Getting rid of the early bird was a mistake imo. It needed to be revamped for sure, maybe just have a unique menu for everyone or just 2-3 choices of main dishes with everyone getting the same entree (like a tomato/mozzarella with basil flavored olive oil), a dessert and a glass of wine. They could easily have made a different menu for each day of the week like Monday pasta, Tuesday gnocchi, Wednesday lasagna, etc All simple, low cost and easy to make dishes could have brought an easy 400-500 extra $ a day. The night customers and early birds were clearly 2 different market segments, getting rid of early bird did not bring the old ladies to the table at night, it just got rid of them entirely.

For anyone wondering: the restaurant was seized by the state 6 months after for not paying taxes, however it’s still a happy ending. Anthony and Tiffany are still happily married and have three children. Anthony is currently working as Executive Chef at Cirella’s Restaurant and Bar over in New York.

Around 80% of new business close their doors in the first year and it's really sad that some of these business close down although they look like they're doing well.

Honestly, though I like Gordon and really enjoy watching his show, but he is more of a celebrity TV chef than Michelin star chef. Real Michelin three star restaurants are very nice. He may be able to cook some decent food but he’s not really a Michelin star restaurant chef honestly. He’s fun to watch and very entertaining. I live in a country with the highest number of Michelin star restaurants (Japan) and I live in Tokyo with so many Michelin star restaurants from all over the world and have dined in three star Michelin restaurants a number of times. None of his restaurants have three stars actually. A few only have one star and one in France has two but that’s about it. Two star is just ok. One star is umm not something to brag about and they’re usually either hit or miss depending on the menu selections. Actually most of his restaurants don’t even have any stars and most of the restaurants he opened in international locations are closed. When you cannot be successful in international locations, it tells me it’s not the best. He probably serves decent meals and entertaining to watch, but not like those three star Michelin star restaurant chef.

Blows my mind how so many of these restaurants don't even taste their own food. I worked at a very successful, well-known restaurant when I was in college. While we were training, we were required to taste every appetizer and entree on the menu. If there was a special, the entire staff would taste them before service and share small plates. The only exceptions to this rule were food allergies. Every night the entire restaurant was cleaned. Every Monday it was deep cleaned, and once every two months everything in both the kitchen and dining room was moved and it'd get a professional cleaning, including pressure washing the exhaust. The kitchen was immaculate, and we knew not only every item on the menu, but where it came from. If we couldn't meet those minimum requirements, we wouldn't have a job. That restaurant is still there today, and I'd bet it's kept up to the same standards it was when I worked there 20 years ago.

What Happened Next? Trobiano's closed in October 2008 as the restaurant was seized by the state for not paying taxes. Anthony became a Chef at Speranza Food Studio which closed in 2011. Honestly, episodes like this a reminder that the restaurant not surviving after the episode airs doesn't always mean it's an unhappy ending, or even that Gordon failed. It's been noted, mostly with the US version of the show (but the UK one as well, to a certain extent), that Gordon often plays the role of a family counsellor or a therapist in this show, and it is honestly a necessary part of trying to turn around a business. You can't run a tight ship if the owners/staff are quarrelling all the time, or are distant, and a personal venture like a small business is just that: personal. The restaurant was closed six months later, seized due to unpaid taxes. However, Anthony and Tiffany are still happily married in a family of five, and he's working as an executive chef in a restaurant in New York. There have also been episodes where after the show, the restaurant closed but the owner was much happier with their life, and really that's the most important thing.

@@jakejancook While thats true, you cant completely control where mice go sometimes, but if you clean properly every day you would notice the droppings (especially on a food surface) it would be caught and dealt with immediately. Mice can quickly get out of control if you arent aware of it because of lackadaisical cleaning routines. While it wasnt the worse kitchen we've seen on the show, I worked at a burger king as a teenager 22 years ago that was cleaner than that kitchen was.

This is common practice in all similar TV genres, you never want to end up with filming / cutting / production issues or similar in the middle of airing a season - so it 100% makes sense to film everything in advance. Especially considering some started episodes might fail and never get aired completely - as well as some shows adding short notes about what happened a while after an episode was filmed.. So no matter whether I agree with your thoughts about this show's quality (btw why exactly are you here if you think it's bad?), filming everything in advance can only improve any show's quality.

@@ryancook7107 just a random point but I have a friend who is a dj, she was paying taxes on her dj earnings and the UK equivalent of the IRS checked online, looked thru magazines and any other advertising they could for all the listings of her dj gigs, rang her management company to enquire about a booking - to find out how much she charges and then served her with a huge tax bill. And she couldn't accept that she was in the wrong. She blamed the magazines, and all the other FREE advertising she was getting! I've literally just heard about it so apologies for boring you guys with it. I guess during lock down they had more chance to go after people like that. It's funny to me that people can't accept theyre responsible to keep on top of their own taxes! Speaking of the restaurant - As much as it would kill me, I would rather owe suppliers than owe the government. The fruit wholesalers aren't going to come and close down your business! Seriously tho, I hope the parents didn't lose their home. They seem like good people that got screwed by their son in law.
