I personally do wanna live with a person before getting married to them. Purely because I need to know them better. When you’re dating and meeting occasionally a person tends to only show their good side. need to know what I’m getting myself into. I need to know the good and the bad before hand. Imagine getting married to someone and learning later on that they’re violent or short-tempered or stuff like that. Nope. It’s also against my beliefs and culture but I’m going to do what I think is best for me. Pleasing people or my family isn’t gonna help me in any way. I know too many people that have gotten the shock of their lives after getting married and I don’t want that for me. I think everyone should do what they think is best for them. And no one should judge the next person’s choices. Different things work for different people.

My husband I dated for four months and he popped out lobola; then after we prepared for the wedding, the next four months, boom we did our white wedding. The whole period of courtship lasted for eight months and we only had sex in honeymoon. Now after ten years I don't regret marrying him.
@Shae882 жыл бұрын
Dated someone for 10 years and lived together for 5. Still ended up having to call off the wedding 4 months before the date (June 2022). “Lean not on your own understanding.” It doesn’t matter HOW self aware you think you are. Or how good of a judge of character you think you are. We have to learn to hear God’s instructions in everything, ESPECIALLY marriage/relationships. Because we can’t see in the spirit. We can’t see into the future. Only God’s direction can avoid confusion and disaster. I’m moving different next time around.

Love u guys..it's true marriage is not about perfection, it is about emotional intelligence and connection. Noone is perfect. One needs to b able to understand which imperfections will he/she b dealing with. There will always b conflict between people with different upbringing. The question will always b how you deal with those. How do you fight? How civil are u in dealing with conflict.? As long as the conflict is to upbuild one another, not to destroy one another. All other issues prestige, education , financial freedom is just a cherry on top. Emotional connection is the key. 3 ingredients are needed..Thoughtfulness, goals and family values. Money is just a bonus and a means to an end..not everything. Just thinking aloud.

I am probably one of the few people who believe in moving in with someone you are planning a future with.....my husband literally spoke of marriage from the beginning of our dating. We bought a place together 4 years before getting married and the delay was mostly due to me not being ready. We acted as partners in everything but lived our relationship outside of both our families....it was just the 2 of us figuring everything out and planning our future. It taught me soooooo much about him and about myself. You can't however just move in with every person you date, especially someone who doesn't even mention the future or randomly wants children nje just because niyajola. I guess it's a gut feeling. Personally I would advise people who are engaged even to live together before tying the knot.

Now based on experience that's how we are maneuvering/ navigating through this marriage life. The wrong premarital counseling will definitely leave you with expectations and fake hope. Hubby and I take time to read the bible; chit chat about what we understand and help each. At the end of the day we just accept each other just the way we are and intentionally love and work together. I like that snoring part, I was told I snore so I'll just tell hubby that I'm scaring satan away...

The worse part is that we took western religion and made it our culture. I met 5 Abelungu women in my life who had each 3 to 5 abortion because they had to wait for marriage to have kids, hence we see most in their 30's without kids. I am pro-abortion because a woman has a right to her body, but not doing it so that the family can look good to people, it must be done because she feels it's the right thing for her. A lot of us blacks are being held bach and even killed by the "WWPSS- What will people say Syndrom". Happy Sunday everyone, enjoy the newfound Level 2 Freedom back home.❤😊

How we are raised and the expectations from a cultural perspective drive us to make decisions that are not always the best.. I do think there is a balance between who we are *westernized* and who we are, culturally. For me it was important for my family to give their blessing in moving in with my fiance *after he had asked me to marry him* for many reasons; I live in the US with no family and I am a woman who is strong in culture and I personally knew living with him before any commitment would not please me and the woman I am.. However, I do agree that living together has helped us immensely, along with premarital counseling. We are gradually knowing more about one another ' it's scary and exciting 🥰

Three minutes in and I’m cracking up. Wow. I’m in tears. The fragility... we love it 🤍 The same argument could be used in reverse. Others can decide against cohabiting and opt to go about it differently to preserve their purity, then with the right mindset and right intentions, apply themselves towards making their marriage a beautiful testimony of love. Granted, there are too many examples of failed Christian relationships making it hard to not hinge on past experience. It’s a hard topic bcz I don’t think as Christians we want to disappoint God, forget the people at Church, what about the sacrifice Jesus already made for us? When we put ourselves in precarious situations aren’t we knowingly taking it all for granted? These are the sort of debates I have with myself whenever I’m deciding whether to get into a relationship and I can quickly see which direction it’s going to go. One thing for sure.. there needs to be an updated version of this pre-marital counselling bcz it’s clearly not meeting the needs of the current times. There needs to be a way of safeguarding the values of those who even though they want to uphold fundamental Christian beliefs, particularly around dating and marriage, also understand that you can’t just jump straight into wedlock without really knowing the real-life person. Ideally, dating couples thinking of marriage could cohabit without crossing, in the mind or physical, ✨that line✨. And also imagine a world with no corruption and no poverty and if rainbows actually had gold at the end of them.

Great sis. You've hit the nail right in
@phumlamyataza8527 Жыл бұрын
"Experience gives you a better view", I like that especially if you have been married before because you can easily pick up if the person will tolerate your imperfections or not. Yes, as born again Christians we are not supposed to stay together before marriage. However, because of different situations we find ourselves there sometimes. We moved in together with my husband and I don't regret it because we made it a point that we get married. My husband honoured his word of the marriage promise to me. In my first marriage, we moved in together when we got married but that marriage didn't last. When I assess the situation between these two marriage, I realized that my 1st husband didn't have good intentions of getting married even though we were both Christians (born again) and we did everything perfectly. When we were married, he once mentioned that if he was not a Christian, he wouldn't have been married because he was going to have sex without making a commitment. Hence, when he stopped going to church (backslided), he started cheating. He started to change and he didn't respect our marriage to a point where he called a family meeting to tell me that "its over" I must leave him. He didn't love me. In my second marriage to another Christian, it's different because my husband values marriage more than anything. Before we got married, we talked about marriage and how what kind of marriage we wanted to have. For example, how we each understand the institution of marriage and how we should both behave in marriage as Christians. We are now growing together and each year is becoming greater than the previous because we both have a desire to honour God in this marriage and make sure that we don't end up getting divorced. So I think it's very important for both parties to agree about the important factors that bring stability in marriage and honor them together. Because marriage is built by 2 people who decided to commit to each other no matter what. I can say lot of things. Thanks once again for sharing your experiences Nozi and Skhu. I love this channel a lot.
