I recently fell down a deep rabbit hole while doing research for an upcoming video. What started as research hoping for some leads on some banned episodes that went under my radar, turned into a wild goose chase for a piece of lost media that may not even exist to begin with. I'm a sucker for a good deep dive for some lore behind a piece of lost media, which is why today we look into the deep dark trenches of the internet in hopes of uncovering the lost banned episode of Hey Arnold titled The Big Bleeper. Sit down and buckle up as we descend into the deep rabbit hole of conspiracy. Also, special thanks to Turner Broadcasting for blocking the last video I tried to upload and gifting me with a copyright strike regardless of fair use law. You Suck eggs Turner Broadcasting...

Tbh I think people a reminiscing more so on the fact that Arnold himself was a pretty wholesome dude, and I guess that's just trickling on to the rest of the show. But I can definitely remember some not so wholesome episodes. Like that picture man clipped they showed, Arnold just to watch a man who clearly had mental issues eat himself off a roof. There's also an episode when a guy, I think his name was ernie, it's basically stalking a woman and are noticed too young and naive to realize that's wrong. I can't remember his name, but there's that one tenant that had to give up his daughter so she could be safe. And I think at one point one of the kids had to realize that their parents have become broke, and she was genuinely concerned about things like being homeless. Yea, it had wholesome moments, but the thing about the show is that it wasn't trying to be so wholesome that it didn't deter away from heavier topics.

I remember when "Rugrats" also had an episode that involved swearing ("The Word Of The Day"), in which Angelica hears her favorite TV star insulting the kids who watch her show by saying a vulgar word about them, and Angelica thinks that the word is a special phrase, so she ends up saying it in front of her parents. It's a bot article written using tools like 'Markov Chains'. Markov Chain is a stochastic process describing a sequence of possible events in which the probability of each event depends only on the state attained in the previous event. Basically they're choosing what to write next based on what was written in the previous portion that it just wrote. That's why it's nonsense but appears to almost be written by a person. It's using a database that links that data as connected; and it's choosing to use that specific connected data. Ex: Hey Arnold = cartoon, now they can link any data that's labeled 'cartoon' in their database (very oversimplified explanation).

Absolutely none of this supposed episode makes any sense in context of the show. I could see Helga letting loose with a decent swear word in one of her rages, and there being significant fallout from it (the show does an extremely good job of holding the characters to account for their actions in a realistic way), but.. the kids randomly swearing left right and center for no reason, and hijacking a radio station? If there was an episode like this that caused that much controversy, it would have been blown out of proportion by some news outlet. It would have been a well known staple in the Hey Arnold fandom, as most lost/incomplete/rumored episodes regularly become legend in fandoms. And even then, it follows the same structure as most "don't swear, Kids" cartoons, especially that Arthur episode. I can imagine, at best, it was a pitched story that was rejected before any pre-production got underway. Plus, I don't buy that even the more troubled kids in that show would be that juvenile. But the thing that really cracks me up? Hey Arnold got away with saying "Crap" at least twice, so they did basically say and get away with the most mild of swearing, so even then I can't buy that this thing went into production at all.

The more interesting one that was on that list that did get fully animated-in my opinion- is the Tiny Toons one that actually went over underage drinking, the risk of drinking and driving and peer pressure. That one had very dark moments but considering it was meant to deter and drinking and driving is deadly, it was adequately appropriate.
@Mabus16

I think you're misinterpreting it. That episode was a parody of the sorts of "very special episodes" that were common on kids shows and sitcoms in that era. They weren't seriously discussing underage drinking or peer pressure, they were making fun of the hyperbolic tone of those sorts of stories by showing drinking a single beer having increasingly over the top consequences.

Hey, sorry to burst the bubble but the timeline for this episode makes no damn sense. I worked at Nickelodeon as a designer and there's no way a script makes it to completion without studio eyes. It roughly goes- Pitch > Execs > Script > Execs > Recording > Execs > Storyboard > Execs> Design > Execs > Paint > Execs > FX > Execs > Animation > Execs > Revisions > Execs > Final product I would get designs approved through my AD, the director and the showrunner, then it'd come back from an exec meeting with notes. They're infuriatingly hands on.

Okay, well this is strange. I vividly remember watching this episode airing as a kid. I was really confused about it back then too, especially Arnold swearing at the end before closing to credits. But, no one else remembers it now. I don't really believe in Mandela effects, yet I feel kinda creeped out all the same now.

This is the same show where Helga says Arnold makes her “girlhood tremble” so something banned from THAT show would be pretty bad. It sounds like an episode that they would’ve written and stotyboarded to blow steam but without the intention of actually getting made.

No offence, but this episode seems fake as hell. First, why would the people who made this show even consider making this episode at all. I haven't really watched the show, but from what I've seen, this seems very out of character for all the characters. Second, an episode like this would never pass Nick's censors. Yes many other kid shows had episodes that had a swearing plot, but those either used more tame words like stupid (the Caillou episode, Caillou's Crossword), made up words (the episode, The Big Blooper from the 2003 Berenstain Bears cartoon used the word "furball"), or keep the word abit ambiguous and use bleeping (the Arthur episode, Bleep, and the SpongeBob episode Sailor Mouth). If Nick saw that the team were making an episode like this, they'll most defiantly stop production on this episode all together. And third, this just screams "edgy creepypasta". It has all the cliches, lost episode, characters doing stuff you'll never expect them to do, only aired once., ect. Plus, that source, "my ass", it just seems like the person who made the article was trolling. Also, using TheGamer as a source, really.

Its possible they may have confused it with the sailor mouth spongebob episode combined with another episode called the beeper queen because both shows were in rotation on nick at the time. Or it couldjust be some mandella effect thing as the only lost episodes of ha i remember is the pilot that aired before harriet the spy in theatres and the original version of the jungle movie(the version that was made later on was a new project started from scratch and is more close to a remake then continuing where they left off)

Actually the episodes that "article" is referring to isnt from Hey Arnold at all. The article is a disjointed mess that references several different banned episodes from various shows. And there's a show with the fire-wielding depiction of "the prophet of Islam" that shows up in exactly 3 episodes that are no longer aired. And that show is South Park.

I don't believe for one second that this episode ever existed. Let's break it down Agatha Christie style: 1) They would have had to have written a script, and then get it approved by the network before even starting production. 2) They would have had to have gotten the voice actors, most of them children, into the studio for a voice over session. 3) They would have actually had to have animated this episode, warts and all. There's no way a single one of those would have gotten past the network. Even if this was some bizarre off the record episode that the producers payed for with their own money, somebody would have found about at it, and there would be lawsuits everywhere.

As a diehard HA! fan, I'm calling bull on this. The reason you could get away with a swearing episode where the characters actually swear is because the characters are generally voiced acted by adults. Nickelodeon would have a field day if they found out kids were cussing up a storm, even if it would be eventually bleeped out. Also, heard a lot of Craig Bartlett interviews and never once heard him mention a banned episode.

okay so it’s kinda funny that, that weird bot-written article mentions Dexters Lab’s rude removal, cause I was gonna say that while I don’t think this episode of Hey Arnold is real... Dexter’s Lab’s rude removal existed. It could entirely be possible the episode, maybe, wasn’t made as a broadcast episode but instead one that recycles a ton of footage and was made as sort of a joke thing to show at a company party or something. The thing that makes me think that is I vaguely remember them lining up for the nurse’s office for an episode but I couldn’t tell you which, and the hijacking of the radio stations as mentioned in the comet episode. There was also the recent-ish drama of the funimation voice actors for Dragonball swearing up a storm while they warmed up, so.... If this does exist, I’m guessing it was the editing team and the voice actors having fun which was shown at a film festival in 2003 similar to the Rude removal episode being shown at ComicCon before being put online. I don’t think it exists as a broadcast episode - but maybe just a messing around thing? Sure. Or I could be misremembering everything. Also I think Arnold’s line at the end of the episode was supposed to be “what the f**k have I gotten myself into?”
