It consisted of a cleansing diet, meditation, affirmations, and a number of breathing exercises. After that semester my grade point increased dramatically. @ArtyAntics4 жыл бұрын
J Rose the trick is to keep doing it even when it doesn’t work, until it does. You have neural pathways that become automatic, you are basically rewiring them so that breathing soothes the ANS and that becomes your first response to anxiety in stead of flight fight and freeze. I practiced when calm to notice how it felt in my body to breathe and then when I’m anxious I breath until I feel the same as when I’m calm. Doesn’t mean I never feel anxious but I recover faster and have less panic attacks. Enough to ditch my anxiety meds and the side effects.

Pranayama has several systems of breathing including relaxation and it is nice to now see doctors and scientists advocate this millenia old practice for better health. @Daisy Isawhore, (ha ha on moniker, I only noticed when writing it here). I'm not sure your hypothesis works very well. Some of the biggest guys you see in an orchestra are often in the brass section; particularly low brass that requires a lot of air. (Although I have heard that playing flute requires a lot of air, perhaps as much as tuba, which is quite counter-intuitive). Maybe it's just that brass players are medicating with alcohol before performances? ha ha.

@@jamesblue4161 No one needs to demonstrate to you how to do the breathing. You are already doing it... just slow it down. Preferably, sit down in a relaxed manner. Inhale (slow breaths in) for 5 seconds, and then exhale (slow breaths out) for 6 seconds. Practice this for 5 - 10 minutes twice a day. You can even do this standing up or laying down. Do the breathing exercises in bed before sleep to help you get a good night's sleep. Both ways help you to relax. You can do it!

Fantastic information and presentation as always, and this video's information goes to the core of my entire life. This information should be part of the education requirements in school, along with all the other food education that needs to be updated. I have always been an extremely anxious person, and I live with PTSD triggered by the first Gulf War experiences ( US Air Force Vet). I lived my worst PTSD symptoms in my late 20's after the military, and when I was 39, I felt shortness of breath and chest pains, which required a stent on my LAD artery. Three years later, I needed another stent. Shortly after that, I was on the path to a high of an A1C of 9.9. Last year, I decided I needed to take control of my health for once and for all long term. On September 5th, 2018, I started exercising and cutting down on carbs. Shortly after that, I discovered your videos and the benefits of going Keto for total health, including diabetes, and inflammation. Your videos have educated and motivated me to keep on track towards a healthier and happier life. I've been on Keto and building my intermittent fasting since October and exercising 4-5 days a week following your aerobic guidelines. I now fast 18 hours per day, and As of today, I've lost 23lbs. More importantly, my A1C last week came back at 5.8, and I feel better than ever. My triglycerides are lower than ever at 59, and my HDL is higher than ever at 49. (I'm still on atorvastatin 40mg per day,) Your video on these breathing exercises is precisely the new habit I need and want to develop. Thank you, Dr. Ekberg!

Thanks. This ties in with a 1970s article in Readers Digest which sought to promote deep breathing exercises. They suggested that many desk-bound people lost some breathing function by chronic shallow breathing. As you have mentioned in other videos, there are several sets of muscles involved in breathing and a desk-bound job reduces breathing to just the work of the diaphragm. Like you, they suggested deep breathing starting with breathing in while raising your arms to expand the chest cavity to maximum. Then they said to exhale slowly whilst moving into a crouched position. They suggested doing this for about 10 minutes a week.

I began practicing this breathing technique and within a week I saw a marked difference in my stomach. I am over joyed. I practice about 5-6xs a week. I keep my hand over my belly to ensure I really pulling in my stomach. It works and doesnt take much time. Domt so.this to music.. really focus on breathing in while pushing out your stomach. Then double that time while breathing out. I mean really push all the air out while pulling in your entire stomach. I practive.while laying on the floor so gravity can assist and I have to maintain my shoulder blades on the floor. It works!.

Meditation is all about breathing so I think that's why people who do meditation on a regular basis don't have a big belly. Just my thought!

This is so true. I just couldn't figure out why I wasn't losing belly fat even though I was going to the gym 7 days a week so I changed my job to a less stressful one and found that my belly fat reduced even though I wasn't going to the gym any more.

This is really enlightening on the benefit of the recommended breathing pattern. A yoga class I take uses it and now I understand the health benefits. This is very positively motivating. Thanks!

Is this what “pranayama” or yogic breathing is all about? I always tried to flip it during a yoga class even though the instructors constantly insist of it’s benefits for body and mind. Now it all ties together. So happy I run into your Chanel grateful for your willingness to share your wisdom.

Hi Dr! It would really help if you had some demonstrations...either you do it or have someone else do it...but it helps a lot..some of us learn by seeing. But thank you for this I'm going to try it.
