Her gun at the end was a revolver that held six rounds. She put two in her boss and one in her mother, leaving three. The director of Re-Animator said it best…When you see something so horrible you react with a laugh to protect yourself, the most comedic moments from this movie are also the absolute most disturbing moments of the movie, it’s why comedy and horror go hand in hand so well, for example there are several moments from the original Texas chainsaw massacre that are genuinely comedic but instead we are scared.

One of the most disturbing parts of this movie for me was the mother's detachment from her daughter. There's no warmth from her when Lee calls her looking for some comfort. The way she hugs her feels cold. It reminds me of the feeling I got from Piper Laurie in Carrie, especially at the end when Carrie says, "Please hold me, Momma." But she only lightly touches her and seems completely disinterested in her daughter's pain. Indifference from a parent is deeply painful.

I’d say that’s a bit of a pretentious explanation and generalization on why people weren’t satisfied with this movie. A good majority of audiences don’t even want jump scares anymore as they feel it’s too telegraphed and a cheap scare. However, every now and then a movie uses jump scares effectively, ie Smile. The main reason people were disappointed with this movie is because of the critics, both professional and KZbinrs. Critics were hyping this move up to be one of the scariest movies of all time. It was everywhere when this movie was about to hit theaters. General audiences went in expecting something else entirely than what this movie is. And as genius as the cinematography and directing is in this film, it’s not very well written. Too many plot holes to give it the title of “amazing” in my opinion.
@ville13455 ай бұрын
Lol what :D I didn’t but i was still extremely disappointed.. everyone was saying it’s up there with silence of the lambs for example.. and that it’s super scary. i read an amazing analysis of this movie that connected it to familial abuse and violence. from the beginning, we hear about the birthdays, and then we hear that ruby's birthday is soon, and WE know that means Ruby's doomed from the start. But Carter can't see it because that's his family. Yeah, this case is full of fathers killing their families, but he's so convinced that somehow someone else has to be doing it, because he can't let himself fathom how a father could kill his own child-- so he also stays blind to his own involvement. And I think that odd slip at the end where he snaps at his wife about "it was your stupid f***ing idea" is meant to indicate that actually, that capacity for violence WAS always in him, he WAS always capable of killing his family. at the same time, Lee is blind to her mother's involvement because that's her mother. Her mother has always protected her, so she can't possibly be standing aside and letting violence and abuse happen. She can't be enabling it. Both of these things are easily linked to the central theme, these things DO happen in families, and the more people try to act like it's a wild rare anomaly and that family units are sacred, unbreakable things that can only be destroyed from the outside, the longer these patterns of abuse are allowed to continue.

Man it’s a good intensity of horror movie. I heard or seen an interview with Nicolas Cage and said he doesn’t like this character and don’t wanna play a character like never again. But the detective life is spot on too.

3:53 " he really gets to stretch his wings as an actor " ... missed opportunity to say " he really gets to stretch his legs as an actor " ... since its Longlegs...

When you said this movie made you feel different than anything you’ve ever watched . I felt that in a whole notha level . I’m a big fan of horror , but this movie, after experiencing in theaters, will forever standout in its own way. And I’m forever scarred from it

People were saying that this movie wasn't scary, but I disagree. Instead of jumpscares they rely on suspense and atmosphere, and they do a really good job of it.

Yeah that home she grew up in was creepy in itself. Lol.

I remember going to see this with a bunch of friends on the opening night. We just sat in awe of wtf we were watching. I remember when asked about it the first things I said were "well it was certainly an experience" and laughed. This was such a strange movie but after Nicholas Cages recent movies I wasn't suprised. He just keeps upping the ante with these indie movies and I'm completely here for it. I can't wait for his next one. I think Mandy was one of my recent favorites he made.

This was a phenomenal movie. I've seen ir three times. Osgood knows how to make creepy, atmospheric horror films filled with relentless dread. He also did I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives In the House and The Blackcoat's Daughter. I was initially puzzked at why Lee's boss was so hostile towards her at the station, when Longlegs was in custody, and I think it was because he was already being influenced by the doll. Anyway..... 9/10 movie. 😗 Oh, Osgood said in a recent interview that it was the Devil's plan all along, to get Lee to kill her mother in addition to corrupting the other families. For fun....

Since y’all liked this you should watch Mandy. One of my favorite Nic Cage movies and in my opinion the perfect role for him. Super artsy and bizarre. I think you’d love it.

He’s so good in that. He also suits Prisoners of the Ghostland as if it were designed for him.

I highly recommend the movie "Orphan" from 2009. It was such a well-made movie with a great cast, script and story. It had me on the edge of my seat like "Aliens" did. Both "Orphan" and "Aliens" are 2 of my favorite films of all time.

I literally didn't know Oz Perkins was an actor - other than Nope - I only know him from movies he directed.

Great review and reaction. By the way, I kept hearing the sound from the dolls' brains throughout the film but at a subtle, low volume.

Normally I'm not into religion based horror because it's, in my opinion, a very uninteresting formula. But this was a gem to watch because it became more of a psychological horror than a slasher or monster flick. As you guys said, this played with my anxiety and my sense of paranoia....because I too took on the habit of checking every damn shadow and corner of each shot looking for something fucked up. This was great!

Never heard of this movie. Wow, it seems like it would make you tense the entire movie the way it was shot. Thanks for sharing.

The Rorchach, Black and White Inkblot, Psychological interpretation Test, is given in a variety of settings and for a variety of reasons. The most famous example is the moth or butterfly visual, which is judged to be the answer of most subjects 39% of the time. Loved watching this movie with you. Thanks so much, Sharon

i saw this in theaters and that opening scene scare made my legs go completely numb. after marketing the movie without showing cage’s face and then doing that? i was sooo sold. it is one of my top movies of the year. i’m so glad you guys enjoyed it 🫶

This movie was such a trip. I have seen Nick Cage play some weird roles but this one by far takes the cake. The only thing i wished they did was explain the orb a little more on how it controls the people... like does it just hypnotize them with that sound or are they possessed by it... or maybe i just missed that part? Thank you guys for all the amazing reviews. If you haven't seen Willy's Wonderland yet you should check out that Nick Cage movie. He literally has 0 lines as the main character in it but his acting is still absolutely amazing. Keep on rocking and hope you guys have an amazing day 🤘

Watch suggestion: Osgood Perkin's other film 'The Blackcoat's Daughter'. Soooo freaking unsettling.

Love Oz Perkins. His film I Am The Pretty Thing is a slow burn of a watch, not something you put on the channel, imo, but watch alone in the dark. It's also made for his father, Anthony Perkins(passed sept 12th, '92). His mother was Berry Berenson, famous model and photographer from the 70's, and passed away in the 9/11 terror attacks, nearly nine years to the day of Anthony Perkins.
