Low buy update + Evermore London candles

What did I buy in February? Am I leaning into another obsession to compensate for my makeup low buy? What is the reason behind my desire to chase pretty items? These are a few of the questions I try to answer in this chatty GRWM video.
Inspired by Ines' makeup looks on The Perfect Match on Netflix, I also attempt a quintessentially French, effortlessly messy smoky eye.

Shopping is so nice to do. It is an escape for sure. some shops make you forget your stresses and invite you in like you are meant to be there. Let me know when you find out how to conquer it as a happy place. I used to do this all the time, to escape my stressed reality as well. Now I Netflix...or eat. Either aren't better. Great makeup look, suits you. I hope you find that perfect scent you are after.

It is such an escape, and such a pleasurable and exciting one at that. You're right -- some shops are so good at making you feel a connection or like you belong there. It really is a whole experience. I hope I can eventually treat shopping as a fun activity to do once in a while rather than as an escape as it can be quite addictive for me. Netflix and eating... oh, I definitely do those things as well! Trashy reality TV is an absolute necessity for me, preferably while I'm eating something carby. ;)

You are definitely not talking to the void. Here I am.... all the way from the other side of the pond. I SEE you and I GET you 100%. I am from South America and moved to the US after I got married. Makeup is my therapy and my therapist. When I miss home, when I am lonely or sad or happy... make up is there for me. a lot of times it is the only thing that I truly enjoy doing. Thanks for sharing your videos (I wish I was brave enough to make one) and also thank you for your authenticity. Good luck on the low-buy. Keep it up! 💪

"All the shiny trinkets"...hunny I know exactly how you feel!! I have felt this way for a very long time...with makeup & beauty products. I so felt you when you were at that department store!! At my favorite Nordstroms ya gotta walk thru designer handbags & shoes to get to the beauty counters!! All the shiny try to get me every single time!! 🤣💖 I was tempted to get Red Ballerina too but by the time I decided to get it, it was sold out online. I'm glad now and focused on using what I have. The only thing I've purchased this month is mascara which really needed replacing. I've also been using eyeshadow that I haven't used in quite a while from my Natasha Denona palettes. Your eye look here was very pretty & love that foundation on you!! Flawless!! 🥰❤️

It's so nice to know that other people can relate to the very strong urge to give in to all the new and shiny things! I had a very strange mix of excitement and pre-emptive guilt when in that department store! I was relieved that Red Ballerina didn't live up to the fantasy I had of it, at least on my very small hand swatch. 😂 At my Nordstrom, I also have to walk through the shoes and handbags section to get to the beauty counters. They know how to get us! I swear they always have some sort of promotion on as well. So happy to hear you're focusing on using what you have as well! Did you purchase the Benefit They're Real mascara again (I think that's the one you said you really like)? I've been dipping more into eyeshadows I haven't used in a while too! I've been loving Golden Stars by Guerlain especially. 🥰

​@@bornblushing yes I did buy the Benefit. Sephora had a promo if you bought one you get one for 50% off. Then when I went to put them in my makeup drawer I discovered I had an unopened one in the back!! But it's all good...they only start to dry out when opened 😉

Oooo that foundation DOES go on nicely. Yeah I don't like too much foundation on my nose either. "I was feeling in a very spendy mood" 😆I have been there more times then I care to remember. Yes I know what you mean. I like to be left alone too when shopping. But I use to work in retail and they are trained to do this and are expected to so do this for the exact reason you mentioned--you feel obligated to buy something and people often do so. Ah the candles sound soooo dreamy. the blush is gorge! And loving the Sisley setting powder. I like the smoky gray on the outer ends. I like cooking too. Oh yeah FOMO and over consumption can be stressful. Loved this makeup tutorial and discussion. 👍 And new subbie from across the pond, lets connect here and keep up the fun and engaging content! 😍☺🥰

Good job avoiding temptation! It’s not easy, but it feels so good if we can just stay strong. At least for me, it’s become much easier for me to avoid temptation since my no-buy. But I’m sure that if I let myself go wild I’d lose my discipline pretty quickly. You had the right idea when you simply didn’t go to the Hermes counter. I could really relate to what you said when you sometimes feel almost obligated to purchase something when a salesperson spends so much time helping you. Online shopping is helpful that way… but SO dangerous in others. ;-) I’ve also really been falling in lurv with fragrances lately, making my way through all my tiny little samples. Luckily I have so many testers to work through that it’s keeping me busy enough to avoid purchasing anything. As a side note: the sleeves on that cardigan are beautiful - as was your makeup look.

You're so right! It feels somewhat impossible in the moment, yet the relief afterwards is very rewarding. I can just imagine how well you can flex those muscles of restraint since your no-buy. I'm hoping my low-buy will implement similar results. Yes! Those salespeople are very good at their jobs, but online shopping is also so dangerous since I am unsupervised! Tiny fragrance samples are amazing for keeping your "shopping appetite" satiated. Do you have any favourites out of the ones you've tried? Thank you! It made me chuckle that you noticed as I bought that cardigan purely for its sleeves. ;)

@@bornblushing My mail person really helps me avoid purchasing stuff online - you would not BELIEVE how judgmentally they look at me! And I haven't even been "fun" shopping online. Just boring stuff like refilling my vitamins. So I guess my tip is: make sure your mail delivery people are super judgemental. As for fragrances, I've been really enjoying Blanche Bête from Liquides Imaginaires. It's a sweet, creamy fragrance that fades into something floral. If there is one fragrance that's really tempting me right now, it's that one. Luckily I still have half of the sample left. Haha! Great minds think alike - at least when it comes to sleeves. ;-)

Ugh, these past couple of months I've truly been worse of a shopaholic than I usually am 😅, the worse thing is that it isn't even just makeup, it's skincare, clothes, perfumes, books, movies... basically everything haha. I also was so tempted by Red Ballerina, to be honest mostly because of the name even though it's actually named after an orchid and not really ballet-inspired (I adore ballet), but I'm trying to avoid going to any Guerlain counter because I'm sure I'll walk out with the lipstick and the eyeshadow palette and I'm more intrigued by the summer one they're releasing. Congratulations on resisting the temptations, I definitely need to be more like you! I was wondering which lipstick are you wearing in the Holt Renfrew clip it looks beautiful and so stunning on you! Your candle also looks amazing, and the scent sounds so delicious, I really want to get a Fornasetti candle one day because they have the most beautiful packaging I've wanted one for sooo long, but I also recently discovered the brand Vyrao and the candles and perfumes look incredible too. Hi Natalia! Oh, I hear you. Just because I haven't purchased as much as usual, I am not finding that my shopping brain has been switched off at all. I keep bouncing from one obsession to another. It's very annoying! I can't help myself. Red Ballerina is SUCH a seductive name! I think it sucked in many of us. In the Holt Renfrew clip, I'm wearing the Armani Lip Power in 202! It's such a nice shade for work, and I find it lasts so well! I have been loving my Evermore London candles! My favourite scent of them so far is Moon. I keep in it my bedroom, and I can smell it even when it isn't lit. You and I have such similar taste! I also came across Vyrao when I was browsing candles and was seduced by their packaging and scents. Fornasetti candles are simply pieces of art, aren't they? Soooo dreamy. Sigh. I have to stop myself from browsing and looking at all the new collections because as you say you just keep bouncing from one obsession to another, and I'm the kind of person who really gets obsessed, I still think about things I regret not buying from almost 10 years ago, an antique Art Nouveau looking Baccarat flower vase, a beautiful Assouline Ballets Russes book which is now out of print... again the fantasy, I could picture them together on a beautiful table at an apartment I didn't even have 😭haha, I just get so obsessed by beautiful high-quality things😅. Oh, I just got my first Armani Lip Power in 104 a few days ago because I saw it was used on Cate Blanchett and I love her, but I have really enjoyed the formula and the shade is truly a perfect nude for me, but next time I will check out the 202 shade because it does look beautiful, thank you! And yes I agree, we do have similar taste!🥰 I hope I can try the Evermore London candles soon, unfortunately in Mexico, we don't have access to so many brands, but hopefully, I can find a way to try them! The Armani Lip Power in 104 looks lovely! I really love 202 as a shade for work. I also have 405, which is a burnt orange colour as well as 301 and 302. It's such a beautiful formula! I purchased my Evermore London Candles from SSense. Does SSense ship to Mexico? "Red Ballerina"! 💄🩰❤Perfect shade names are enough to get me sometimes! lol great job staying strong. I'm on a low buy too - aiming for no buy as much as possible but the Valentines day items really tempted me because I do love everything hearts, pink and red! I'm most tempted by items that could be limited edition because once they're gone they're kind of gone. I love exercising my low-buy muscles tho because they do get stronger the more I resist. And I find those few and far between purchases are so much more fun because they're less excessive, more justified and less guilt-ridden. I'm determined to master the messy smokey eye for myself once and for all lol your smokey eye looked amazing! maybe we start small and go darker and darker until we master it. I found myself drawn to fragrances as I started my low buy last year as well. I'm completely with you. I'm after contentment and wanting to hop off the endless wheel of want. I'm on a journey towards living in the present again, enjoying real life and real hobbies and not the things that don't truly satisfy. I do plan to enjoy shopping and beautiful things for the rest of my life, but without those things dictating my dopamine highs and lows. Oh you're so right - a good name sucks me in as well! And I totally relate to what you're saying about strengthening your low buy muscles. I just need to make sure I don't jump to another obsession to replace an old one. Moderation is my goal and you put it perfectly: to own our things rather than them owning us! Escaping the endless wheel of wanting is really quite tough, and I hope I can develop better habits through the year. We will get that smoky eye down eventually!
