i know this is late. i actually had many troubles with connectivity, sometimes at random it would just "lag being" like i type a word and it comes after a while, it is very annoying when you're typing. but i found out the issue and it was the dongle that wasn't receiving properly so when i moved the dongle it was solved.

I actually don't have a habit of liking videos as it was my way to make a watch later list. However I'm breaking this rule for this video as your video is the most informative on this keyboard I've ever came across to. Absolutely glad I came across your video. Many points raised which were never mentioned in others, and I was browsing for the last few days for reviews of this product. I believe I'll still be buying as my use case doesn't have the same problems you've encountered, but I'm still pleased I won't be totally unaware of some things that would've surprised me.

This keyboard is amazing, I used it for a year before switching to mechanical keyboards. I kinda want to get one again, I miss having a quiet keyboard for when I'm in meetings and don't want to be loud.
@JimIBobIJones
@JimIBobIJones 2 жыл бұрын
Its not a binary choice. Cherry and Kalih both do excellent "silent" switches which have rubber "feet" built into the slides, significantly reducing the sound. You can make these even quieter by adding plate and case foam/other noise dampening material. If you want ultimate silence, pick a keyboard with a non-metal plate (polycarb or FR4) + plastic case and use it with a desk mat.
@thenonexistinghero
@thenonexistinghero 2 жыл бұрын
@@JimIBobIJones Mechanical keyboards will still be louder even the sound reducing stuff. I suppose the Logitech G915 linear is pretty quiet compared to most mechanical keyboards. It's only slightly louder than the cheap and crappy membrane keyboard I used before that. That being said, I'm also somewhat of a soft typist by nature. Even on the same keyboards my typing sounds tend to be a lot softer than others using the same one.
@JimIBobIJones
@JimIBobIJones 2 жыл бұрын
@@thenonexistinghero try the switches that have rubber components in the stem slides themselves. They mute pretty much all of the actuation sounds from the switch itself and with o-rings and/or foam, you can do the same for the keycaps bottoming out sounds as well. Paired with a plastic plate, that would silence it. You can definitely get it to the same level as a "chicklet style" scissor or butterfly switch keyboard if you want to.
@thenonexistinghero
@thenonexistinghero 2 жыл бұрын
@@JimIBobIJones This keyboard cannot use other switches. Besides that, I'm more than fine with the low amount of sound this keyboard produces. And all those sound-reducing things also significantly affect the feel of a keyboard, which will be a leap backwards since it's perfect right now. It's pointless to go mechanical if you're going to make it feel halfway like a membrane keyboard. Also the G915 with linear switches I'm using is one of the quietest mechanical keyboards available on the market. It's impossible to get a mechanical keyboard that makes significantly less sound without compromising significantly on the feel.
@JimIBobIJones
@JimIBobIJones 2 жыл бұрын
@@thenonexistinghero that wasn't the point of my comment though. OP said they switched back from a mechanical keyboard at work because they are too loud for meetings. My point is that you can have a silent mechanical keyboard if you want to.

I currently use this keyboard with the MX Master 3 mouse and my workflow has greatly improved. I am beyond impressed with it. In addition, you mentioned that you have issues with the backlighting... The sensors built in it are ambient ones therefore they detect whether there is sufficient light in the room or not. Hence the backlight may not turn on at times

The touch on the mx keys is awesome. Multi-device is awesome, I use it with a m720 mouse, its perfect. I use it in the dark a lot, and I wish the backlight was configurable to be always on, at least when the charge usb is plugged in. the lack of spacing between f4 and f5, and then f8 and f9 is bugging me. (I wish the f-keys were grouped by 4, like a standard keyboard.) but the key feeling and travel offset all the cons for productivity. If you plan to game on this, use the dongle and you wont have any problems. My 2 cents.

I had the same connectivity issues when I first got mine and I was testing it for gaming purposes. I had the exact same problems as you where if I held a button for a long enough time, the keyboard would disconnect but the input was still being treated as being held down in the game so the character would keep moving in that direction. All that disappeared when I stopped connecting to my PC via Bluetooth and connected to it via the unifying receiver. Haven't had any problems with it since then and it has been working splendidly

Great video; I also spend most of my day in Excel so I wish I'd watched this before purchasing because the oversized escape key thing bugs the crap out of me as well! I put raised stickers over my F2 and F4 keys to help me feel for them-still not ideal but better than accidentally hitting F1.

Yeah I can't believe why anyone can't make a good enough scissor switch keyboard. Either keys are too close or disproportionate and you hit keys accidentally. Only thing that came close to me is Dell KM717 and the old magic keyboard from 2009.

I've been using the same keyboard since about late 2020. As you said, the multi-device switching is just amaaaaaazing. My desk setup at this point includes 3 computers connected to two monitors - MacBook Pro, gaming PC, work laptop, and having one keyboard that can switch between the three that quickly is something I've come to rely on. But, I've been having that same backlight glitching issue for about a year now. I wish I could say it doesn't bother me, but I spend like most of the day at my desk, usually in moderate lighting, and having a random light show being put on by the keyboard when I'm not even using it is super annoying. I can even see it lighting up the room at night every 10 seconds from my bedroom. It's annoying enough that I'm looking for a replacement. I've looked all over, and it looks like the only manufacturers that do device switching at this level are Logitech and Razer. So, I may well end up giving the MX Mechanical TKL version a try, but I'm worried that it'll exhibit the same backlight bugs :/

Thanks for the follow up. I’m your 500th sub. I bought the MX Keys a month ago and have 3 devices connected. My work windows laptop, my personal Mac laptop and my personal gaming windows desktop. The ability to seamlessly switch between all 3 blows me away. I also use a Logitech anywhere mouse and would love if Logitech could come up with away for their hardware to be paired so that one press of the MX 1,2, or 3 button will also cause the mouse to switch.. I like the keyboard, I think the material is solid, good quality. I don’t like how low it is so I added a device I bought for my earlier Das Keyboard for Mac to raise it. I only have one small quibble. I wish it had a sound dial. I like dials a lot.

I have the same keyboard and I absolutely love it. The dongle it comes with can actually pair up with 5 other devises, like a Logitech mouse that uses the same unifying usb dongle. If you get a Logitech mouse that has the "flow" option and you are able to download the software on both computers you don't even have to click buttons to go from one computer to the other. Unfortunately the company I work for doesn't allow us to download software onto our work computer. It is so much nicer than a KVM switch to be honest, no messy cords or the KVM box in the way. I am very happy with my MX Keys keyboard and my Logitech M720 mouse, they pair up perfectly and the mouse has the flow option or you can use the change computer switch key on the side of the mouse. Well worth the money!

Great review! I was concerned at first about the offsetting of the F keys, but then I looked at my current keyboard several others, and it seems like it's very common for the F keys to be offset. Whereas other keyboards leave a gap between the F keys and the Escape key, the MX keys just filles in the gap.

I found that it helped a great deal to just mark the function keys. I have two thin slits of white tape, one taped over F1 to F4 and the other taped over F9 to F12. This gives me the visual cue for groups of 4 keys, and I always hit the right function keys without needing to pay any attention to it.

I've also owned this keyboard, the Mac version, and I like Logitech keyboards, I own 4 different ones. As far as the auto on feature for backlighting I think the Logitech 810 does the best job of sensing when your hand is near and it has a much better run time on its battery. There is no dedicated number pad though. The MX Keyboard's battery needs to be recharged about once a week. The auto on sensor for backlighting can be annoying, coming on when something accidentally gets too near. Also, it sometimes takes a few seconds to connect to the dongle on the computer so you need to make sure it's connected before typing anything or you'll lose characters. My biggest gripe about almost all keyboards is, with the number keys on the right side of the unit, your hand placement is off center. You especially feel this when using the keyboard on your lap where the left side of the board feels like it's going to slip off your leg. If the function keys were moved to the left side of the keyboard it would place your hands in a better position. Plus I find it much easier to reach function keys when they're placed to the left. The problem is I have yet to find such a wireless keyboard, especially with auto on backlit keys. I agree about the oversize escape key pushing the function keys over by this odd amount. As far as using the dongle, don't plug it in near a USB 3 socket with anything plugged into it. Interference from it makes using the dongle a real pain. The only solution is to get a USB extension cable and move the dongle closer to the keyboard, as I'm doing right now. Bluetooth can be a problem on Windows and one possible solution is to go into Devices and under one of the Bluetooth properties turn off Let device turn off power (or something to that effect) and uncheck it.
@Antti5
@Antti5 Жыл бұрын
Regarding the dongle: Evidently the new Logitech Bolt receiver is less prone to interference, so you can plug it into a USB 3 connector without issues. They only cost about 15 €.

I've had this keyboard for about a year I think, it's a pleasure to type on. The only issue I have is the one you mentioned with the F keys. I have to pause and check which key I'm pressing, or just guess. It doesn't help that the F numbers are written with smaller print than the alternate function of the key (which is printed on the center, as if it's the main function) and I usually can't read it as fast as I type, because the eye goes to the larger print and not the tiny one in the corner. Some spacing between them instead of a larger escape key would have helped identify them fast. Unfortunately at the moment the "U' key barely works, courtesy of a bouncing kitty. :P Hope I can fix it cause I love this keyboard.

Good review! I have been using an MX Keys for 2 months with a Windows laptop, a Mac Mini and occasionally a MacBook. Basically I love it, but.. As you noted, the F key placements are a pain! I use all the F keys in my work & found it difficult to adapt. I often record music in the evening with low lighting. I find the backlight annoying in that it switches off only 5 seconds after you move your hands away and there is no way to adjust this. The keys are dark grey and the symbols are light grey when unlit, so almost impossible to see in a dimly lit room. Final gripe is that there are no pop out feet to angle the keyboard so I found I was getting RSI with it flat. I built my own custom riser that it now sits on to give it a better angle for me (I use a gel wrist support strip too which made the lower keyboard even more uncomfortable). Oh, final final grip - there is mo num-lock light 😱 Connectivity and battery life have been excellent.

I have one. Love almost everything about it and I agree with your observations about things that are not ok. I will put small rubber feet above and between the F4 and F5 and between F8 and F9 keys, with the goal to let my fingers find the right key without need to look at the keyboard. Also, I found out that when lighting is turned off, the lettering becomes dark grey with almost no contrast with the body of the keys and this is annoying for me. Also I wish the user could choose the time the keyboard remains lit, even at the cost of less battery life. It's good that the keyboard can be used while charging and the lights remain lit for a much longer period.

I have this keyboard tied to my Laptop Mac and my Laptop PC. I had to purchase a KVM monitor switcher so that I could use both laptops on the dual screens I have. Because I use the dongle when I switch between the Mac and the PC my keyboard and mouse switch to that particular laptop I select. The only issue (And this is really if you use it for the setup I have) is that the functions of the keyboard are different because I am using the keyboard for two different operating systems. I spoke to Logitech, who said this can be resolved using the Logi options+ program on my PC. We will see how that works out. The only connection issue I have is when wake up my computers in the morning, sometimes I have to turn the mouse off and back on to get the scroll to start working again. I have a pretty technical setup, so I just need to find out why this occurs. Other than that I love the keyboard and no big issues so far.

Regarding the function keys, it sounds like you're accustomed to one very specific, pretty unusual F-key layout. It's much more common to have the F-keys offset, sometimes just by a little bit, with F1 more closely aligned with 2 than with 1. It's also common to have a sizeable gap between Esc and F1, so the elongated Esc seems like an aesthetic choice that won't impact most users in a practical way.

I agree with the reviewer that the offset of the function keys is a pretty big mistake. The "esc" key is on the end of the row and the easiest key on the entire keyboard to find when it is he same size as other keys, so nothing is gained while forcing experienced touch-typists relearn the placement of function keys. There it no trade-off, -just a major loss of functionality for anyone who. is not new to the use of computer keyboards. Other than that, it is great keyboard and worth the price. I with the numeric keypad could be reprogrammed for word processing commands, but that is another topic. The review is much appreciated.

@@777rogerf I am using it for a few days and I miss the separation of Esc key and the Fn keys, and also the physical separation of F1-F4, F5-F8 and F9-F12. UPDATE: With 3 self-adhesive rubber feet 1mm in height glued right above Esc-F1, F4-F5 and F8-F9, I just slide my fingers on top of the function Keys and these rubber feet give me exactly the tactile feedback I need to find the correct Function key I need!

@@777rogerf Agreed. Making the Escape key wider appears to have been a misguided aesthetic design choice. Probably a side effect of the large corner radius reducing the size of the key. That's a separate issue from the reviewer's comments about the positions of the F row relative to the number row.

Hi - really nice review - thank you. For me though as a software developer (I also write a little VBA/Excel), this keyboard is not ideal. I've been using one now for the past few months and few things really bug me. Firstly, I hardly ever switch between my PC and my other devices, so those three keys are hardly ever used + I end up pressing them when I am using the Insert/Home/Page up keys, so suddenly the keyboard stops working (if I could assign them myself like my StreamDeck - that would be fab). Also, I use the numeric keypad a lot and I find I press the lock button at least once a day - when I actually want the hyphen. Finally, and my biggest irritation - the lack of spacing between the function keys (because of the three device keys). I'm used to keyboards with a space after each four function keys and I use F8 / F5 to skip through my code, which are not easy to see, so I've ended up using stickers to guide me. I do like the keyboard action - but - I'm already on the look out for a better/programmers keyboard - this is definitely not it. Anyhow....moan over....nice video.

This a great review. I have been using the MX Keys since 2020 (so roughly as long as you, I believe). I haven't had any of gaming issues you mentioned. I play quite often with it and the connection seems solid. I did have some issues with the keyboard seemingly disconnecting and reconnecting to the dongle (though, ironically, it was bothering my while typing long texts, not while gaming), and changing the USB position in my PC seemed to have fixed it. One serious issue I have with the MX Keys - perhaps the only big issue I have with it - is the placement of the volume keys shared with the F-keys. This seems like a serious design flaw, as volume keys are a very essential function that should not be placed on shared-function keys. If you have ever been in a situation where you opened a file or link that had really loud audio and your volume level was set high enough that it busted or your ears (if you're on headphones) or, even worse, woken someone up (if you're on speakers) or made everyone around you aware of you (if you're on a public area or workspace), you know the importance of dedicated volume keys so you can immediately cut the sound off. That's specifically why smartphones still have dedicated physical volume keys, despite having gone with virtually all other physical keys. The main issue with Logitech's design choice is that, whenever I'm using the keyboard in F-Key mode instead of Media-Key mode, I essentially lose the one-touch volume control. This would be understandable in a tenkey less or a 75% keyboard (where there's just no physical space to have dedicated volume keys), but I see no excuse for it in a full-sized keyboard. Ironically, its antecessor (the Logitech K800, which I also owned) has the volume keys in the adequate position: above the Numpad. They had it right and, for whatever reason, they messed it up on the MX Keys. Now, I'm very aware I can just remap any of the 4 keys on top of the Numpad (which are all dedicated) to serve as the volume keys, and this solves the issue. But that comes with other problems. The first is that I actually use three of those keys (calculator, print-screen and lock shortcuts) quite a lot, so remapping them to volume keys means I will essentially be losing one of the shortcuts I use. Now, you can say "well, just map the shortcut you lost to the old volume keys"; this when we start making a mess. If I do this, this essentially means that, whenever someone else uses my PC, they will hit the volume key thinking that it's the volume key, but something else will happen because the key has been remapped. What's worse, what they originally wanted to happen (change the volume) won't happen and they won't know how to make it happen because they don't know where the key has been mapped to. That might not be a big problem if you're on a desktop environment (where you can just run the mouse over the volume slider) but if you're playing a Fullscreen game, for example, you can't just use your mouse to change the volume. You'll have to alt+tab your game just to access the volume slider on Windows and, if you happen to be playing an online competitive title, you might be losing a round to do that. So, you see, that's why I try to stick to the labels. I also switch devices quite often, so I could quite easily forget what keys do what if I start to remap everything and would eventually mess it up myself. Not to mention other issues that might show up. For example, the Logitech Options software might glitch/bug and your keyboard might revert back to its default setting at any time. That's going to be some problem for people working on remapped keys, but it shall offer no issue for those running default mapping. The only thing I except from Logitech is that they'll place the keys in the most logical places and not force users to have to adapt to weird shortcut placements.

Logitech should have made the position where the Volume Up key is, as the Mute key. That key is not shared with any Fn key And accordingly, the Mute key should be volume down key. You can do it by remapping. I would even go wild and change the key caps if possible (only the F11 engraving would be misplaced). That will give you a dedicated mute key and anyone would see it.

I've had mine around a year as well. My only real complaint is I've had some issues Logitech Options, but this has mainly effected the accompanying mouse (MX Master 3). Using them together as you can move from one computer to another (copying links for example) which is very nice, but occassionally it doesn't work well. Generally though, it's a really nice keyboard.

Love this keyboard... My main complaint is that the LED on the 3 device switch keys don't stay lit. There's no immediate feedback to know at a glance which device you're on. I use flow to go between a mac and PC on device 1. The other 2 device buttons are linked to an iPad and a phone. Yes, I use them all frequently in my work day. I bought the MX hoping to use one keyboard alone... The number of times I type into the wrong device has me thinking I'll need an MX mini for the secondary devices. Also, having the device switch for the MX master mouse is just dumb. It is otherwise also an amazing productivity device. Both still worth every penny.

Standar keyboards have short ESC key, but space between ESC and F1, so in final MX Keys have typical full size keyboard position of F1 key. Standar keyboard layout even have some spaece between F4 and F5 and between F8 and F9 keys. MX Keys and especially that white logitech keyboard are more compact design and top keys row even accomodate extra key.

The dongle / bluetooth connectivity features are great on this keyboard, as is the battery life, concave keys and typing experience. The negatives are the shared media / function keys (Bad for programmers), the LED lights not always triggering on hand detection and that several key perks require Logitech software install to take advantage off (Not possible on many employers work machines).

The lights aren't reliable regardless of software. I tried 2 and both had the same issues. Mine would "over" trigger. Anything or nothing trigger them, I could leave it in a dark room, or a fully lit room, stand back and watch the lights randomly come on.

@@CrunchyTire I didnt say the light issue was caused by software, thats a hardware feature as it uses a magnetic field proximity sensor. Logitech Flow and programmable buttons however are restricted to software if you want to use them.

I used an MX Keys for Mac for about 3 years before it started acting up. A row of keys became unresponsive at times. Sometimes the entire row, other times individual keys. The backlighting failed on the majority of the keyboard at the end. When working good it was great. At the time of purchase it was almost 1/2 the price of an Apple Magic keyboard. FWIW, I replaced the faulty MX Keys with another one. So despite the issues I had I felt the keyboard was still a good one. And yes I do also have the MX Master 3 mouse which has been fantastic other than a PIA when the scroll wheel needs to be deep cleaned.

I have mx keys, bought it because I use both window and mac at the same desk. works well for the most part, similar typing experience to macbook pro except the keys are a bit more sticky, gets some time to get used to that but the travel between keys and their size is as good as it gets. Tried magic keyboard as well, solves the stiky issue but less compatible with windows (not impossible to use but a pain in the ass). I had no conectivity issues at all. Logitech mxkeys also provides some customizations in app, if you want the fn keys remapped it's possible (not using this feature because I set up custom macros in keyboard maestro on mac, but quite useful on windows if you're working corporate and can't install other apps, Logi Options+ is generally approved because you can just say you need it to function properly and it has the necessary drivers)

Great review 👏 I bought this keyboard, and it's one minor issue with it. Yours got normal "long" right shift key. My doesn't. 😞 It's a huge discomfort for me. I type quick and use a left hand to shift... In other way it's a best keyboard! 👌 but in my country you can buy a version with long left shift.

I consider myself a power user as I tend to use most of its functionality. I did get it at a discount (75usd new). I find the layout ideal as the shared Function buttons is something most laptops do. I come from using a toshiba laptop with a very similar spacing so this felt very confortable and I have found that I'm able to type much faster and more precise than with a mechanical keyboard or my laptop (cant vouch for it if you come from a standard mechancal keyboard.) I must add that I have it paired with an mx master 3. I have a lot of functions and macros programed in to both. The software, Logi options is highly customizable, but it is buggy AF. It will revert to default settings randomly. It is also a shame than switching between devices is not as nice as it could have been. When not using Flow, you must manually change each one while switching between devices. Pressing the key board is easy, but having to press the button underneath the mouse brakes the flow. They should have made it so you could switch both devices by just using the keyboard. I also wish you could customize more buttons than just the function keys. Also, it doesn't come with a "\" symbol. If you are a programmer it might be a pain in the ass, although you could potentially remap one of the function buttons with a macro that types the asci code. I have had no wireless issues so far. And I sometimes play LOL. Non the less, I feel its a great keyboard. I mostly use it to open and close programs and files I use frequently and do get a high productivity boost. Cant say it is worth it to you, but for my case use, it has been very pleasant and useful.

Great review. In regards to the ESC key, I think it's pretty common for full-size keyboards to have a gap between the ESC key and the F1 key--the F1 key is often directly above the 2/@ key. So the wider ESC key on this keyboard and the placement of the function keys isn't unusual. Just my observation. I'm interested in this keyboard to replace my Keychron K2 which isn't all that reliable when switching between MacOS and Windows and I want a full size layout. Really hoping Logitech will release a mechanical switch version of this

Funny thing the habits one gets. I hear the same thing for numpad from many people and I asked my niece who kinda grow up with a laptop only and not a full size keyboard. When I asked her to use a keyboard with numpad and tell me what she thinks after a few days her answer was: "why would I want to use that? the numbers are right on top of the other keys and I don't have to move my right hand . It does not make sense" :D I laughed so much, because , like me, people that got used to full keyboards find numpad to be much easier. I think she is right though, although once you get used to something, muscle memory makes it very hard to forget.

That’s a great story, thanks for sharing! I’ve seen similar things even with just younger work colleagues who are simply accustomed to the a laptop keyboard. My first ever laptop was a big 17 incher with a cramped number pad on the side. But yeah, now that most kids will grow up without the number pad at all, it’s probably on its way out in the long term. Or at least it will become reserved for some “retro” productivity nerds. 😂

I've had mine for about two years now. I type a lot for my job so mine is well worn as well. I haven't had any connectivity issues with mine but recently I've noticed my period (.) button is starting to fail. Unfortunate, but understandable. Despite it's price and some gripes about layout similar to Cameron's, I think I'll replace it with another Keys. It's just that good and I don't know of anything that offers a similar experience for non-gamers that use keyboards for typing.
