Having built a few decks here in Tasmania I highly recommend Cutex Extreme decking oil. Great product for climates where weather is a factor. To prevent/delay silvering you will need to tint the product. The company has a variety of those also available. Hope that helps and love your channel. Regards Nick.

Too late now but when I put in posts I like to put 4 inch screws in the post about 1/2 way. The screws go where you pour the concrete and hence keeps wood shrinkage from creating any wobble. Mostly do this for railings but still a good practice.

My mum, from NZ, rang my Australian wife, one day.( I was at the time building a large deck) She asked in her very NZ accent, "How is Rune's big deck going, is it going good?" This was early on in our relationship, my wife was shocked/flabbergasted. You can imagine what she thought she said!!

Greetings from Czech Republic, i have worked for years in Norway and i have learned alot obout wood working there. Now I´m back in Czech and started mine comprany few years ago, we dont have such as big market when it comes to wooden houses but we working on many prject - decks , terraces etc.. but the pilons or stands directly in concrete are pure evil ... they will get rotten rather sonner than later , i mean i really loving your content and i took alot of inspiration , dont take it bad but wood in concrete can work in short time but i would use some steel inbetween concrete and wood ... whatever iˇm loving your shit you do ;-)
@bachaddict Жыл бұрын
do you also use treated wood? it lasts a long time
@billbriggs2309 Жыл бұрын
I wondered about that too. I live in Connecticut. I would never pour concrete around a wood post, even if it's rated for ground contact, PT wood doesn't last for ever. I just saw a decking board rot completely through that wasn't even close to the ground.

Hot tip.. Ive always stained the top of joists before laying decking, for two reasons 1. It helps add more protection to the joist to help delay rot, and 2. When the deck gaps open up in summer you dont see pine coloured joists. Using matching stain chosen for decking of course 👌

A bit surprised you didn't lay a strip of the rubbery plastic along the tops of your beams. The rot proofing only goes so deep and water runs onto the top of the beams & soaks into the nail holes which leads to interior rot in the beams and corrosion of the fasteners by electrolysis. My neighbors are looking to have to replace their entire back deck because one of the previous owners cheaped out by not putting any weather stripping on the beams so the deck fasteners rusted out and water has gotten inside the main beams - they did install the plastic stripping when they had to renail the decking but the beams are on the way out. But you do get Evil Points for breaking the auto captions function - not only did it fail on 'Deck' many times, but it even started calling hammering and traffic noise as 'foreign language'.
