No 1: yes, you absoutely said Katarzyna's name right. Like, 100% perfect, great accent and stress. I am proud of you, I'm sure Katarzyna is too and you should be as well. No 2: watching this video right after coming back from a Winter ILD meetup I organised, I wholeheartedly feel you on the call to support local events. I'm not sure whether the same applies to Canada/USA/North America in general, but in the UK I've found that while the majority of people are very eager to take advantage of all the lolita event opportunities we have (from bigger meetups within our community through brand tea parties in London to international event just a short plane trip away in Europe), the minority who grumbles does so very loudly (and sometimes passive-aggressively). Truth is, organising even a bigger meetup is a lot of work, not even from the simple organising point of view, but because people can be unpredictable. Sometimes you put your heart and soul (on top of time, energy and potentially money) into a meetup you think people will love and it just doesn't get the response you expected (for a variety of reasons, some internal and some external). And sometimes you put it out there and the event exceeds your expectations of demand (again, for a host of reasons). Now multiply that from a scale of 10-15 people to a scale of 60-100+, which is what these events are running at. So when you do get a chance, appreciate it as much as you can. Saying thank you to the hosts is basic politeness, reading all the info on the page before asking a question can mean that you aren't adding to the organiser's stress or to-do list and encouraging your friends to go if you can't might mean that the event can still go ahead if a certain minimum is required. All of these are free to do, yet make a massive difference. So Happy Winter ILD to you, whatever you were doing, and here's to more wonderful lolita events for all to enjoy in 2020!

I definitely understand what you're saying about meetups and I'm glad you agree. I really wanted to make a call to action because I gave up on hosting meetups years ago after too many failed attempt. There's Ojou (not sure if I spelled that right) or "boystyle" fashion which draws from the same eras and aesthetics but doesnt feature dresses/skirts, but is largely considered a style of lolita or at least very related to lolita. And ofc there are men who wear other substyles- anyone can rock lolita JSKs and OPs (dresses)!
