Her gun at the end was a revolver that held six rounds. She put two in her boss and one in her mother, leaving three. She pointed it at the doll and squeezed the trigger three times, each one a misfire, the odds of which are near to impossible... she literally couldn't destroy the doll. Thus her boss's kid is gonna remain in a vegetative until the killings inevitably start up again.

Even Perkins has said the title “Longlegs” doesn’t have a solid meaning, that it’s more evocative than anything…but it gives me the impression that he was a spider hanging out in her basement and tangling them up in a web. It’s my own interpretation, of course, but that sprung immediately to mind when that was revealed.

The director of Re-Animator said it best…When you see something so horrible you react with a laugh to protect yourself, the most comedic moments from this movie are also the absolute most disturbing moments of the movie, it’s why comedy and horror go hand in hand so well, for example there are several moments from the original Texas chainsaw massacre that are genuinely comedic but instead we are scared.

One of the most disturbing parts of this movie for me was the mother's detachment from her daughter. There's no warmth from her when Lee calls her looking for some comfort. The way she hugs her feels cold. It reminds me of the feeling I got from Piper Laurie in Carrie, especially at the end when Carrie says, "Please hold me, Momma." But she only lightly touches her and seems completely disinterested in her daughter's pain. Indifference from a parent is deeply painful.

I think its the camera angles. the way they show certain scenes that have a door behind the character for example, or a creepy black window at night, a dark hallway just there out of focus. there's alot of empty spaces for us to look and be extra paranoid. that's probably not just this but I felt that way while watching it; always checking the background instead of the characters haha. I’d say that’s a bit of a pretentious explanation and generalization on why people weren’t satisfied with this movie. A good majority of audiences don’t even want jump scares anymore as they feel it’s too telegraphed and a cheap scare. However, every now and then a movie uses jump scares effectively, ie Smile. The main reason people were disappointed with this movie is because of the critics, both professional and KZbinrs. Critics were hyping this move up to be one of the scariest movies of all time. It was everywhere when this movie was about to hit theaters. General audiences went in expecting something else entirely than what this movie is. And as genius as the cinematography and directing is in this film, it’s not very well written. Too many plot holes to give it the title of “amazing” in my opinion.

Lol what :D I didn’t but i was still extremely disappointed.. everyone was saying it’s up there with silence of the lambs for example.. and that it’s super scary. i read an amazing analysis of this movie that connected it to familial abuse and violence. from the beginning, we hear about the birthdays, and then we hear that ruby's birthday is soon, and WE know that means Ruby's doomed from the start. But Carter can't see it because that's his family. Yeah, this case is full of fathers killing their families, but he's so convinced that somehow someone else has to be doing it, because he can't let himself fathom how a father could kill his own child-- so he also stays blind to his own involvement. And I think that odd slip at the end where he snaps at his wife about "it was your stupid f***ing idea" is meant to indicate that actually, that capacity for violence WAS always in him, he WAS always capable of killing his family. at the same time, Lee is blind to her mother's involvement because that's her mother. Her mother has always protected her, so she can't possibly be standing aside and letting violence and abuse happen. She can't be enabling it. Both of these things are easily linked to the central theme, these things DO happen in families, and the more people try to act like it's a wild rare anomaly and that family units are sacred, unbreakable things that can only be destroyed from the outside, the longer these patterns of abuse are allowed to continue.

I am enjoying Oz Perkin's filmmaking talents. I'd been waiting to experience whatever his next project would be since watching his previous film "The Blackcoat's Daughter", and he hasn't disappointed. His ability to cultivate mood, atmosphere, unease, and a slightly off-kilter and somber sense of time and place, invites the viewer to empathize with the emotional and mental state of the characters. "The Blackcoat's Daughter" employs a similar approach.

Oz Perkins is the son of Legendary horror actor Anthony Perkins, aka Norman Bates of the movie PSYCHO… I'm sure someone else in the comments may have mentioned this 😅

I interpreted the ending as "Mr. Downstairs" winning. The moment Lee killed her mom and prevented Ms. Ruby from being killed the deal that protected her from Mr. Downstairs was broken, giving him access to possess Lee and force her to do his bidding from now on.

All future horror movies should follow the way Longlegs did their trailer. Its engaging but not giving away a lot of the story. As for the movie, its a nice disturbing movie not the scariest but it somehow works though it had no business running for almost 2 hrs. Its still better than Maxxxine tho(it was such a let down) Still waiting for hollywood horror movies to reach the level of fear that asian horror instills in my soul.

Absolutely loved you guys reaction and analysis of this film. I had never seen a trailer (and didn’t want to), but I showed up for Oz Perkins. I highly recommend The Blackcoat’s Daughter. Another Oz Perkins film with a similar sense of dread, but very different story. I think you guys would really like it!

It's often difficult to create a film with an oppressive sense of dread (verses loud music cues and predictable jump scares), but Perkins definitely pulled it off with this highly atmospheric movie.

Many people don’t know that Oz Perkins is the son of the late Anthony Perkins, the actor best known for playing Norman Bates in Psycho. His mother was actress Berry Berenson who tragically died aboard Flight 11 on 9/11.

Leaving you guys a like and a comment for now because I want to see the movie myself. 😅 I'll be back once I watch it! EDIT: I just watched this tonight and I'm scared. 😂 I have a love-hate relationship with how they filmed some scenes with like a wide angle that gives so much space in the backgroumd and almost feels like something's gonna pop up. Sometimes, I just kept looking at the background to see if something's there but nothing's there 😂 This movie is refreshing from all the jumpscary movies but it made me so uncomfortable throughout. Also, I couldn't even think of the plot twists because of how uncomfortable I was watching the movie. 😭😂

Man it’s a good intensity of horror movie. I heard or seen an interview with Nicolas Cage and said he doesn’t like this character and don’t wanna play a character like never again. But the detective life is spot on too.

I remember going to see this with a bunch of friends on the opening night. We just sat in awe of wtf we were watching. I remember when asked about it the first things I said were "well it was certainly an experience" and laughed. This was such a strange movie but after Nicholas Cages recent movies I wasn't suprised. He just keeps upping the ante with these indie movies and I'm completely here for it. I can't wait for his next one. I think Mandy was one of my recent favorites he made.

This was a phenomenal movie. I've seen ir three times. Osgood knows how to make creepy, atmospheric horror films filled with relentless dread. He also did I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives In the House and The Blackcoat's Daughter. I was initially puzzked at why Lee's boss was so hostile towards her at the station, when Longlegs was in custody, and I think it was because he was already being influenced by the doll. Anyway..... 9/10 movie. 😗 Oh, Osgood said in a recent interview that it was the Devil's plan all along, to get Lee to kill her mother in addition to corrupting the other families. For fun....

Normally I'm not into religion based horror because it's, in my opinion, a very uninteresting formula. But this was a gem to watch because it became more of a psychological horror than a slasher or monster flick. As you guys said, this played with my anxiety and my sense of paranoia....because I too took on the habit of checking every damn shadow and corner of each shot looking for something fucked up. This was great!

This movie was such a trip. I have seen Nick Cage play some weird roles but this one by far takes the cake. The only thing i wished they did was explain the orb a little more on how it controls the people... like does it just hypnotize them with that sound or are they possessed by it... or maybe i just missed that part? Thank you guys for all the amazing reviews. If you haven't seen Willy's Wonderland yet you should check out that Nick Cage movie. He literally has 0 lines as the main character in it but his acting is still absolutely amazing. Keep on rocking and hope you guys have an amazing day 🤘

Love Oz Perkins. His film I Am The Pretty Thing is a slow burn of a watch, not something you put on the channel, imo, but watch alone in the dark. It's also made for his father, Anthony Perkins(passed sept 12th, '92). His mother was Berry Berenson, famous model and photographer from the 70's, and passed away in the 9/11 terror attacks, nearly nine years to the day of Anthony Perkins.
It’s all not real
