@corey Babcock I agree 100%. That should of been tested by the repair guy after putting the wires back together and before them leaving the shop. A rookie mistake for sure. Worse yet to cross thread the water hoses and just leave it like that without testing is totally incompetent. I hope the repairs they cannot see hold together but I would be very skeptical. What parts did they have to wait weeks for? Some sheet metal and square tubing!

Here's another tip. We took our 2017 Solitude in for the recall on the microwave/convection oven. Grand Design is having service centers put a metal plate behind them because apparently heat from the convection oven can discolor the wall behind it. ANYWAY...the tip is to always make sure the service center LATCHES the outside vents back in place...ours flew off onto the freeway because they didn't AND they don't make the black shiny ones like ours has anymore....so we won't have matching vents unless we replace both and the new ones aren't as nice looking :-(

oh man, i got a good one !. brand new 2021, 18rd, sunlite classic. the day i went to inspect it WHILE SITTING ON THE DEALERS LOT !, i pointed out, that the rear steps ( rear door entry ), was mounted wrong, and not allowing the door to close/seal at the very bottom ?. the sales man says to me, '' oh..its because the trailer is not level ''. uh huh..so i say..ok..fine ( dumb move..i know ! ). i get home with it a few days later, level camper, WITH A 4 FT LEVEL MIND YOU !. side to side, front to back. all level. open rear door, fold down the MorRyde steps, right off the bat, same problem. i make a phone call to the dealership ( 1 1/2 drive away from me ), explain to him, same problem with rear door and steps, he tells me to take some pics, send them to him, and factory. i did, i get an email back from the factory, they say '' MAKE SURE THE TRAILER IS ALL LEVEL '' ?..WHAT THE HECK !!. ( i sent maybe 20 pics to them, detailing what the problem was, and how to solve this ). Couple days later, the factory tells me to take it to the warranty repair all the way back up near where i bought the camper ( yep..you know...the place is 1 1/2 drive one way ! ), i get there, explain to them, here is how you fix this, the fold down steps DO NOT have the correct bends that comes over the thresh hold, and the steps are hitting the rear bumper edge once folded down, and not pressed against the outside of the thresh hold at the bottom. they take notes, 2 weeks later, they call me, say come pick my camper up, its fixed. i make ANOTHER drive back up there, and what do i see ?, THEY SHIMMED THE DOOR FRAME OUT OFF THE CAMPER BODY, ABOUT TWO TUBES OF CALKING TO FILL THE FRAME GAP !!..OMG...I WAS MAD !!. i go inside, soon as i walk in, they ask me how do i like it ?..lmao. oh i went off on them, i said..its not fixed, you need to get the salesman over here...RIGHT NOW !. He shows up, stands there in front of me, TRYING to tell me, its fixed, when i can still see that the door wont close, and seal correctly ?!. now i start to get a tad mad, finally i just say ok, time for me to hire a lawyer. i get home, very first thing i do is go on google review page, and lay it all out ( pretty much like i am doing here..lol ) next thing i know, the salesman is calling me ( with his number blocked at that !..lol ) telling me he is going to sue me for posting lies about the google review ?, I SAID...BRING IT BIG BOY..I'LL OWN YOUR ARSE ( a nice word there ), and the factory as well !, real quick like, he changed his tune to me..lol. HE KNEW WHAT I POSTED WAS THE WHOLE TRUTH, NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH !. i did finally fix the steps, all it took was putting a different brand of steps on my camper, yes, it was at my cost, THERE WAS NO WAY IN HECK WAS I GOING TO DRIVE BACK UP THERE, AND TRY TO GET THEM TO COVER THE COST...EVER !. So, BEFORE YOU LEAVE ANY REPAIR SHOP ?..MAKE 100% SURE EVERYTHING WORKS THE WAY IT SHOULD ?..OR YOU WILL GET TAKEN FOR A RIDE !.

Very informative video. Being a minimalist myself (lived in a sailboat, semi truck sleeper, converted utility shell, converted 6'x12' cargo trailer, small home in the Philippines), I like the freedom of a small easily managed rig that can go anywhere. I'm considering the Kimbo truck camper right now. My sister and her husband sold their VA home and are living in a Tiffin motorcoach now.

We have had our RV 9 yrs. The first trip we took was just a short weekend trip to the mountains. We stopped to get gas on our way home. We pulled into a gas station with a small truck stop off to the side. I told hubby to pull into the center lanes, but he wanted to do the outer lane. One thing about his driving, he always cuts corners. So he pull in from the hwy and went right to the outside lane and made what I call the lazy turn to the left and realized that he hadn't pulled up far enough before he turned into the gas lane. Well, he was close to the concrete horseshoe shaped barrier they had at the end of the island. he tried to back up and correct his turn but everything he did he got closer & closer to the barrier. I finally told him to go get a truck driver and maybe they could help him get out. They guy told us it was going to scrape but he guided us thru so we only did damage to one panel on the RV. It wasn't a storage compartment and there was nothing behind it. So, that panel was $2500.00 to replace. The first place we took it, because it was closer to the house, tried say there was structural damage to the frame, which we didn't see. So we took it back to where we bought it and there was no damage to the frame. After driving 30 mins or so after her scraped up the side of our brand new RV, hubby said, I should have listened to you and gone to the middle lanes. I almost fell on the floor. He has never admitted in out 30+ yrs of marriage that I was right. My daddy taught me a lot of mechanical, electrical and automotive skills. His dad didn't spend much time teaching any of the 6 kids much of anything. I never understood why he never listened when I tried to explain something to him. He didn't want an explanation, he just wanted me to do it. LOL Now, with his eyesight, he can't see the small things well enough, so I do it. I am so glad your rig is fixed and you can get back on the road! I miss your travels! You are near where our oldest son lives. I'd love to spent a summer RVing the Oregon coast! HUGS~Donna

I don't know if you guys enjoy a cocktail but after hearing and watching what you went through I had one for you just in case you don't. My 2018 Coachmen Freedom Express microwave halfway fell out of its brackets on my second camping trip with it to Cherrystone Campground in Virginia. The RV place I bought it from told me to wait till the end of the season when everything else goes bad and bring it in so they can fix it then. Needless to say I had to fix it myself. There were other things that went on it that I had to bring it to the shop for. I'm happy to hear that you had somewhat of a better experience getting your camper fix. But I did what you guys are doing I let other people know how I was treated at that RV place

Don't feel bad, my wife and I bought an Itasca class C 29 and first trip out hit a tree branch and ripped the slide awning cover right off. Lucky for me the rv dealer had a uses aluminum structure we got cheap and repaired quickly. The slide would not open until this repair was done!

Looking forward to your washer/dryer review. We have used our Splendide 7100XC combo unit regularly for 4 years and would not RV without one. It's the ventless model which appears to attract a lot of harsh criticism by many, but I think overall these type of machines get a bad rap. I will say our dryer can be temperamental. Error codes will appear if lint, hair, or other debris clog up the system; but dealing with these issues is not difficult.

I was stuck in Southern Arizona for 5 1/2 months at a dealers. The repairs were $22,000. I have very mixed feelings about the dealer. I definitely would NOT drive past other dealers to get service. Several people were removing rigs that had been “ in line” for service for months to go elsewhere.

When I buy a Forest River Vibe Travel Trailer, the number one option I am concerned with is having a washer/dryer hookup. That limits my choice to a 31ML or 28RB. I am leaning 31ML. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of a table or dinette.

Although you are happy with Blue Dog, it seems they were not thorough in checking their work. Checking the lights to see if they work is very basic as well as being careful not to strip the threads on the water supply connections. This is what they do for a living! Why does this have to be so difficult? The stripped threads in my guess is the result of a novice service tech or someone in a hurry. Glad you are finally back on the road.

Looks good but frome the video as his hand is upward i can see the repair dip as the cam guy moves around been in the RV body world for over 35 years that area should have been flat meaning no dips or bumps and the clear coat should have gone all the way around the rear cap not blended in if they did that blend on the clear

WOW $25k in repairs, and here I thought car ownership was expensive. Now I’m having second thoughts on purchasing a motorhome as one little boo boo could potentially destroy your home... Sticks and bricks home repairs are no where near as expensive so I’m left wondering why RV repairs are this expensive.

So, I've been following this, well, from the beginning and I had some general thoughts that I wanted to share. Please keep in mind, these are just thoughts and not directed "At" anyone. It's all just thoughts generated by having watched this play out. Maybe it's just me,,,,, in fact, it's probably just me. But there is this idea in my head that could be called "Professionalism". What's that? Well in the context of RV's, I think it's the idea (possibly misconception) that 1) These are expensive items and 2) the level of service should be commensurate with the costs involved. Well, where does that idea come from? When I was growing up, that's to say when I was a young lad, watching my father navigate the waters of life, this idea was born out of watching the outcomes of various circumstances that life throws at you. Back in the early 70's, you could expect a certain amount of professionalism in many of life circumstances. In 2022, that idea (ideal?) of professionalism seems to have broadly disappeared. When it comes to RV's, I'm not so sure that this "Ideal" I speak of ever existed, at least not in the sense that I perceive it. Let's say you paid $50,000 for your RV (a middle of the road TT in 2022), and you tore the back off of it off hitting a gas pump. Someone unaware of how the RV industry works might think that the repair work done on a $50k RV would conform to certain standards. For example, when picking up the RV, one might expect all of the lights to work. Sure, mistakes happen and we are all human. A reasonable person makes allowances for this of course. But surely, you would have expected the shop to say, test the lights? And if you spend upwards of $1000 to have a washer dryer combo installed in your $50k RV at the same shop, one might reasonably expect that the install would not include cross threading the hose connection, not only causing a leak, but also ruining the plastic valves. As a word of warning to any would be New RV owners, I'd like to toss out some information. First, RV's are absolutely not an "Investment". One does not get into an RV, be it part time or full time, unless you have disposable income. One does not buy an RV unless they are willing to sink unrecoverable dollars into the endeavor. RV's are a money sink. If you decide to get into an RV, do it for the right reasons. I'm not insinuating that owning an RV is a bad Idea. RV's are a great idea if you enjoy that activity. But don't think you will ever get anywhere close to the money back out of your RV that you sink into it. You won't. Anywhere NEAR it. Next, it literally doesn't matter how much money you spend on an RV. There are certain things that all RV's share in common, bet it a $17,000 rig, or a $300,000 rig. These things are the exact opposite of "Well Made". I'll give an example. Take the 5th wheel in this video. This rig is WELL over $100k new. And yet, they have nasty plastic washer hookups. Yes, there is a spectrum of crappy in that some rigs are less crappy than other rigs, but they are all some flavor of crap. The difference between a $17,000 RV and a $300,000 RV is that the more expensive RV comes with More Crap. Lastly, when it comes to service, there is an age old problem. In fact, this problem is so old that one might start to think it's a manufactured problem. That problem is that there are far FAR too few service shops for the number of RV's on the road. And even before 2020, "Getting Parts" was always an issue. Couple this with the fact that there is virtually NO Regulations or standards for service. It's the wild west out there. I'm not saying that people shouldn't buy an RV. Not at all. I love my TT. I love it in spite of the incredible Sunk costs. All told, with EVERYTHING, I have well over $50k sunk into my modest $28k 2019 Grand Design 2150rb. 80% to 90% of that is sunk costs. And that's not including the cost of Gas or Campground expenditures. And I'm ok with that. (I mean, it makes me wince for sure, but I'm ok with the money I've sunk into this because we enjoy it). What' I'm suggesting is that maybe in my estimation, as much as 50% of people who buy an RV, will end up regretting it because they didn't understand what they were getting into. While it's possible to thoroughly enjoy an RV, there is absolutely nothing "Forgiving" about them. Under the best conditions, they will consume large quantities of money. If you get into an accident with them or don't constantly maintain them (keep the water out), well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, frankly they can bankrupt you if you don't have your head on straight. My advice to anyone looking at getting into an RV, part time or full time, is to spend the time and do your research. And I'm not talking spending a couple hours on Google. I researched for 3+ years before We bought our Imagine 2150rb. I went into this with my eyes wide open. I was fully aware of what I was getting into. And the 3 years of research has saved me 10's of thousands of dollars and regret. But research can only take you so far. While properly educating yourself about EVERY FACET of RV ownership is indispensable, there are lessons that one can only learn by doing. Such lessons have cost me personally at least some thousands of dollars. And that's part of the experience. Everyone goes through this. Every seasoned RV'er "in the know" was once a green horn. When I first got the idea to buy an RV, I was so green I bleed coprophil. RV's are absolutely not for everyone. Again, in my personal estimation, probably 50% of the people that currently own an RV in 2022, shouldn't, and will end up regretting it. Buying an RV isn't like buying a car or even a home for that matter. It's an unforgiving endeavor. One would be well advised to fully research every aspect of RV ownership before they consider buying one. And I'll leave this comment with one last indispensable bit of advice. Give every Camping World store (and their veiled affiliates like "GanderRV") no less than a 10 mile buffer zone. Consider the 10 mile radius around any Camping World store to be a fatally toxic nuclear waste land. Because it is. If you enter these areas, you will be severely burned and probably die a miserable death from radiation poisoning. Camping world IS cancer and only very very VERY unaware (literally ignorant of the dangers) people enter into the wasteland. Only those who want to guarantee a nasty potentially RV ending experience right off the hop, should risk going into the Camping World nuclear wasteland. And even then it's really inadvisable.

It's supposed to look and feel exactly the way it look when it came out of the factory by not replacing the whole area that's why it doesn't look exactly the same but it should but insurance companies with their body shops cut labor costs by doing things like this I hope you asked if they used oam panels not aftermarket

They would've had to remove the entire back wall for it to look exactly the same. And that would've involved removing part of the roof to do that. We just did not want them to be that invasive, and then also it would have taken probably a few more months. So no it is not perfect, but yes we are back on the road living our lives. For us, that is the most important thing. Life is short.

Yikes, so sorry to hear this. Hope this gets fixed soon. When I bent my steps I went straight to a weld shop since I was on the road, they took care of me on the spot. I recommend you call around to different shops and see who can help. Best of luck!

Pretrip upon picking up from a shop is a lesson we learned also. We picked up our motorhome after being in the shop for a couple of days. We got to our campsite. Hooked up and then needed to visit one of our two bathrooms. I went in the back one and told my husband, "hey thanks for leaving that little gift behind in the toilet... I'll flush it for you." He said he didn't do that. We both realized that the shop used it. So from now on we will tape our toilets shut.

What would they have to do for you to say they were sketchy. They finished all of this work and they didn’t check the lights or camera. We were lucky. When we clipped the back of our camper, the repair shop fixed it better than new. Of course we only did $1100 dollars of damage. That was 4 years ago and no new issues with the repair. Since you recently damaged your roof and the rear corner of your rig your might want to get a tractor trailer driver to give you some lessons.

OK so check out those videos you mentioned. The roof scrape with something where we saw the tree and didn't realize that it was sharp enough to cut the roof. We figured we would just brush by the branches. Sometimes I think people look at our headlines and don't actually watch the videos. Sounds like you had a similar situation with tail swing, glad that it was only $1100 worth of damage. Stay safe out there!

We were shocked too. I guess that's how insurance makes money. We do feel we could have paid cash and gotten it WAY cheaper. Unfortunately we had to make a claim bc we also took out a gas pump and we had no idea how high that repair could be. And it's a sad truth that you just can't get good help these days. We were just happy that they came out and made it right.

I must say I am impressed with Blue Dog RV. We helped our grandson buy a 5th wheel, in fact it was just like your previous one, from BD. They allowed him to keep it in the lot for two months until the financing was done and he could find a full time place to live in it. So glad you can be back on the road. Trailer repair story. Brand new mini light. Refrigerator stopped working..had a choice ..drive it 300 miles and leave it for two weeks at dealer, or they sent me a thermo fuse which took me a half hour to install. So took care of that. Then noticed the solar panel wasn’t charging the batteries. Had the dealer install a 190watt kit.. so got on-line and searched troubleshoot. Turns out the solar panel worked fine but they hooked up the wrong wires to the controller. Had my son on the roof rattling the wires, reached into the wall found the correct wires and then connected them to the solar panel. (After volt testing them for voltage) AND BANG! they work. Now I have the two other wires they hooked up to the controller just in the wall. Don’t know where they go or what they do…no voltage to them so they are safe but WTH? These dealers are Idiots! Don’t trust the work they do! Their service stinks and your better off fixing it yourself on your brand new rig you have used less than 6 times!

" Thank God for insurance" Trust me, they will get every penny back as your rates will skyrocket with several claims. A major repair like this requires a sea trial, the lighting issue is very minor as they do not have the power unit to conncet and test. The rear wall of the trailer is like a rear of a house and you will have evidence or repair. $25,000 repair could have been fixed by Paul for $2500.00. Wash machines in full time rigs are a full time headache. A buck and a half at the laundramat is way better!! Great video!!! Thank you!!!

@@bradnoel5053 No claim means no rate increase.I insure for total loss collision and theft. I have never made a claim in 29 years of Rv trailering and motorhome living. Previous trailer was 2007 Pacific coachworks Tango. Absolutely beautiful, even with a hundred pound pine log branch through the roof, floor and into the gray tank!! Fixed myself for 80 dollars, even plugged up and professionally patched the water tank, using an old level monitor, covered the hole and made it look like it was required there. Sheet of ceiling and a new vent added where the new 10 inch hole was in roof. This would have been 10K to fix and 3 months in the shop. Paul is a super talented gear head. He could have rented a barn and fixed this thing himself in a week. Watch the RV expert on U tube.
