videos :) ) is my partner. He has anxiety as well, but has been my rock and talkes me down from my own panic attacks. I am also grateful for my close group of online friends who are all supportive of each other. I will continue to practice thinking about things to be grateful for. Please keep up the great work, and I would love to see more psych-related videos!

Thank you so much for this important information. I am hoping to grow from this experience and have very often found myself a bit out of my depth in navigating all the changes for my family and for myself. I am learning to more patient with everyone around me and with myself. I really needed to hear this today.

How can you tell you're in survival mode? Is survival mode black and white? "If you're numb, its impossible to feel anything" - because I have no idea what's going on in my brain. I'm both numb and feeling ... something..at the same time. Also! Thank you for all your work during these trying times! You definitely deserve a whole lot of gratitude from your subscribers!
@drmscoggins4 жыл бұрын
Survival mode can look different depending on the person, If you are not feeling like yourself and you cannot figure out a distinct source of change then it may be that you have kicked into survival mode. If you recall the last time you felt trauma and went into survival mode, compare this situation to that and look for similarities.

@@drmscoggins a distinct source of change? I think at the moment I'm doing absolutely nothing. Staying in bed 20+ hours a day. Generally only getting up to eat. I do want to improve, but I just feel frozen. It's harder to build a routine when you've never really had a routine in the first place. My guitar string snapped, which was apart of my daily routine. I think that set me back and just put me back in bed.

Hi I am new here. Nice to meet you. I was a covid-19 long hauler for 2 years. I caught it in march 2020. I was isolated for over a year and a half. Coming back into society was very difficult and I still don't feel like myself most of the time. I found your channel because I got an idea today I may be dealing with unresolved grief. In addition to having covid-19 , I lost some relationships, not due to death, animals, money, all I had, I lost everything including my keepsakes, ect! I was homeless awhile, in a shelter for 6 months, and have been in an apartment a year now. I have been handicapped from cataracts, just recovering mow from surgery, thankfully and I am feeling down. I isolate, everything seems a struggle, i feel anxious, depressed, and sometimes not able to make decisions. I sm wondering could all the above be unresolved grief? I lost my mom in 2011, thought I had grieved this. Thing is, I am highly sensitive and empathetic, I wonder could I even be grieving my toxic ex, divorced last year? I appreciate any feedback here. God Bless!

I just saw you on Dr. Mike, and again, I was hoping for a real trauma discussion, but it's the pandemic. I understand that a lot of people are asking questions about this, but it's not long term trauma. Some of us need real answers. Please label your videos correctly. It is a big disappointment for me.
