11:05 - Install throttle body
- Next, throttle body with new gasket and all back in place
- Connect plug connection on coolant thermostat
12:58 - Replace coolant expansion tank
- Unlock locks
- Pull off expansion tank together with bracket upwards
- Until coolant hose below expansion tank is accessible
- Unlock and detach top coolant hose from expansion tank
- Unlock and detach bottom coolant hose
- Unlock and disconnect plug on coolant level switch and lift out expansion tank
- Last winter, a "Coolant level" warning appeared on the screen

My purpose is to encourage people to do things themselves!
Plus, this is a nice hobby for myself and at the same time I have the opportunity to save a lot of money by doing all the maintenance myself!
I’m not a professional with cars or motorcycles, I just want to learn how to do things myself.
If you do this service yourself, always check the correct instructions in the official service manuals. This is just my way of doing it!

I want to thank you for making these videos! Very usefull because I own a F20 118i that I maintain myself. I used this video to replace the aux belt, tensioner, friction wheel bearing, waterpump+wheel and thermostat within 2,5hrs without removing the DME holder. Keep up the good work!

So just wanted to ask if you would maybe know what it could be? Advice maybe where to look? Not mentioned here in england its cold right now and man it takes long for the car to warm up i am suspecting thermostat but also noticed that i lose coolant over time and im just looking for some advice, thank! If you did something with the cooling system, very highly likely you still got some air in it. I hd the same symptoms on one of these. Also look at ur coolant tank when cold and them when its hot. N see how much it rises up if at all it does. Do not open it yh, just look from the outside when its hot.

Great work man! I have a coolant leak on my f20 and was wondering if one of these parts you replaced could be the problem. In your experience could one of these parts be cause a leak?
@JaniVoutilainen
@JaniVoutilainen 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 😊 The leak in the coolant sensor behind the engine is apparently a type fault in this engine. It doesn’t leak in my car, so I didn’t go to replace it. It is in a relatively cramped place, so just for fun, don't bother to change it 👍.

I think I have a stuck open thermostat (N13, F30). I wonder if I could change it from underneath the car, without disassembling half the engine on top... This is so badly engineered.. On my older E39 (just on many other models) the thermostat was on top/front of the engine, very easy to replace.
@JaniVoutilainen

This is the procedure from BMW service manual. I'am not sure about replacing from underneath... Time consuming was dme holder. For this Job, you do not need take off the valve cover 👍

Did you already vent the system like in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aniYlJSmbrBpipo if there is air in the system, it may be that the heat will not come ...

I just replaced the coolant hose with a brand new original BMW hose. After topping up coolant and bleeding .... the connector to the bottom of the reservoir popped out after driving for around 20 mins. I clicked the hose back again .. topped up with coolant . bleed .. and the same thing happened. The connector popped out after driving around 20 mins. Any idea what might have gone wrong? Could it be bad bleeding process or is it because the reservoir bottom connector might be bad? Thanks.
