Now that I know how this map is supposed to work I like it even more. 1. Your main source of income is fishing and trade, so protecting your docks become unusually important. 2. You gain resources and technologies by raidinging outposts and the villages. 3. You can donate resources to your more powerful ally and have them do the heavy lifting. 4. You can get a neutral faction to help out with the raiding.

The best strat: HUGE amount of guard towers full upgrades to protect fishing ships. So you don't have to worry about water and you can have food income for most of the time and focus elsewhere.

Yes, also gold income. 4 guard towers was enough for me

For anyone struggling on this mission, if you kill the 4 docks in the south they wont remake them and you can go full water boom and trade. What I did is just put all vills on wood at the start and spam ships.

i just redock at upside left - outside the base. Fishingships will never get attacked there. And just 5 towers infront of the water with heatshot, will keep every navy away the whole game.

I cheesed this whole campaign spamming towers. 10 towers with full upgrades on that southern sea ridge on the right of the docks, and then they never touch your fish and trade cogs the rest of the mission

Also just add docks at the shoreline to the north, no need for fish traps if they drop off there. Your towers take care of the defense.

taking water was probably the intended strat, once you get rid of greens docks, you can trade and fish all you like for resources

I quite didn't get the point to waste wood on fishtraps, when the map is full of fish and left of the base is a free place to build a harbour which never will get attacked....

Just beat this third try on Hard, with my entire population dead and enemies pulling down my base. They didn't have time to get the second Acre castle or the sole Tripoli castle down. 8-10 guard towers with Heated Shot are basically a necessity for defending trade cogs and fishing ships. Beyond that, you really, really have to commit to boat spam if you want to take out the docks. 17-20 fire ships will get torn right up by green's towers and constant stream of fires and war galleys before even taking down a single dock. That's as much as I managed. Also, ignore the Ilkhanate. They're a complete waste of money.

See I never tried to fight the navy, just built a tonne of towers on that southern ridge and then a dock inbetween cities for fish then cavalier spam with trade cogs and fishing ships

bruh i played this on hard and lost a second castle with a whopping 2 minutes on the timer i was so pissed off then i tried it on easy and it was an absolute and utter joke no enemy got near my cities and instead i was out and about destroying castles with longbowmen takes about a trillion years but is stupid funny

42:50 exactly. Viper is 31 pop at the end of the scenario and the AI is still struggling to push him. He didnt redock between his base and blue, he lost 23 vils, he almost never garrisoned towers or used mangonels behind the walls. The issue with most of the AoE2 campaigns, even those of the new DLC, is that even when played on hard they arent "that challenging"

You forgot also, that he didnt build enough towers to protect from water and he didnt build any trade, which is massive gold income here. But yeah absolutly correct.

I agree, I know they want to cater to players with a greater range of skills, but maybe something like very hard for all campaigns which actually forces you to be optimal and test your skills would be very nice

@@tcsiyic3584 there is nothing wrong with leaving the current difficulty levels, but IMO there should be a very hard/extreme difficulty where the campaign levels are actually challenging. The issue there is that basically requires a complete repass over the entire level and the AI triggers, and that by no means is on the top of the devs list

AOC campaigns were more difficult than in DE. I think anyone who played both, will confirm that. Video games became easier is those 20 years that passed. Almost anything in games is easier in 2021 than it was in 2000.

I honestly love the design of this level, I honestly wish the teutonic were way weaker, with them active it's way too easy, with them chilling is much closer in difficulty to Bari 6, not a lot of res and you need to survive
