As someone who daily commutes on 495 and route 9, I can attest to the frustration of left lane campers. I had a lady going 69mph on the left lane so I gave her a little high beam flash to be polite and not swerve around her. Not a Honda person but the type R is a great alternative if you can't afford a BMW M3. I actually like this better then the previous type R. The previous type R was obnoxious. I test drove one of these 2 years ago. It was a great driving experience. What really hit me was afterwards. I got out of the Type R and into my wife's car (2018 Odyssey) and for a couple moments I thought the car was literally broken. Compared with the tight, precise Type R, the minivan (which normally feels fine, and has pretty good handling for a minivan) felt so wobbly and vague that I thought I had a flat tire or something. That feeling went away after a while, but I'll never forget how incredibly refined that Type R Civiv was.

ACC is the absolute best feature to have in a car, I get your issues with it but for passes I usually disengage it with applying a bit of throttle and making it „passive“ while I’m closing up to the car I want to pass. Afterwards I just let go of the throttle and it re-engages, so no issue there It’s a must have for me due to long commutes, makes a normal cruise control feel old and outdated. When used well, it’s surely an aid. But I get your opinion on it, not for everybody
@Evolution10X Жыл бұрын
I hated it at first. I didn’t know why the car wouldn’t maintain 75. But now i realize it senses when your too close to the person in front of you it slows down. It’s almost a speed limit setting rather than cruise control. My only pet peeve is that it accelerates too hard to get back to set speed. But whoever designed that feature. Hats off to them. It’s maybe a bit too sensitive to how close you are to the next car but otherwise it’s fantastic for longer drives.
@xuimod11 ай бұрын
I agree. Adaptive cruise control is very unappreciated and underrated with most people.
@Malficion Жыл бұрын
BTW if it recommends and NOT require, emphasis on NOT REQUIRE. You can use 87 without worry, there's an Octane sensor on the car that'll detect what you put in and change the ignition timing. The only difference between 87 and 93 is how resistant they are to pre-ignition, they both have the same additives that "cleans" your engine. Just make sure you're getting gas from a reputable supplier. (Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, etc) Not all gas stations are equal, avoid unpopular if you car requires 91/93, gas breaks down and degrade over time meaning that 91 you're putting in might really be 89 if the station doesn't have an Octane sensor.

I just kinda got tired of having issues and stuff breaking etc.. I now just want something new, reliable and super fun to drive on the street and take to my local autocross event. Those cars although fun to drive, I always felt like I couldn’t get the full experience/enjoyment out of them. You always feel like they’re going to break, spin out, you need a drag radial.. I want something that can handle and is just fun. And yes although I’ve had those cars in the past. I’m also a huge Japanese car lover.. I know there’s the gt darkhorse coming out for example, in the 50s I’m sure. So In my head I start to campare this type r to a car like that, and yes it has less power etc.. but for some reason I feel like the type r is just a way more special car than that mustang.. and Probly just funner to drive as well. Thanks for the honest, real world, no nonsense review. I've never owned a Honda product. While I've always been interested or even desired some CRXs, Civics, Accords, Preludes, and Integras / RSXs in the past, but I've never gotten around to owning one, due to one thing or another, including one real jerk of a salesperson at a local Honda dealership. I'm not a huge fan of fancy digital gauges, but that setup that you have looks pretty decent enough. I don't care for infotainment systems. I feel that if your car needs an infotainment system, you own a boring car. I'm not into the Apple ecosystem (I will NEVER own an iPhone), so I don't know if that's going to a deal breaker or not. I'm not crazy about the exterior looks of the Civic, and I haven't been for a long while - not since 2006. The more plastic / fiberglass body cladding and carbon fiber you put on a car, the uglier it gets, in my opinion. Fun and practical has been the name of the game for the past 20 or so years for me. It looks like you found a winner and when I first clicked on your video, I thought "I'll just havc a look to see what's new. Civics are just 'too Fast and too Furious' for me." Then you took your Civic on a drive and started talking about handling, fuel economy, and general livability. You definitely got my interest. I know what you mean about German traction control. Volkswagen's DSC will resist spinning wheels to the end by killing the throttle. I had written Civics off my list, but now, I'll have to take a more serious look at them. Thanks again for your video!

disable in car navigation in settings is what people were doing and it fixed all other issues. The problem is that it takes up too much RAM and slows and messes with all other software in the HUD and center console screen.

u did a PHENOMENAL job. Now i'm less interested in the type r, and more interested in a couple of those cars on the lot, right before u drove out the dealership

18 was the way to go on this. I have 18s on my 2020 and it’s so much different from driving with 20s which felt like a tank.

The equation “fun for buck” is becoming very interesting in the car world these days. I own a Fiesta ST in Europe (roughly USD 25k) as a weekend toy and the car is just phenomenal… I also own a Macan GTS as a family car, which is a very good car, but fun wise not better than the nimble Fiesta (4 times the price of the latter) I can use to attack any corner I may think of. Fun wise, Civic Type R might be the sweet spot in the car world given its capabilities and price (more or less 50% cheaper than an M3/RS4 in Europe but twice of a Fiesta). Bottom line is that you do not need to spend a huge amount of money to own a really fun and capable car, although sky is the limit and you can go up in the ladder and just buy a GT3…

What Adaptive Cruise is the best thing ever. All the rubbernecking on a highway, I can just relax. Then if I need to pass I move over big deal if the highway is bust then I pass and give it gas then let off and back to adaptive.

My wife has a 21 Honda CRV and her infotainment also does the map scramble with Wayze, Google Maps and Apple Maps. With ours, we have to cycle through the brightness to get it clear again.

Stuck between used FK8 for high 30s, new Si, new sport touring hatch..
@nate1971 Жыл бұрын
Let me help… I stepped down from 21 Fk8 last week to 23 sport touring 6spd. (I needed a less expensive payment). I love the sport touring and it’s features but it was quite a step down. Further than I expected. The fk8 is a damn weapon and chews up the miles effortlessly. I NEVER had a bad or boring drive… EVER. I unfortunately cannot find comfort in the sport touring seats tho. They hurt my back and I feel like you are sitting ON them rather than IN them which is a no go. I found an msrp deal on a Si and will be moving into it tomorrow. All the tech is nice in the touring, but if you appreciate the DRIVE and dynamics… then don’t look at touring. It’s very soft. There will be Type Rs out there that are garage queens like mine if that interests you. Sad that they will still be (for now) pushing 40k. Here’s to hoping the Si will be better!! Good luck!

The heat is 3x hotter than a non turbo engine so gas will pre ignite before it’s designated time unless you use a higher octane mix to help control pre ignition and basic n/a 4cyl will be around 500 degrees vs a turbo identical engine that will be 1500 degrees

Everyone talking about how great this car is needs to watch from 4:30 on, then watch it again. That is exhibit A on why FWD sucks. Wheelhopping front wheels are not fun, wet or not, that is not conducive to a great driving experience and you will experience that when you drop the hammer in this thing.

Beautiful, graceful car. Love it. I also laughed when you said LA is the worst in the world. LA is like an open country road compared to King's Highway (Ontario) 401 here in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). LA ain't seen nothing yet.

Your not the only one! Waze has been a real pain on carplay lately.
@jonathanellis3604 Жыл бұрын
As a victim of Apple CarPlay glitches, it’s not either the car nor your phone. Waze just has a tendency to scramble sometimes when on Apple CarPlay. I had a 2017 BMW 330i and faced the exact same problem. It’s just the app. If you use Apple Maps or Google maps you’ll find that doesn’t happen.

Hello Ted. I just got word that my Type R will be arriving in about a month (Championship White). I was looking for something fun to drive on Cape Cod and your commute through Boston roads was very informative. I also drove an M3 (e46) for 17 years and loved it! I finally sold it to buy the last C7 Corvette with a manual transmission. But that car is a little too much for the roads on the Cape and so it sits in Franklin Tennessee where everything is bigger and the last time they had snow was almost never. I'm retired now so my use of the car in Massachusetts will be just for getting around and as you discovered, once you've driven something that handles really well and responds to your right foot, it's hard to go back to just plain vanilla. I looked at and test drove other driver's cars like a Miata (too small), JCW Mini (really fun but also a little darty and also pretty small), Golf GTI (the sensible choice except for the infotainment system) and finally the Acura Integra (great transmission and very comfortable, but a little underpowered much like your Civic Si and just so so handling). I think I'll be as happy with the Type R as you have been and at my age, I'm not really looking for anyone to notice me when I stop for gas or a cup of coffee. Thanks for sharing some very practical information about the Type R.

I believe the glitchy carplay is actually a result of the navigation system taking up too much RAM on the computer. If you search on how to fix it on youtube something should come up I remember seeing it.
