@@MI-tj1dv High carb low fat. Eatin candy all day, 12 cups of greek yogurt 2 cups every couple of hours at this point to maximize muscle synthesis or some shit. Rest is legit candy and fruit. I'm active as fuck. Work hardest at my job. I eat less than 10g of fat a day. Don't know how this shit works cause I'm downin 3k-4k calories a day, it just does man. I supplement like 2 of those big ass omega 3 pills. Rest of the fat is from the "fat free"(impossible for dairy to truly be fat free) yogurt and small build up from all the fruit and candy and shit. People gonna call bullshit, people gonna say it don't work, but at the end of the day it ain't me that's scratching my head trying to figure out how to stay lean and feel awesome as fuck.

The point you made about mindset can’t be emphasized enough. When cutting, I prefer to eat low-fat, high-carb, BUT it isn’t because I think “dietary fat is bad and makes you fat!” It’s because, “This feels like the least restrictive way for me to be in a deficit, since most foods I enjoy tend to be higher-carb and lower-fat anyways and my training benefits from carbs.” And when I implement refeeds, diet breaks, or move into a maintenance/bulk phase to have more calories, I include some more fatty stuff I might have been craving in moderation. When I get a craving, I also have found success by not saying, “I CAN’T have this food, it is BAD.” But instead saying, “I don’t want this food now because it doesn’t align with my goals, so I’m CHOOSING not to eat it. However, this isn’t forever, and I can include this food in the future in moderation.”

Thank you for the information. I have felt like such a failure because doing keto/carnivore and ADF and other extreme forms of IF didn’t work for me because of my need to binge on foods I wasn’t allowed to have. Now it all makes sense and I understand that I am not a failure. Thank you Layne. You are healing my diet brain and helping me conquer this problem once and for all! ❤

I have a diagnosed Binge Eating Disorder of which I had a year of therapy. I have now (after considered "rehabilitated") done ADF for 8 months for weightloss but while doing it so I have consistently and completely rejected EVERYTHING suggesting I have to restrict what I eat. I always relied on scientific peer reviewed studies only and have no problems throwing out some of the most prominent influencers for ADF. I completely rejected the concept of "clean fasting" as orthorexia nonsense. I eat carbs in moderation but I still eat them. I haven't excluded anything, instead I focused on making sure I add good stuff. I even have an occasional wine. I eat on a normal eat day what my TDEE will be on my target weight, so that once I switch to maintenance I know how much to eat every day and what to eat and feel satiated and happy. And when I am served I eat what everybody else is eating and when a special day happen on a fast day I just push the fast day to the day after.

Layne, I cannot thank you enough for shining a light on eating disorders. This study bears witness to the struggle of so many. Binge eating is a nightmare, primarily initiated by dietary restrictions and starvation mode existence. Until you listen to your body, and make sensible nutrition choices, binge eating will happen. Thank you also for dispelling so many insane fear, mongering diet myths permeating the Internet from “expert” influencers.

I can confirm this is 100% true for me. I was on IF for about 6 months and then decided to add keto. To cut a long story short, I ended up with BED. I am now trying to get back to normal eating. After that, I will tackle the weight loss aspect. If only I knew what I was getting into when I started keto. The IF itself was fine, the problem was the carb restriction.

Same here. I got lured by the exremists who promised that carbs were the source of all health problems, cutting them out would produce effortless weight loss etc. When that didn't work I found carnivore which was even worse. Couldn't actually stick to either but still ended up with a laundry list of foods which were 'bad' and felt guilty about almost everything I ate. Thankfully once it started I caught the bingeing quite early, and I also found 'the binge eating therapist' on YT who was absolutely amazing for helping me to understand what was going on. It took looking back to how I was pre-diets to realise that I was healthier when I wasn't trying so hard to be 'healthy'! Now I have a diet which includes everything and I feel much more balanced.

@@Teddy-jf5xg I agree. I use the term "mom and pop" because that is what they usually are. They are sick, out of shape people that never workout looking for the magic solution. Those type of people are the overwhelming majority of the low carb charlatans youtube channels audience. Often even though they have lost some weight, they still are pretty plump and soft despite the fact that they should be shredded with their logic.

I think the authors of the study have it backwards. It's not low carb and fasting that cause these eating disorders, it's that people with eating disorders, orthorexia and body dysmorphia are disproportionately attracted to intermittent fasting and low carb. We see the same thing among vegans. People who treat eating disorders professionally will tell you that the vast majority will be women and vegans are vastly overrepresented in their clients. Diet tribes allow people who are already prone to eating disorders, orthorexia and body dysmorphia to express those tendencies without feeling like a freak. It's a way to disguise your eating disorder as a healthy lifestyle. I've been low carb/keto for 7 years. It works really well for me as I moved into my 50s. Unlimited stamina, no longer feeling hangry, really even energy levels. But I'm also heavily involved in several Facebook groups devoted to this subject, and I see the anxiety and the OCD tendencies expressed all the time. But it's not the diet that's causing the problem. Anxious people with OCD and some body dysmorphia are an absolute perfect fit for a lifestyle built around restriction. So they're drawn to it. And then when they lock into the community of like-minded people, it enhances those tendencies.

Wow! This hit home with me and makes me feel so good about myself. Six years ago, I weighed 230 pounds. I quit drinking alcohol and went on a super-low carb diet. I lost some weight but, never hit my goal of 160 pounds or slightly lower. My wife is a baker and we always have some treat around the house. I was driving myself insane trying to stick to what “I was told” I “needed” to do to meet my goal. This life was making me unhappy and putting a lot of mental stress on me. I am, for the most part an 18-6 I.F. Eater. Sometimes that schedule doesn’t work out. I quit beating myself up over that FACT. I really began watching my caloric intake. When I did consume baked goods or pretzels, etcetera, I don’t binge on said foods. My life changed for the better. I am now going on eight-months of maintaining 159 pounds and weigh myself twice a week at the same time on those given days. This has both simplified my life and taken any guilt out of the equation. The best part of this whole scenario is that when people ask me, “what do you eat to stay so lean”, I can answer, “anything I want to”. I will add that I “exercise” on average, two-hours a day. (Resistance train and hike or bicycle six-days a week) I am happy, not obsessed with any part of my routine and am off the “cocktail” of statins and blood pressure meds. BTW, I will be 61 years-old next month. I have really never felt better, both physically and mentally. Thanks so much for this video!

My cycling coach convinced me to do Keto with the idea of being a fat adapted endurance athlete. It destroyed my gut, caused me to fall into a depressive state and ultimately caused me to leave bike racing on the local level because I was unable to train well enough to compete with my teammates. I will NEVER advise either of these diet methods for anyone. Period. I should have known better. The best day I had that year was after I ate oats in a moment of clarity and could magically climb hills again.

It looks like this study was designed to put down LC and IF. It must be compared to other diets. It's no surprise that people on ANY diet based on restrictions could give up and binge. And actually most of the 'dieters' do. But if there was an individual flexible approach according to a person's eating behavior and habits, then we could see much more success rate. That's how nutritionists and dietitians work 1 on 1 and get their results. One diet can't fit all. Anyway, thank you for this video. All these videos based on studies are so fun to watch!

That said I also really appreciate that, although I understand men are under body image pressures, women have been obsessively targeted their entire lives and the impacts show heavily in nearly every woman in our society. What great advice. I experienced the same bing eating yoyo diet on low carb as well. But once I recognized the problem rather than trying keep trying to fight it I embraced it. What I do now is low carb for 2 weeks then I switch to a low fat approach. I maintain the same calorie deficit. And with a window of only 2 weeks by the time I get bored or start getting cravings its time to switch it up. SO it keeps me focused and at the same time I know there is a change of diet just around the corner. What I do is, keep the same protein intake. I just swap the fat and carb intake. Works for me and prevents bing eating.

Awesome video and content. In a time when many are feeling stress and anxiety or social pressures, it’s an imperative to have sound advice. The problem with mental illness is it’s something we can not objectively measure. So it’s so easy to push under a cover or miss altogether. One fundamental truth that went without being said, you can gain or lose weight anyway you want. Playing with hormones to lose weight means you are influencing hormones in unintended ways and therefore you have unintended consequences. Find what works for you. You are worth everything because you are you, not because of your weight or body shape.

Most people do the low carb or IF incorrectly which leads to binges. What causes carb or sugar binges is low potassium levels and most people when low carb or IF don't eat the required 7 to 10 cups of vegetables a day to maintain adequate levels of K. Secondly bing eating is a result of low salt levels which will cause you binge on junk food as the body is craving the salt it needs to function properly. Thirdly they don't pair IF with Keto. Since the goal of fasting is losing fat, it needs to be paired with Keto diet. The Keto diet will help transition the body from utilizing carbs to fats as primary fuel. I'd recommend Dr. Berg or Dr. Jason Fung, they are experts on fasting and what to do and not to do on the diet.

Started making my own ice cream at the same time which hasn't helped. Went from 5'11 135 to 180, now I'm trying to gently get back down to a healthy middle range. Fasting can be a dark road if you're a perfectionist/obsessive as I am.

@Guy Whose opinions will offend you I didn’t say it doesn’t work. Worked very well I lost a ton of weight and my insulin sensitivity was very high. All I said was be careful with it as it can lead to some unhealthy tendencies for certain types of people.

Mo man should be 5'11" and 135lbs. No woman should be 7-9% BF. Goodness.

if you really do IF correctly , there is no need for binging or cheat meals.. those who still binge or having cheat days are doing IF wrong. Been doing IF / ADF for 2 years and there is never a need to binge or cheat or overeat.

This is a real thing! I always wondered why every single time I told myself I am going to commit to a certain type of diet or restrict certain types of foods why I would start to crave them and immediately proceed to binge even if I hadn't wanted those "restricted" foods in weeks. I've learned for me I cannot say a food is off limits or I will definitely proceed to overeat it. All foods in moderation and typically this works. If I want a cookie I can eat one without feeling the need to eat the whole sleeve or box of them simply because I allowed myself to have what I felt like.

this is video literally described my eating habits..i started with keto and lost a lot of weight and then i was restricting carbs even when i stopped keto..as a result i started binging on bread and biscuits like crazy and gained a lot of weight..do what works for you and never deny yourself foods you really like, rather find healthier but still tasty alternatives.

When a broken education system that produces non-critical thinkers with no nutrition/health knowledge meets a highly unregulated industry, the result is chaos. No light at the end of the tunnel :( Thanks for the awesome videos.

The ironic thing is that many of these type of dieters think they are the critical thinkers.😑

Thank you for this video. I have ED and wanted to do intermittent fasting but however, it did not work for me as i was doing the low carb. My ED is somewhat in control and I have been practising mindfull eating. I love my carbs the good ones and this video has helped me into doing IF again but on a healthy eating lifestyle.

Great video. Most effective for me was using the carbon diet app to eat in a small caloric deficit eating whatever I want (kind of, of course you have to be mindful of high-caloric foods). And I’ve tried just about everything, and in my youth used to binge a lot. Even in maintenance now I find I rarely overeat and don’t even track (but I’m highly active which I think helps)

thanks man, really. im not positive i have an ED but i think im prone to developing one. i do have a habit of eating my feelings and binged a lot as a kid cause we were so poor. obese, diabetic, arthritic psoriasis on my knees and elbows... trying to educate myself about nutrition & health feels like a steep tightrope in a lot of ways, always felt cautious about keto and praise when i see lists of intense rules. i do think ill incorporate keto-like aspects & IF, but this vid helped me reframe my values.

It doesn't really surprise me about low carb dieting leading to worse eating attitudes. When I was a teenager and still living at home, my parents were both into the Atkins diet, and the number of times I can remember my dad making a disgusted remark about the serving size of pasta salad I'd taken or my mom constantly reporting her updated weight loss numbers... They're both heavier than ever now.

The funny thing is I wrote this down in my diary a few months back and for the last 4 years I’ve slipped in and out of this but keep repeating it and I lost 6lb over this summer then some idiot tried to ruin my diet by bringing a ton of chocolate in my house nearly every shopping trip and I slowly but sure kept eating the chocolate then guilt, restrict and repeat, I even experienced extreme hunger due to the insulin resistance and then boom I started to restrict carb and increase fat, and the last 7 days I have been binging every day. My body works best on low-moderate fat about 60g a day on 1700 ckals. But damn this I need to stick this reminders everywhere in my kitchen. That it’s high fat that causes BED and low carb. Thank you, your one of the very few KZbinrs that know this or mention it.
