So glad you shared this with us. I have lived in Fort Myers my entire life (49 yrs) and have never been lucky enough to see one. Hopefully the storm coming will be weak but strong enough for a nice shell pile. I know I will be out bright and early..lol Loads of luck with your hunting..

I feel pretty lucky that we stumbled upon Periwinkle and I am thinking the same thing about the upcoming storm! Just trying to figure out which beach to go to and what time we should get there. Good luck with your shell hunting! Be safe!

Wonderful. I'm so glad you guys got to see something so rare and unique. Oh yeah that one nest is too close to the water. I would not be surprised if the ocean destroys that one. But this turtle seems like she's an old experienced gal and knows exactly what to do.

Oh what a great video! And how fortunate you were there to witness that. Timing is everything, isn’t it. The survival rate of the hatchlings is so disturbing. All the more reason to emphasize the importance of using red filters on flashlights and headlamps, and covering up holes that were dug, May through October, respectively. Shell on! You are doing a fabulous job. Thank you!!!

I'm not sure if her tracker fell off, but the SCCF (the people who track the turtles up here) are tracking a few turtles, but Periwinkle isn't one of them. Here is a link to the turtles they are currently tracking www.trackturtles.com/index.html

The mama turtles may come back to nest again during the nesting season (May-Oct), but she won't check on any other nests she's created. It takes about 2 months for the little hatchlings to "cook" before they go back out to sea. Thank you for watching - it was so much fun to be there and share!

Hi, can you tell me how early I can go to Sanibel? May I pay the toll with sun-pass? May I bring my bicycle? Is there any free parking? I know it is $5 per hour, but the parking area are small, where is the best place to park? Thank you and God bless you
@SWFBeachLife9 ай бұрын
You can go to Sanibel whenever you like if you park in one of the 24 hour lots. Some are dawn to dusk, others are 24 hours. You can bring your bike, but you can't bike over the causeway right now. Parking is $5 an hour everywhere on the island so you can't escape paying to park. Bowman's Beach has the largest parking lot and it's a decent place to find shells.
